I completely agree. The only thing I can think of to argue that is when will Dubon be ready? Is Dubon the next 2b for the Crew within the minors? I know Diaz is a few years away. I like Walker at the top of our lineup though. Unfortunately, we just can’t trust Villar.

There's still a place for vets in any rebuilding mix and I'd much prefer an Arrieta over what we got out of Matt Garza (although the recent revelation of Garza's collision-induced shoulder injury puts his 2nd half struggles in a totally different light). There was really only Braun and Jeffress (and I suppose Vogt) going into this off-season in terms of established vets -- not a bad thing, but rarely does any rebuild gain ALL its steam before you begin adding vets. Now we've added Chacin, Logan, and Gallardo, and only two of those are sure bets to make the club if healthy. Point being, adding an Arrieta or someone comparable, whether as a FA or via trade, doesn't blow the rebuild out of the water. My hunch is that if we add an Arrieta or Lynn or Cobb, it's because the financial cost to signing them represented a better deal for the organization than the cost of prospects to go after an Archer type. I'm not saying Arrieta is my ideal move (I don't know what my ideal move is because I can't know the potential costs of every option), but I do trust Stearns if he feels Arrieta is the best needed strategic option the Brewers have for improving the rotation for not just this year but beyond. It's a win now move and not a very good one unless people feel we are an Arrieta away from being a playoff team. Yah, but this would not be just for this year. This would/could be a win now move for next year and the year after. We have a pretty stellar minor league system with some could-be-gems for pitching. We have the finances this year to add a top of the rotation pitcher which will help our team this...but...be primed to be a top of the rotation pitcher next year as well. Next years FA class is supposedly way better than this one. Imagine already having Arrieta in the fold along with Anderson and Nelson. Now you add one more ACE to that rotation next year and it will become a win now move. If Sterns can pull this off, I would applaud it and not look back.

I'm not surprised in the least...As I had assumed all along. Being mentioned with everyone, but not acquiring anyone. Oh well, looks like Brewers aren't going to do anything. I have a feeling that Stearns is the type of GM that WAY overvalues his prospects, and thinks most of them are worth a lot more than they really are. So no matter what, he is always going to feel like acquiring someone is an overpay, when in reality it's likely not. I think he has no problems giving up "fringe" prospects or guys that are blocked (Cooper), but when it actually comes down to trading away(what he thinks is) a higher level prospect...He just can't bring himself to do it. I think no matter what, he would always feel like he didn't get a very good deal, and he can't stomach that. I just hope his rebuild works, but it's a long shot I'd say. Was this supposed to be in blue? There is still 6 days until the deadline. Most trades don't happen until the last few hours. David Stearns has done nearly everything perfect in this rebuild. I believe it may be a tad early for such cynicism.

Moderators feel free to lock this if necessary as I was unable to locate the thread regarding our opinions on David Sterns. I was wondering if there has been any chatter or opinions on David Sterns and the ongoing reports that his asking prices are too high for our players. With the example of Rodney recently getting dealt to the Marlins, and the reports of the prospect dealt was on the table for Jeffress but that DS's asking price was prospect ++....I'm worried that this is just another example of DS asking too much for our players and we'll lose out of some potential nice trades because the other GM's are thinking...."Who the heck does this rookie think he is driving up the price tag on me?! I'm not going to deal with no matter what." I hope I'm way off base here but I just have this feeling that there are some more established GM's in the league the may be feeling this way towards DS. Other examples are his asking prices being extremely high for Lucroy. I personally like the fact that he's holding his ground and not being taken advantage of by other GM's, but again, just worry that he's sending the wrong vibes towards other GM's. Thoughts?

I'd love to see a baseball documentary about the difficulties of raising a family as an MLB player. While no one will shed a tear because MLB players can take care of their family financially, it is certainly a difficult way of life to spent time of away from your very young children. Especially a first child, like Ryan's one-year old daughter. It very rarely causes players to walk away from the game, however. (especially players with fat contracts) Disney made the documentary already. It's titled: The Rookie.

Interesting to see today's line-up. Wily Peralta on the mound who is our opening day pitcher and they have Maldonado catching for him. You would think that with 1 or 2 outings left in spring for Wily, that they would want to pair him with the catcher who's going to be catching for him. Just a conspiracy theory of mine. Lucroy isn't even in the line-up today after a day off. Very interesting.

The names that we have in our minor league teams is definitely something that gets me excited. I could rattle the ones off that will eventually (hopefully) become a Brewer, but many of you already have. My main concerns as of right now that put any damper into my excitement are the following. 1) Where is our Ace? With the dismantling of our team over the last year, we have yet to obtain anyone who is considered Top of the Line Ace quality. Peralta will most likely not be around for the long haul and will eventually get traded for prospects. Nelson? I'm hopeful. But who in our minors has that Ace tag associated with him? To my knowledge, no one. 2) Who's going to be our Studs moving forward? As of right now, Arcia and Phillips are the closest thing to good-to-great/All-Star players we have. I like Demi's potential along with several others, but who's our K. Bryant, C. Correa? At this time, we don't have one and this year are hoping that one or several of the names listed in this thread begin to show that they can become studs. My guessing is that the next 2 year's of drafts will provide us our potential studs. Overall, our minor leagues are vastly improved and the excitement levels to watch/follow these youngster's career's should be excitement enough for any Brewer fan.
