  1. nice that CC likes Milwaukee and all, but if he were to actually take a pay cut to stick with a team he likes, i'd only assume that team would be Cleveland, and they've already offered him $18.
  2. i'm not a giant fan of Superfeet because the heel is still pretty hard, but i really like SofSole. I had a really bad right foot problem when i was hiking and used those, plus i taped in an arch support to raise that and it helped. basically it was a shift of weight when the foot landed. [braun Grand Slam!!!!!!!] sorry, not related, but that was awesome. if you don't have the insurance to pay for the expensive stuff, the cheaper solutions likely won't work as well, but they at least couldn't hurt to try first. Ibuprofen's great if it's a once in a while thing, you just shouldn't be taking that stuff on a regular, long-term basis. and agree with Jim's suggestion of relacing your shoes. I've done it and haven't noticed the difference, but I've heard several people before suggesting the same thing.
  3. the career i'm studying for has the option to move anywhere in the world. once i thought it would be a fun option. now i'm wondering if it might almost become necessary just to find a job opening. i'm really getting pretty nervous about what the state of things might be like a couple years from now.
  4. Mota just punched my heart.
  5. if Madison's your first choice yet you don't get in, don't worry about it. do fine your freshman year and the transfer process is supposed to be pretty smooth. they just want to know that you won't be one who flunks out. a big mistake i made in college was thinking i had to decide on a major when i first got there, and that was a waste of about 60 credits.
  6. we don't really know that we have the financial resources to keep Hardy. who knows if we trade for or sign a high-dollar player in the offseason. i don't really think it's a bad idea to trade JJ at all. he's probably at peak value right now. yeah, Escobar likely won't come out of the gates and hit as well as JJ, but we'll probably have to do a lot of trading to fill some holes in the offseason, and at least JJ is somewhat replaceable. we won't lose a beat defensively at SS, but we certainly can't say that about moving Gamel to LF if Hart is gone. i'm pretty much in the Beane mold that you trade a player when a solid minor-leager is ready to come up, and we have that situation here. if Escobar isn't temporarily played at 2B, then it seems clear to me that trading Hardy would be a good move.
  7. i had to walk away from the game with the 5-2 lead. I get back tonight and before I read the box score, think "well, lets see how the Brewers blew it today." ugh.
  8. i've never questioned Sheets' desire to pitch in any year or his dedication. to question it or say he doesn't have the desire i think is in large part to not understand the challenges and the precision it takes to be a quality pitcher. plus it puts him in a terrible spot, that either he sits out a few starts and gets questioned, or he tries to play through it and gets shelled.
  9. any fans still on the fence about resigning Sheets, kindly step down.
  10. it didn't work! put it back up! no, wait, take it down. no, put it up....
  11. i cashed out a third of my mutual funds three days ago. phew, just missed a bullet. although what's this "retirement" you speak of?
  12. no doubt JZ has aspirations for a GM spot, but i'd hesitate to start letting people go when it's based on a fear of somebody lower leaving. I wonder if Melvin's future will resemble Dean Taylor's. DT was great at drafting and finding small-time players, but didn't come through when it came to big-name players. The Hammonds mistake was certainly more sizable than the Gagne one, though.
  13. i still think with Yost's rah-rah attitude, he was the perfect manager to step in and take over a team that had been miserable for so long. it's just been a while since that attitude, i think his greatest strength, has been what's needed for this club. that he was always so overly-positive or seemingly ignorant of poor play to the media i actually think was good. no doubt he was far different inside the clubhouse, but there's rarely reason to call out a player in front of the media. i don't understand, though, how Sveum's apparent lack of ability to send or stop runners to home translates to his managerial prowess.
  14. Your comment on feeling down keeping you from exercising made me think of a quote from Dan Millman, that in my experience, is certainly true. I read it that without releasing energy through exercise or some other positive way, it just starts to fuel negative emotions. so it's some of that "life energy" that needs to come out through exercise to help maintain a positive mindset. Life energy must flow somewhere. Where internal obstructions lie, the energy burns, and when it builds up beyond what an individual body/mind can tolerate, it explodes. Anger grows into rage, sorrow turns into despair, concern becomes obsession, and physical aches become agony. So energy also can be a curse. Like a river, it can bring life, but untamed, it can unleash a raging flood of destruction.
  15. i just got addicted to that show on Hulu and watched them all straight through. funny show. just went to see the Coen brothers movie Burn After Reading. it had its good moments, but I was left thinking "what was the point of that?" i'll second the comment about Everybody Loves Earl show. it was good the first season, but now it's just a string of "look who's guest-starring!" shows.
  16. funny, actually the complete opposite for me. it's no problem for me to fold for 45 minutes straight in live games, but in my limited experience online, if another player takes 10 seconds to decide, i'm bored to death.live games there's so much more opportunity (for me, at least) to study other players' habits, and just joking around with other players out of the hand makes it fun. and there's just something that makes you feel so incredibly good to pull a heavy stack of high-value chips toward you when you win a big pot. or knocking a guy out of a tournament and getting to see them slowly stand up and walk away--that feels great. i've been doing that free bar-league poker once a week. i'm a little concerned that i might subconsciously learn some bad habits that i take to the casino with me, because the level of play at the free bar-league game is laughably bad.
  17. in two Big Macs: 1,080 calories, 90% DV fat, 102% saturated fat and 86% sodium intake. and that assumes he rarely gets the coke and fries like he says, not to mention whatever his third meal of the day is. maybe mcdonalds should pay him a salary and stipulate that he has to exercise every day, since a heart attack or whatever from him isn't exactly good advertising. subway does that with their spokesman. there's a stipulation in his contract that if he hits a certain weight again, he's dropped.
  18. i'm free to admit i'm a loser at online play. i'm good at the tournaments, but don't have the patience to stay off the cash tables. i've tried a $100 deposit two times and lost both. i just downloaded a free site again, but am debating uninstalling it because it doesn't help my play to compete against generally bad players, and i'm susceptible to depositing money. it's a little odd, though; i'm good at the live games, but it just doesn't translate to online play.
  19. Led Zeppelin IV
  20. losing players talk about how much they've made in particular hands, winning players talk about how much they've made in a year. i keep track of every single penny win or lose. i believe it's checkyourbets.com that i've liked in the past. even if i buy a $3 drink, that counts as part of the loss. gas, too. the website is basically a spreadsheet to chart your progress, $/hour, stuff like that. i like to use it because it's too easy to convince yourself that you're at least breaking even. when i played in Wisconsin, i also kept a separate savings account specifically for poker. that way i wasn't being an idiot and dipping into rent or grocery money. some of the people who keep buying in are amazing. they're just there to have fun and the money means nothing. drug dealers are like that, too--it's extra nice when you take their money. i play a lot in Little River, on a casino boat near Myrtle Beach. it's a ton of retired doctors and lawyers, and they are an inexhaustible source of $100 bills.
  21. if Milwaukee was a team that traded anyone with developed talent and was in a constant state of rebuilding, i'm sure we could do the same thing. to say 'they stink' is one thing, but what would you have done differently? plus it's really unfair to pick out the underperformers out of Melvin's trades and FA pickups and say he did a bad job.
  22. ironic that the most recent post when I visited was "women-only fantasy football league."
  23. that's a great suggestion--a campus job would be perfect. not to mention you get to know some students and staff ahead of time. the problem with a retail job is even if you get it, you still can't exactly put that on your resume. maybe it'd be some experience, but unless you're planning on staying for a while, your resume would show that you quit after just three months. if you have the time, volunteering with a campus or community organization would look really nice on your resume, too.
  24. definitely a temp agency. and they wouldn't really care that you don't have experience. for the most part it'll be physical work or helping out with inventory.
  25. advertising is everywhere else, they could have just leased the naming rights to a company: The OKC Motorola Phones.
