  1. might as well sue everyone possible--increases your chances of winning one of them.
  2. ....i really like the idea of Broxton, though. sets us up when CoCo leaves, and trading Inman++ away is softend quite a bit by the bigger prospect Yo staying with Milwaukee. And clearly whatever outfielder would end up going to LA, we've got a replacement for. I don't understand why Gabe Gross wouldn't have any real trading value, though.
  3. wow, I hear a lot about ARod and Giambi possibly traded, and it's just so hard for me to fathom the Yankees trading anyone for prospects. wasn't 05 a year that a lot of teams stood pat and didn't do a lot of trading? i think i'd be happiest if the Brewers did almost nothing. with their platooning, i'd think Yost could just play the hot hand throughout September without really needing to add anybody except maybe a bullpen guy.
  4. As for Mench, as this point he's a salary throw in, so you need to find a reliever getting way too much money. how hard could that really be? sure he's our #2 pitching prospect, but how much value could an A-ball prospect really have to other teams? aren't most always looking for the AAA- or AAAA-type pitcher? I'd almost wonder if ZJ might have more value in a trade then Inman at least right now unless Inman gets promoted and succeeds pretty shortly.
  5. yeah, End seems to be the first one to mention it; why not a trade up to get Horford (assuming the #1 would cost way too much)? wouldn't that make sense for the Bucks to get better?
  6. what about drafting that tall PF from China? well, at least the Bucks have a lot of cap space for FA, so maybe they'll be able to do something there. that way I'll be able to totally ignore a slightly better team next season.
  7. i'd always heard in Picasso's later years he'd go out to a restaurant or something and instead of paying for his bill, he'd quick scratch something on a napkin, sign it, and that'd be his payment. maybe this dog piece runs along those lines. no doubt in his early years he wouldn't have gotten away with that stuff, but later on i'm sure people could care less what he drew but just wanted something with his name on it.
  8. he was a high-school guy, right? not out of college? isn't that usually the standard thing to do with really young guys, let him have his first full pro season in the rookie/instructional league before throwing him into higher pressure situations like A-ball? though i'd think he'd hit low-A by the end of the year if he does ok in rookie.
  9. Although the way A-Rod is hitting home runs right now, he could probably single handedly win the season for us this year. that sounds like JJ Hardy to me.
  10. come on, he's hitting .322/.424/8/25 so far this year. not too shabby.
  11. better idea to take it super-slow with his injury. not like the guy needs another week at Nashville to prove he's ready or anything.
  12. the days of Griffey being the savior for the Reds is over. i think their fans wouldn't protest too much if he left the team.
  13. i don't think it's a terrible idea at all. assuming we're buyers at the deadline, Griffey would make a really nice playoff run addition.
  14. SI is quickly becoming my favourite source for sports articles. you've got to pay for anything on espn, SportingNews just makes its stuff up as it goes, but SI writes some real thoughtful stuff. one good site I use for Brewer articles is prosports daily. They pull any mention of a team from newspapers from around the nation.
  15. is Juan Pierre today's version of Chuckie Carr?
  16. Glad you brought Darren Ford up, definitely he has better skills then many give him credit for. Always fun to watch a guy who's got the skills and speed to swipe 50 bases a season. Is there really a logjam in the ML OF for Darren? He'll be in the minors for at least three years yet and the Power 50 only has three other outfielders listed ahead of him.
  17. i'm only slightly frustrated that football talk isn't here anymore. I think LambeauLeap is a good site, but I read bf.net primarily at work, and for everything else it has been a great one-stop shop for all news and talk. It allows me to read, maybe post, then exit in a short amount of time. so far no calls from IT. also, since football's not as big a deal for me, there's often only one issue I might be interested in, so that extra 45 seconds is a lot, and Packer talk in the off-topic section was very convenient. but in the end, since it's a cost-saver to have LL.net, and I'm not the one paying for the site, I am learning to accept no Packer talk on brewerfan. I suppose once the football season starts maybe I'll be more interested in logging on to LL.net.
  18. game05 is just trying to picture the entire roster talking in the 3rd person.
  19. too bad for Nelson. Soooooooooo close to making it to the bigs.
  20. I guess we have to take this all back conceriding Putz will have Tommy John surgery now. if Putz was an ordinary reliever, or even a good 8th inning guy, then Inman would be too much, but Putz is/was becoming a proven closer--way more valuable then an ordinary good reliever. and then considering the salaries of relievers and closers, they're not all that far apart (Clemens excluded), so GM's must see closers as nearly equal to a decemt starter. plus we've got a good #6 starter in Villy, a higher-ceiling prospect #7 starter in Gallardo, and i think that makes the next-best, Inman, expendable. plus Putz or not, if Melvin makes a midseason acquisition, right now the hole is in middle relief and closer insurance if CoCo leaves. and when you trade, it seems the other teams always want a pitcher in return, so looking in my crystal ball, right now I see Inman being traded for a reliever this season, whoever that reliever might be.
  21. would any other GM really buy that? that Melvin has an untouchable player he really needs as a backup 1B? heck, we moved Hart to 3rd pretty much when Fielder first arrived, so Melvin's track record shows he's fine with no other prospect at 1st then Fielder.
  22. I'd definitely do that to get Cabrera. dude's a bona fide superstar, and Braun at his max potential would be what Miggy already is. to add a sure-thing superstar to a lineup of young guys just coming into their own would make our order a powerhouse. Gross is somewhat expendable. He's a 4th outfielder with some promise. A good farm system will develop one of those every couple of years. Turnbow would be rough, but it's got to hurt somewhere. Though the way T-Bow is throwing now, he's crucial to a successful September run, so it seems like that wouldn't be a good in-season trade, but a good offseason one (granted, Cabrera will be on some other team by then).
  23. I could totally see Jenkins traded even if we were doing well down the stretch. Gross could probably provide 75% of Jenkins' production, and even Gwynn is a lefty and could fill the platoon to a smaller extent. Then for Jenks we get a really solid reliever, probably from another contending team (since who'd want Jenks and his contract if you're not contending). so we fill a pretty crucial relief spot for the stretch run, plus we're not sacrificing any major prospect. to me, a player as talented as Gallardo is more valuable to the future of this club then to trade him away for a stronger push to the playoffs.
  24. Will Inman for Putz? We're ok for prospect starting pitchers and Putz would be solid insurance if CoCo leaves in FA (and if he keeps pitching like this, no way we could afford him, anyway).
  25. wasn't Grienke pretty much rushed to the bigs to get experience simply because the Royals staff was so thin? on most other teams, wouldn't he still be in AAA? from everything I've ever read, he's got a huge upside. I would think the Brewer equivalent wouldn't even be Gross, but more like Hardy.
