  1. This is getting ridiculous. After checking the 10 day forecast yet again, if things hold close to predicted, I'm ready to crown this as the worst March weatherwise I've ever experienced in my lifetime of living in this state. We haven't gotten an extreme snowfall or anything, but the temps have been double digits below normal for almost the entire month, and when it gets close to normal temps for a day or two, it rains. They are talking wind chills right around zero in the next few days. Seriously, enough already.
  2. Poor performance today. I'm going to prognosticate that they go as a five seed and play Wichita St. in the first round.
  3. Tomorrow wont matter. It has been said before the committee has their brackets done before the finale of the Big Ten tourney. Where we are now is where we will be If that's the case, I'd expect the Badgers to get a five seed. I don't see them getting a four seed, even though they should because they've handled all the high seeds from the Big 10 this year (except for MSU). I guess it depends how much stock they put on strength of schedule, as they really only have one bad loss this year.
  4. As much as I hate Larussa, he understood that you can bring young OF's up and get them at-bats in lots of different ways and situations, and the Brewers should consider trying this method with Davis. Absolutely. There should be no reason that Davis couldn't play RF either.
  5. With only two catchers and four outfield spots locked up, why wouldn't the Brewers bring this guy north? He's earned it, and I don't really see the need for them to stockpile mediocre infielders. I'd much rather have a bat like this off the bench than the dreck they have had for PH the past several years. I mean seriously, who is the primary RH bat off the bench at this point (without burning a C), Bianchi?
  6. Win tomorrow, and they probably get a four seed vs. the five seed they look to be locked into right now.
  7. Well, if the Brewers are going to keep a gazillion pitchers in the pen again this season, Rogers had better be one. They always seem to have one too many guys in the bullpen who gets very little work. It would make sense to keep Rogers in that role where you could at least work with him and put him in early in some games for mop up duty. Probably not the best way for his development, but the Brewers have no other options (pun intended). Better that than let him walk to keep some guy who they could pluck later in the season from Nashville if necessary.
  8. I think we tend to overvalue our MiLB rank and file guys. You think? I honestly can't believe all the harping going on in the other thread about signing Gomez and 'blocking' Schaefer. Gomez was one of the best prospects in baseball a few years back and is what, 28? Does Schaefer have one elite skill? Not from what I can see.
  9. I don't see any problem with this deal whatsoever. Another year like last year, and he might double this deal on the FA market. Also, as others said, barring a catastrophic injury, Gomez will always have some value... as opposed to some middling pitcher who would command a similar deal, and could either get injured or pull a Suppan.
  10. I'm trying to figure out why Van Halen would play a festival in Oshkosh when they could probably still sell out almost any arena in the country... especially with no other US dates scheduled. Based on their history over the past few years, I certainly wouldn't buy a ticket to the festival unless it was refundable in the event VH cancels.
  11. I remember catching this story on ESPN, I have to give credit where credit is due, it was very well done. It makes my blood boil that his killer walked free. Bostock is largely forgotten, and that's too bad. One thing that I've never been able to figure out was how he became a free agent after only three seasons in the bigs. My guess is that the tightwad owner of the Twins must have failed to offer him a qualifying contract or something. Back then, guys could play without a contract (play out their option) for a season to get into the free agent draft, but I always thought that there were service time requirements.
  12. Jabbar seems to have mellowed with age, but he had difficulty relating to players even when he was one. He's openly campaigned for coaching gigs before, but never gotten serious consideration for whatever reason. I highly doubt that he will get an opportunity at his age.
  13. Frankly, I'm not against the use of PED's because I'm concerned about player health, I'm against it because I can't stand cheaters. There is no way in a million years that sports would ever allow PED use in this day and age. Look at the people crawling out of the woodwork to sue the NFL because they received a concussion. You'd have the same thing down the road with steroids, where the lawyers would tie every known malady to affect the elderly to them.
  14. I'm going to call [expletive deleted] on this. These guys aren't even tested during the off-season, are they? To me this seems like a guy who got a lucky scoop and is now trying to get some more attention for his blog.
  15. I think that Harris would get abused if he logged a lot of minutes at PF. He's giving up way too much height, and in a lot of cases athleticism. He's going to have to play SF, where he could probably be a passable defender. Most SF in the NBA don't play much defense anyway. I like his offensive game, but best case, he looks to be a spot shooting forward who might get you 15-17 points a game. I'm not saying that Harris doesn't have potential, but the way people are acting, the Bucks gave away a perennial all-star. I don't see it. Mind you, I could be completely wrong on this, he's still a kid and I don't think that any of us have seen him play enough to be sure. No matter what, he's going to need time to develop, and by that point he's going to be up for restricted free agency, meaning someone is likely to take a big gamble on him.
  16. The way that this winter has been, it's tough to blame them...
  17. Some are going way overboard about this Harris deal to the point where it's almost laughable. If you looked up "tweener" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Tobias. He may turn into a decent player down the road, but you'd have thought that the Bucks traded a future HOF or something with the way some are reacting... based on one big game against the Rockets of all people. Luc Richard was rumored to be part of that deal originally so if they got the Magic to take Harris instead it was a better deal if you ask me.
  18. If LA is willing to eat about $5 million of that salary, I'd have some interest- but not much. Otherwise pass.
  19. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that Mazeroski is in the HOF and Whitaker is off the ballot. I'd say that Whitaker is a better candidate than Alomar too. Frankly I'm not sure if any of these three should be in, but for Whitaker to be the one left out makes no sense.
  20. Unless it's just a negotiating strategy, the Cardinals seem like they are really insistent on not bringing Lohse back. It reenforces my belief that not only was he a bit of a fluke the last two years there but that perhaps they know something that other teams do not. I would stay far, far away if I was DM. The Cards were all set to bring him back in a short term deal until Lohse started saying how they ruined his life by offering him arbitration. He 'ruined' himself with his greed/listening to Boras. He knew the rules, and turned down the easy eight figures thinking that he could do much better. I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't be happy if he was forced to take a one year deal for far less than the qualifying offer. As for the Rangers, if they wouldn't surrender any decent prospects for Greinke, I highly doubt that they will surrender a first rounder to sign Lohse.
  21. I honestly can't believe that Marcum would just lie around watching Maury and eating Cheetos in an off season in which he's looking for employment. I don't believe that conditioning has much to do with arm issues anyway. I'd guess that most pitchers do cardiovascular training during the off-season, but I highly doubt most are hitting the weights. Frankly, I just think that Marcum's elbow is likely toast. He probably could have gotten Tommy John surgery last season if he wanted, but I bet that he held out due to his contract situation. Why else would the Brewers not show one iota of interest?
  22. I'm happy for Harris that he's lighting up the score sheets, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Look at Orlando's team, someone has to put up some stats. While I'm willing to admit this deal could very well blow up in the Bucks' faces, I'm not going to concede that until Harris can show he is a serviceable player for at least a season. At this point, the Bucks really need to focus on catching Boston for the 7 spot. Miami is really the only team that I give them no chance against. Barring a complete collapse they basically have the 8 seed locked up... but if they face the Heat, the best case scenario is probably one win.
  23. Too early to make a fair evaluation, but so far, it's not looking good.
  24. Good to hear that he's recovering. He's one of those guys who I remember more than his play warranted... I would have thought that he was around for more than part of a year. That '96 team did have a very good offense. In particular, Vaughn was on a tear before he was traded. Once McDonald was hurt, they had absolutely no pitching however.
  25. There is a reason that everyone is staying away from Lohse...well, a few.
