  1. to Death Metal, as you give each other prison tats. oh, i know now:) the Get Info on a purchased song what? we're supposed to buy our music?
  2. certainly Fielder won't turn around the Mariner's offense by himself, but they have to start somewhere, right? and unless i'm wrong, GMs on the hot seat tend to take bigger risks than most and stop looking so much at the future. with only two other teams bidding (seemingly), do you think there's a chance that Fielder takes a one-year deal to wait until he's the biggest star of the market, unlike he is this year? maybe Jesus Moreno will be traded or Ortiz will finally be let go by Boston.
  3. Goodbye Solo is a great watch and available for streaming on Netflix. set in Winston-Salem (yay!) it's about an older guy who wants to commit suicide in a week (not a spoiler) and the taxi driver who kinda-sorta takes him in and tries at least to understand him. it's not judgemental or preachy and thankfully doesn't use contrasting characters. also well-paced, since these types of movies tend to feel slow. no moral or lesson, just a tender bit of time spent with two interesting people.
  4. though you're totally in the clear, you can always assuage any guilt of keeping it by giving it to charity. "Hi. did I lose an iPod here three months ago?" "I tried to contact you but I ended up giving it to charity." who could possibly be mad at that?
  5. predicting his ability in his next contract is irrelevant. we don't know if we'll want to resign him at that point, don't know if he'll sign for yet another bargain based on ability, don't know how much he'll even regress as a player. i can understand trading him for equal value, but not trading him based on what he might be after his current contract is up. Braun is going to be terrible once his current contract expires, too. A talented young pitcher under control for 6 years is a lot harder to find that 20-30 home run a year right fielder who plays below average defense and costs $9 million a year. Just my opinion. not based on research, but i'd bet that reasonably-priced 30 HR hitters (defense notwithstanding) are much more rare in baseball than quality pre-arby pitchers. plus the consensus seems to be Hart for an up-and-coming AAA type player, which is no guarantee of success. if we were a .300 team the risk would be worth taking, but not as we currently stand.
  6. i don't know how exactly it could be worse, although some experts have been thinking that the country has been sliding into a famine similar to the horrible one they had in the 90s. wait, i take that back. Joon could finally be the one to decide to reunite the two Koreas. horrifying the number of deaths that would cause.
  7. 1. Hart is our most tradeable asset and it's fun to play GM 2. people enamored with Aoki as if he's going to be immediatly better than Hart, making Hart expendable if Hart was making $15M per i'd have a different opinion of him. but he's a huge bargain at $9M and i certainly don't have any desire to see him leave the team. i can't envision any trade at all that would bring back the value per dollar that Hart already gives us.
  8. nobody talked about anyone moving positions when we signed Kotsay, and i don't see this as a lot different. a potential 50-game ban is a long time, but it's certainly not long enough to start making pretty drastic moves like moving established players to new positions. it's odd the way brewerfan nation fluxuates between "Gamel deserves a shot" to moving someone else to 1B and basically relegating him to yet another year at AAA.
  9. a more fun risk/reward/mystery player than the alternative scrappy veteran would be. i can't imagine he's any kind of domino to a future move, though. maybe more expensive than the typical fill-in, but maybe also he represents some added revenue streams. nobody was going out to grab Kotsay jerseys, but i bet we'll sell some Aoki ones. plus maybe now all eight Japanese people in Milwaukee will attend more games. i only hesitate on trading Morgan because i wonder if he really drove the character of the team last year. maybe some fans thought that T.Plus was annoying, but who knows what the team thought. maybe he's always TPlush to the media, but maybe he isn't behind closed doors. and if he only nets us another version of Cutter Dykstra, then what's the point?
  10. 50 games isn't the end of the world. now we have a SS who doesn't have to backpedal for any ball not hit directly at him, and we just signed the best FA 3rd Baseman on the market to fill the black hole we had there last year. what's not to get excited about? the massive offensive upgrade at 3B probably outweighs the offensive downturn at 1B, plus we've upgraded three positions defensively. and our bench is better. maybe we've got a better overall team this year than last year. who cares of ARam was a Cub. so what? you think the Cardinals wouldn't want Fielder right now because he untucks his shirt? i hope we're not all getting a little bit spoiled here. i don't think there's anything DM could have done better this offseason. Fielder was already gone and so he went out and made big upgrades at our two weakest positions, spending money that nobody thought he really had.
  11. i believe Braun but still think he's going to get suspended. you can accidentally buy the wrong kind of protein powder and still get suspended for it (which is my guess to what happened to Braun). there's extremely little wiggle room in the rules to win an appeal. Greinke was either injured or not himself for the first 50 games last year, so i'm sure we can get by ok without Braun. and if it means Gomez and Morgan playing in the OF together, then i guess we'll just have a really great defensive outfield for a while. Carlos Lee in Left? wouldn't that be the same defensively as just laying a glove on the ground and hoping the ball will land in it?
  12. i really like the signing. nice job, DM. three years isn't team-perfect, but i don't think you could as for better years/reported money for a free-agent power hitter than what we got. considering this should be his last big contract, i'm surprised ARam settled for just three years. if it were a two-year contract, that would have cost us $30M, so might as well add the third year for just a bit more. he's obviously not at their level, but if Pujols is getting 10 years and Fielder is looking at 7, then i'm just fine with giving ARam 3. his flexibility at 1B should be really nice should Green or Gamel struggle some. every year we have this with new signings or prospective signings where we ignore the good of a player and get nitpicky about the negatives as if there's the perfect player out there that we could have signed for $2M per year. the only perfect player out there just signed for $55 Billion per year with the Angels.
  13. as it is, i'm almost off of MLB because there's no chance for the small markets to win. why should i become a Bucks fan? aren't the small markets just developmental leagues for the big kids? i think the only reason i pay the slightest attention is because of Bogut. rare to find someone as talented as he is who is fun to watch, great with the fans and so funny. i guess if Stern wants to market the NBA toward its players and not the teams, then i'll just become a fan of whatever team Bogut plays for.
  14. i just died a little inside. suddenly goes from superhuman to just another PED Superstar. really disappointing.
  15. the Office was decent. glad they're not going in the exact same direction with Ed Helms and the Secretary than they did with Jim and Pam. not really into musicals, so i fast-forwarded through most all of Community. well, all but Annie's song. i, uh, like her singing. so i already had to patiently wait through Parks & Rec's season being delayed, and now Community? i know it's getting terrible ratings, but i hope NBC starts to realize that what's important is putting out quality shows and then the viewership will follow. ...so when does Louis C.K. make his inevitable appearance on Parks & Rec?
  16. at the same time, sometimes i wonder why we haven't really seen any front-loaded contracts. i understand that money loses value with inflation, and that a team can invest a lot of that money to recoup some. but we see a lot of big contracts signed with deferred money, that player declines in ability, but then becomes untradeable because of a high salary late in the contract. front-load the contract and you certainly lose some money from deferred payments, but you'd be benefitting the player's trade value. maybe you'd be able to trade a fading star if he's only owed $12 million more instead of that star being untradeable for being owed $20 million.
  17. boy, it would just make my day if we could trade Wolf for a cheap defensive SS and use that money to sign ARam. improved defense at 3b, SS and 1b, and then (ARam+Gamel) minus (Fielder+McGehee) might end up being an overall improvement on offense. obviously a loss in the rotation, mitigated by now only really needing to hold a lead through the 7th inning. but i know that's a stretch. the team seems like a bit of a contradiction, though, the way it's now built on starting pitching and a great late-inning bullpen, yet the defense behind it is terrible. maybe Yuni will be back, then. hope he doesn't lose a step on defense next year, because he only had that one.
  18. i wouldn't see the Marlins wanting prospects so much as solid players to build themselves into a winner right away. they don't sign Reyes and make offers at Pujols to then trade for prospects. first i heard Ramirez was happy to move to 3rd, then that he wasn't happy with it, so who knows what the real situation is. i would think Hart, Marcum and Gomez (but then i don't know the Marlins' needs too well). but DM has always stood by the idea that he's not going to trade for a player by creating a hole at another position. and we don't have the prospects in place for them to just jump in and fill the production that any of our Major League guys give.
  19. thanks. i saw ask.com hires writers, but not in any areas i have an expertise in. but Trails.com hires freelancers, so that would be ideal. i'll be creating my editing/hiking resume tomorrow and we'll see what happens.
  20. my job involves random work schedules that are both in the early morning and late at night, meaning a second job at McDonalds would be just about impossible. but i need to make some extra money. i hate to ask this because it sounds like i'm trying to sell something, but has anyone ever made any sort of money working from home or via the Interwebs? i know it means a lot of work for little pay, but if i have anything, it's free time. it's just i don't know where to start and i figure most companies that offer this are just scams.
  21. i was sure that i was saving about $150 a month, but apparently i'm in the red about $250 a month, and all while i need the money to fly out to interviews and for a future move across the country. dang. it means i need a smaller food bill, and cooking is a hobby of mine; and no more going out to the bar, which represents my social life. but i just can't keep losing money the way i am.
  22. but isn't avoiding a strategy based on the chances that the money winds up in the hands of a thief a bit of a paranoid reaction? $30 million is sure worth a lot less in 20 years than it is now if you're going to have to pay him the money, regardless. even though Bonilla lost out on the opportunity to make more money by investing it now instead of getting it later, i think he made a great move. it has to be really easy to spend all the money you make right away and then find yourself broke upon retirement. for example, Evander Holyfield had a fight in Africa somewhat recently, not because he wants the competition, but because he's totally broke. smart move by Bonilla.
  23. i don't notice the commercial breaks as much as i notice the in-game commercials: "This forward pass is brought to you by Nintendo!" and then in the middle of the show the Griffin Family pops up to take half the screen to dance around and advertise their next episode. if it isn't the Packers playing i don't watch the Superbowl anymore for just how much marketing gets jammed down our throats the whole time. on that note i'll add that CBS Sports bugs me. their web page starts out with a regular-sized banner ad on top, so you start reading the headlines and you're fine. a few seconds later the banner ad expands to take up the whole screen, so you have to scroll down to read what you were reading. then a few seconds later the banner ad reduces in size again and you then have to scroll up to read what you were reading. it's really annoying, but it's still the best site i've found. if i go to ESPN, their page is just a mess with ads posted everywhere and then their subscription-only articles that it's hard to find just where the actual sports news is anymore.
  24. i thought it was New Glarus. she operated a crafts store, but now she's pretty old and lives in a home.
  25. this is grad school, though. big variation from school to school. wow, i can't believe an employer actually made a Palin comment during an interview. regardless of one's opinion of her, you'd think a hiring manager should already know that a political comment during an interview can get the company in some trouble.
