  1. Yeah, that'd be pretty good. It would also cost everyone in the Rays' front office their jobs. If we could get Hellickson and one other "B" prospect I'd be on it quickly. Nooooo way you get that kind of talent back. I really like the original one where you have Beckham in there too................lordy.
  2. They are cleaning up..........got a lot of the guys I was hoping for........Workman, Ranaudo, etc. I hate them.
  3. Yeah I read that too. It's always nice to read those letters when you're feeling down. Makes you feel a lot better about yourself. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. I wouldn't worry about Dillard becoming the next Balfour. Balfour's K-rates in AAA were absurd, he was more of a high-ceiling guy who just needed to put it together in the majors. Even as a reliever, Dillard has never been overpowering in AAA. Sure, he may be able to develop into a mediocre middle reliever, but the odds on Dillard striking out 82 in 58 innings are quite low. Estrada's AAA numbers are significantly more impressive than Dillard's, and he projects to be a much more valuable MLB player. Besides, seeing Estrada on the back of a jersey will help us to remember everybody's favorite slap-hitting catcher. I agree with this.......Dillard simply doesn't have the tools to become anything like Balfour. I'd say his ceiling is "decent 7th inning guy", which is no big loss if Estrada becomes a 4th type starter (longshot admittedly). I like the move even though I think it's largely irrelevant.
  5. I don't understand how anyone could be against this move. The only downside, as has been mentioned, is that Edmonds is kind of a turd. Baseball-wise though, this has a chance of really paying off. I've seen him described as "done" and his bat "stinking" in 2008. Now, he may be done, but he crushed rhp in 2008 to the tune of a ~.925 OPS. That is precisely what this team needs. And if he is done, who cares? He doesn't cost anything. And to the poster who's worried about ST at bats, if that's an issue for you, I don't know what to tell you. As far as what this means, I think this relates much more to Hart than it does to Gomez or Gerut. I don't see Edmonds playing 100 innings in CF. I think it means Hart's butt will be on the bench vs a lot of rhp, which I am very much in favor of. I see this as the perfect final move before ST. Great job, Doug!
  6. Actually the Giants are not willing to part with Bumgarner at all. It would take a lot more than Gamel to bring back Bumgarner probably something around Lawrie and Gamel plus our best pitching prospect to get Bumgarner. The Giants really do overvalue their pitching prospects. For example last year the Giants wanted both Hart and Hardy and in return the Brewers would have gotten Sanchez who IMHO is no better than Parra (potential wise). I don't think the Giants will be looking to part with Bumgarner anytime soon. While I generally agree that Bumgarner is a pipe dream of the highest order, the Giants did trade Tim Alderson for Freddy Sanchez, which still boggles my mind. I know Bumgarner is a tier or two above Alderson, but stranger things have happened. Having said that, I think it would take Lawrie, Gamel and more, as you stated. And I'm not sure that would do it. I think Braun for Bumgarner is closer than Gamel.
  7. I really don't know what to make of this statement. I guess I just disagree with it outright.I don't understand either. Not necessarily disagreeing, I just don't get it. When Harden goes down, you have to replace him with Narveson or whomever. I imagine the replacement's era has to be factored into Harden's value (or lack thereof).
  8. Yeah, I'm super-glad Harden is off the market. He was the player I least wanted to see the Brewers sign. Completely unreliable. I can only imagine the kvetching that would've gone on with him after what Sheets caused on this board. Yes, he could be spectacular. More likely, the Rangers owner should've lit 7.5 million dollars on fire just to see what it was like. We'll probably be able to sign him next year for half that when he makes 12-15 starts in 2010.
  9. Yeah, I don't get the comparison at all. The k/9 and bb/9 numbers are quite different, and to me those are two of the most important numbers for a pitcher. I wouldn't be super-thrilled with this signing, but it wouldn't ruin my Christmas like Suppan did.
  10. Yeah, I don't see any way Florida could've passed on that deal. Sounds like BS to me. That's two of the top 20 prospects in baseball.
  11. I've endorsed this plan since last offseason. This team needs to inject high-upside low-cost pitching, and the only way to do that is to trade Fielder. It'll be painful, but the thought of resigning him is pie in the sky. It's not going to happen. The Hardy for Arietta part is a pipe dream though. No way they get Arietta by himself for JJ imo. I like the thought process though.
  12. Ditto. Harang for Hall would've worked for me. Money's about the same, maybe we would've had to throw in a minor leaguer, but given the Rolen trade, I'd think we could've swindled the Reds.
  13. I think Theo would've had to have hit his head. That would be a top, top shelf offer, and yes, Melvin would have to accept before Theo came to his senses. And the Hardy/Reddick part would be just fine with me too. The Brewers would have a chance to have a great pitching staff by 2011 and replace Prince and JJ with Lars and Escobar. That team would be really cheap too and in good shape to extend Yo. Sign me up for that one in a heartbeat, of course Theo's not stupid, unfortunately.
  14. I would offer Salome, Gamel and Odorizzi/Frederickson for Halladay and Rolen and see what they say. They might turn it down, but that's a serious offer. Salome isn't likely to be a catcher, but could be a heck of a DH with 20 starts at catcher. Gamel is obviously quite valuable and you include a high upside arm. I would switch Gamel with Escobar if that's what they wanted. The Brewers actually match up extremely well with Toronto, who are starved for left-side-of-the-infield prospects. And Halladay immediately becomes THE best pitcher in the NL (he's already the best in the game). What he's done in that division is sick.
  15. I would have zero problem with Scheppers. He could move very quickly.
  16. Crap. Rockies grab Wheeler. I'm so glad that they got that pick for the immortal Brian Fuentes and the Brewers get screwed out of a first. OK, I'm done whining.
  17. Gotta love it. Hope he turns out as good as Ben Christenson.
  18. I actually think they'll take Davidson if available. They like to take the guy who's the best at something, and Davidson's power potential is off the charts. It's the reasoning that they used with LaPorta, and I believe they'll do it again. Other than that, I have no idea, but I'd like to see at least 2 more pitchers by pick #75. Kyle Heckathorn would be pretty cool with me in that category, although I'd be afraid he'd end up a reliever.
  19. I don't know nearly as much as some, but I was praying for Arnett, and am now praying for Davidson or Tim Wheeler (with a preference for Wheeler). Here's hopin'.
  20. I'd have taken Crow in a heartbeat over Leake.
  21. Was hoping Leake would last to Cleveland................hoping for Arnett. Oh well. Law said something to the effect that "the Brewers talked to the agent of a player that may slide due to signability reasons, but were rebuffed". Anyone have any idea who that might've been?
  22. While true, this is akin to being the world's tallest midget.
  23. http://pub.tv2.no/multimedia/na/archive/00234/Barry_Bonds_234178c.jpgSadly, that was the exact photo that came to mind when I read TBadder's quote. Now THAT is disturbing.
  24. Valpo: Not sure if that was supposed to be funny, but it was. A very small art of me agrees with every word of it though.
