  1. i didn't see it as a problem at all, i think a pretty honest answer. he's frustrated by his playing, so why would he want to answer the same questions about why he stinks over and over again from reporters, particularly from the same sort of reporters who can't wait to dig up dirt on him.
  2. On the inside of the lid of the pack I glued in a piece of paper that read "Stoma". it didn't work 100%, but slowed me down.
  3. going toward the capitol, take a right on Mills Street and there's a lot a couple blocks down. I always parked there for free for hockey games. i can't say, though, how full it ends up being during the day.
  4. Cappy and Gwynn for Junior would work for me, provided Cincy picked up some of his salary. Griffey is the perfect type of player to add. We lose some young players but we're not exactly getting a rental. No doubt we would have to pick up his 09 option, but we could develop some young guys like LaPorta or Cain then in a small-time platoon, which would also keep Junior rested. I don't see that adding a big-$ player necessarily means Sheets is gone since we'll have Jenkins and Mench off the books.
  5. M&M isn't horrible, but not a favourite. for me it starts with the commercial breaks. throw in the SC updates (that's what ESPNNEWS is for) and the breaks take forever. and the dialogue is so scripted and fast, it feels like an episode of Gilmore Girls, everything is so fast and prearranged.
  6. ask me again in three years. heck, i'm still thinking of Fielder and Hardy in terms of potential. at this early stage i still feel that success or failure is still, to a large extent, determined by outside variables more than quantifiable talent. whether that be position in the lineup or the players around them or time spent in AAA. at this point we can definitely say that all three are capable of All-Star production, but any rankings i would give would still be determined entirely on what scouts have been saying about them for years and not this year's stats.
  7. adjusting for baseball salary inflation, $20 million five years from now won't be anything outrageous.
  8. I'll miss Patrick if he ends up going to Price is Right or something related that I won't watch. His show was great; he relied on his smarts and talked like a normal human. He didn't have to rely on schtick to get radio ratings unlike everyone else. slightly off-topic, but everyone keeps bashing Rome or M&M as the worst shows on ESPN Radio, when you're forgetting Jason Smith, the midnight-4 am guy. how did he get a radio job with his delivery? Every other. Word. Is [long pause] it's own. Sentence. it's so annoying.
  9. what a wonderful adventure it should be, leaving the Truman-Show-esque city of Bristol to discover that more sports teams exist beyond New England. I wonder if he will still do sports or go the way of Kilborn or Olbermann.
  10. he would have been better off redshirting, anyway. not too big a deal. though we'll lose that two-headed monster at RB, I'll still take a winded PJ Hill over most anybody else.
  11. I used to like Rachel Ray, but now she has become so marketed and is all over everything that she's lost her appeal to me. For me, a lot of her cuteness was in her small-timey-ness. Now that it's turned to "buy my stuff and watch my show" her image feels too contrived, even though she hasn't really changed. Once you show up on a soup can, you're dead to me. It's not shameful because it was a carpentry show, but I used to watch some HGTV show with a cute lady-carpenter. I used to watch Great Hotels because of the host, too. That's probably my most shameful.
  12. I wonder if this is going to effect his HOF votes.
  13. he was Johnny Carson's most-frequent guest. that says a lot.
  14. heck, i don't even visit espn's web page anymore, it's too full of ads and you need to pay to read anything. every site out there now offers more than they do. for me, it all started with that reality show they did to pick their next broadcaster. that was when the network first decided that gimmics were more important than sports analysis.
  15. interesting question. i think he's been huge. nobody but scrubs would have signed with Milwaukee to be part of a perennial 90-loss team. exit Sheets Hall wouldn't have extended the contract no Suppan no Carlos Lee, as said before Weeks may not have been drafted over a cheaper player no Miller boy, just imagine the team now if Moeller was still our starter and Gross and Brady as our starting OF. and with Jenkins being allowed to hit against lefties. yikes. Graffy or Councell would have been that one big FA that Selig trotted out each year saying they would save the team. this team would have turned into the Expos in short order and we'd be lucky to break a million fans a year.
  16. you almost really have to grade on a curve based on the weak NL Central. off: C+ (yeah, some great hitters on the team, but our lesser hitters have some serious holes that hurt sustained runs, not that I expect everyone to be Fielder) def: B (only Bill Hall keeps us from an A, but nice to see him improving like we knew he would) bullpen: A- (some hiccups, of course, but TBow and CoCo have meant a lot more wins for us this year than if we had a different duo. Villy alone might earn the bullpen A) mgmt: B- (not a huge fan, but hard to argue about a division lead) over: B+ (we're probably only a couple games behind where a better team would be at this point)
  17. growing up on the Transformers is just why I'm hesitant to see it, not wanting to spoil an old memory with flashy special effects and most importantly, without that cool sound effect they always had when the cartoon-bots transformed.
  18. with the lead we've got, the division is ours to lose, no matter who the Cards or Cubs add to their team.
  19. but do the Brewers really need yet another HR guy? we're already doing fine in the solo-HR category. I'd love a guy who could hit .320 and move Braun out of 3.
  20. isn't that pretty much trading an apple for an apple?
  21. Biggio is one of the top 5 players of the past two decades, he's in. wow, really? that comment deserves its own thread. I'm really interested in your list now.
  22. do you have to have some program like MS Paint to be able to size these photos down? the ones I'm able to find on the Web at 60x60 don't have much to them. is there an easy way to change photo size? really, I'm only looking for an avatar so it's easier to identify my posts and read which ones have come after.
  23. third strike? that's like throwing your bat at an umpire. what the heck?
  24. i agree. sure, a one-paragraph blurb isn't going to be too important, but Brewer-focused editorials I'd enjoy as a separate topic. so many writers make wild comments that would be fun to debate with some real numbers and further analysis. i often miss out on good articles because i don't usually feel like plowing through the huge article tracker thread and picking out what to read. it would mean a few low-post threads, but generate a lot of good discussion on many others.
  25. i think of players like Rob Deer and Greg Vaughn, who were just big guys who finished with a lot of HRs but did nothing else. obviously that takes a lot of skill, but when i think of the players with real, true, natural baseball talent, i think of the guys who are always on base and getting hit after hit. racking up that many hits in a career really stands out to me as superior. and Biggio trying for 2nd and not stopping at 1st to relish the accomplishment, that was such a great, classy play.
