  1. Sold my hot dog cart. I'm now completely out of the vending game. I liked running that cart but just couldn't get out often enough to make it work. But if I retire in the US it's likely I'll start up again and use it as a retirement job.
  2. The Nantahala Outdoor Center is just south of the Smokies. Lets you do self-guided whitewater rafting (their main stretch only has one Class 3 waterfall) or guided. Pretty little spot with hot dogs and such for sale. Good place to sit on the river and watch some of the best kayakers in the US (no exaggeration) do noseplants in the waves. And the 16 miles from there north to Fontana Dam is the toughest stretch of the Southern half of the Appalachian Trail.
  3. If you have to work 12-14 hours a day seven days a week how much would you really care about the weather outside? And it's a summer offseason of Wisconsin weather so not as much need for an offseason home somewhere else.
  4. Wonder if Lillard will go back to Portland and finish off his career there or if he'll try and go for a ring.
  5. I still want to go see Yakov Smirnoff in Branson. I've seen a video of his show now and it looked really good. But last time I went we saw Terry Bradshaw. Yep, he has a live show. The father wanted to get out so the brother said "Ooh, Terry Bradshaw is in town!" The brother was joking but the father doesn't understand sarcasm, so that's where we went. He tells a few stories and sings a lot of showtunes.
  6. Just got back from a trip to Poland, Lithuania and an accidental stop in Sweden. Gdansk is pretty and offers a good amount of stuff to do. The Solidarity Museum was great to learn more about that movement. Curonian Spit in Lithuania was pretty and very similar in appearance and vibe to a northern Great Lakes town, small and a bit touristy. Vilnius not as cheap as I'd have figured but loved the churches and history. Liked that place best, though The Brother liked Poland more. We were pretty disappointed with the food overall, especially with Vilnius being considered a foodie city, though we're thinking we just didn't hit the right spots, maybe, although the herring in sour cream is gross.
  7. I've been avoiding the advice of "You should talk with the boss about the issues" because it would most likely turn into a talk of all the ways in which I'm terrible and I'm not anxious for that conversation, nor am I a "roll off your back" type of person to begin with. A co-worker says it would be a bad idea. But things have only gotten worse and I guess if I say nothing, than nothing could possibly change. Boss just said he's eyeing retirement in three years, which is both too long to just suck it up and deal with it, but also not so long that transferring is my only option. Had a staff meeting yesterday to introduce a new wave of nonsense and the boss asked me a few times for comment, which I declined as I wasn't going to be negative like that in front of the staff.
  8. This has been such a difficult cycle. I was smart enough to get my money in quite early, but I made a big mistake being too degenerate and not sticking to the major alts, which are still way up from when I first got my money in. Otherwise I've just been holding for a long time now. For the most part haven't been jumping to whatever hot new thing. The value of the alts I have are down enough I don't view them as substantially different from anything smaller, and the hot new things the influencers keep pushing only feels like them trying to keep their attention and activity up.
  9. Would I be correct in thinking that with the merger, upped standards and reduced bonuses that they're basically hoping you all leave as opposed to layoffs and paying severance/unemployment? Wish I had a connection in sales to point you to but it's been a long time since I've worked in magazines.
  10. Day 1 of trying out ladies' press-on fake nails to try and mitigate my nail-biting habit. Glue isn't that great on some and they're all turning a little white despite the matte polish I used.
  11. I wonder if part of the thought on the restructure is to make him a little more manageable to trade as well as potentially another year on his contract which other teams would like. That even if there's a restructure it doesn't necessarily mean the relationship has changed or there are no longer plans to trade him.
  12. Did anyone like the Jaguars' draft? Seems crazy to give up your 1st next year which could very well be a Top-10 pick. They'd have still gotten a good player where they were. I get it for a QB, but extremely few WRs or CBs have ever been so game-changing to give up that much for. And it's not like Hunter will end up playing all that much of both positions.
  13. We're well beyond any believable "we can compete" excuse. Be the Greatest Buck with at least a two-year rebuild or move on to win a heck of a lot more games but bounce around the last half of your career. Bucks' brass are supposedly going to meet with Giannis in the coming few days.
  14. The fewer prime-time Packers games the better for me. I don't want to stay up super late to watch and if it's a Thursday game, most often I forget that they're even on and miss the game entirely.
  15. My brother had a tour guide in Rome when the Pope was speaking. The tour guide offered that or visit the Sistine Chapel. The brother chose the chapel and there was about nobody there. Apparently normally you're just pushed through the thing from the mass of people.
  16. When I was a little kid I had to go to a sleep doctor because I kept having a recurring nightmare. Still remember the dream, too. Had to stay up 24 hours which was absolute misery. I guess I don't go into the deepest phase of sleep which I think is all that came from the doctor visit.
  17. I haven't been to a commercial gym in a while. Is it overblown the number of e-girls there filming themselves working out in what's basically underwear, or is social media making it a bigger problem than it really is?
  18. I've been presuming the move to C meant he wouldn't be re-signed. I can't figure the Packers would pay a Center what would end up being Guard and fill-in Tackle money, nor would he accept Center money when he could get Guard money elsewhere.
  19. Cripes it's like I can't do anything right. Stuck at the house an extra 30 minutes for lunch because some propane workers were in my driveway blocking it, but I guess I was still being watched and get a sarcastic text asking if I'm gonna stay at home the rest of the day. Can't park right, can't send an email right, can't paint right..... edit: Just the incessant criticism. Today a maintenance guy said he had to pick his kid up early from daycare because they lost power. I said "You'd think a place with little kids would have a generator for backup." A nothing comment, maybe even a stupid one, but the reply was "Why don't you mind your own f'n business."
  20. I've had this same one. A little once/week nothing class on Wednesday that I just totally forgot I had until near the end of the semester. Do I just start showing up now that it's too late to matter? Will they forget about me, too?
  21. We should just eliminate Divisions and every NFC team plays the other NFC teams once per year. With a bye week there would only be one additional game to throw in either for a rivalry team or local AFC team. Far fewer issues with different strength-of-schedules that way plus no more sub-par teams making the playoffs due to being in a bad Division. Plus you add in what used to be a fun element of MLB where the SuperBowl teams are unfamiliar with each other, as well as the potential of differently evolving NFC and AFC playstyles.
  22. Heck, are they even a playoff team next year? Giannis will get quadruple-teamed.
  23. Thank you for that note. That's stuff I try to shy away from.
  24. No worries I didn't take it as anything negative and you're correct on both counts. Although if Sean Connery didn't actually mention Vilnius in the movie don't tell me as it's too late to change plans:) The brother wanted to do Estonia but I somehow made the more convincing argument.
  25. I keep thinking about how the Packers were a good running team last year yet were ranked 23rd in run blocking. And now we're going in with a healthy Morgan and a 2nd Rounder who had a terrific run-blocking grade. Jenkins at C can't hurt, either. Maybe it's a ho-hum thing but it feels like improving the run blocking to even middle of the pack could mean a significant improvement to the offense overall.
