  1. I knew I it was going to be a long season of the same ole Brewer baseball that we've come to know after the second inning of the first game. Down 0-4 after the first and we get a nice momentum swing double play by Lind. Get first two runners on with no out. Davis comes to the plate and I say to my pop... OK, this will tell us if we made any offensive philosophy changes in the off season. BUNT!!! But no, Davis swings for the fences on the first two pitches and strikes out looking. That did it for me. Same ole Brewers. I'm looking forward to the trade deadline.
  2. I could get on board with the Lara as 3B in 2016 bandwagon. Seeing that we're going "all in" this year (by getting Lind and no one else), I could see Lara as a great 3B option to build upon with.
  3. Just for the heck of it, what kind of return from the Crew would Melvin be ok with if we were to get Pap AND Lee/Hamels?
  4. 1. Segura 2. Lucroy 3. Braun 4. Lind 5. Gomez 6. Ramirez 7. Davis 8. Scooter
  5. The words that come out of Melvin's mouth are pretty much worthless. There was zero talk about trading Gallardo or any starter and then all of a sudden he was gone. This actually isn't the case. There's been numerous reports of the Brewers shopping Yovani and/or Lohse from a few months ago. Your point of don't rely entirely on what DM says in interviews during times of FA signings/deadlines is completely accurate. He is a wizard of saying a lot in interviews without saying anything at all.
  6. I think what we are seeing is actually the beginning of a rebuild.I believe that Doug Melvin sees the writing on the wall and that St. Louis Pittsburgh Cincinnati and the Cubs are all moving ahead of us for the future. Based on tom haudricorts latest tweets it appears that no big signing is ahead rather minor bullpen arm signings. I could be wrong but I see this being the beginning of a rebuild
  7. They made him a $60 million dollar offer and he declined. What more do you want. No one knew that he would have the season/impact that he did this year...or else every team in the MLB would have been offering him $100 million. Give the Brewers front office credit enough to offer him a contract worth that much in the first place, as well as a contract in the park of other teams offers.
  8. No way I give away 6 years of control of both James Nelson and Coulter. No way!! Unless M.A has a deal in place to pay Price and keep him hear for the foreseeable future, then stay away!!
  9. One word. Estrada!!!!! Ace of the staff.
  10. I'm hopeful that Melvin brought in Overbay and Reynolds as "just in case options" and he still has an eye on a 1B prize via trade. I don't think they want to get rid of Juan's power potential as he would be a great power asset on the bench for both 3B and 1B. Cheap, Young left handed power is a commodity in this league. With that said, I'm thinking they were hoping for lightening in a bottle between MR or LO and they just haven't been producing to this point. I will be shocked if we don't see a trade for a 1B prior to 3/31. I have no sources...just my guy feeling.
  11. Record: 89 - 73 All Stars: Lucroy, Braun, Lohse, Gomez Biggest Surprise: Peralta: 15 - 16 game winner this year. 3.45 ERA Biggest Disappointment: Ed Sedar (just messing)... K. Davis Lots of pressure and I think Logan S will take over as the primary LF. Playoffs: 2nd WC. Will beat the Nats for the play-in game. Gallardo will be the winning pitcher. Place in Division: 2nd World Series: Braves vs. Texas
  12. So long as Ramirez stays healthy... .307/.357/.545 34 HR, 129 rbi
  13. Rotation: Lohse, Garza, Gallardo, Peralta, Estrada BP: Henderson, KRod, Kintzler, Smith, Wang, Thornburg, Wooten (for Gorzo) IF: Overbay, Reynolds, Scooter, Weeks, Segura, Ramirez, Bianchi OF: Davis, Gomez, Braun, Schafer C: Luc, Candy Maldonado
  14. I'm getting tired of hearing Suppan's name! Garza is far superior the pitcher than Soup. Fathoms me!
  15. bjkraut, couldn't have said it better myself. We have an owner who wants to win. We have a GM that is able to get the deals done if needed. I'll agree with Tiger though...something is inherently wrong when we can't copy a design that the Cardinals have created. We aren't the only ones, as there are 30 other teams who are trying to copy their model too and have or have not been successful. I would like to imagine that a special position w/in the organization could be hired. The position: Cardinal Scout. Have this person study and analyze every single move that the Cardinals have made over the last 15 years and find the patterns. Sounds pretty simple to me. Just make it happen.
  16. Plus, in regards to Yovani, as well as all our players,, we don't have the dang WBC to worry about this year. I truly think that our awful start had a lot to do with the amount of players we had in the WBC...especially our pitchers such as Yo having to go hard waaay too soon. Also, not having Maldy and Lucroy hurt our pitching staff drastically. Here's to a fresh year without the injuries and WBC messing things up.
  17. The thing that I love most about this signing is that...in my mind....it moves YoGo to the #3 spot. Having Gallardo as your 3rd option makes this team above average to say the least. Allowing Peralta and Estrada to move down is stellar as well and can't be understated, however having Yovanni as our #3 is saaaawwwweeeet!!! Nicely done Doug! Way to go Mark A! Go Crew!
  18. What would the 2B WAR be w/out Weeks there? I could see our 1B being a Negative but I guess one is just as close.
  19. Segura Lucroy Braun Ramirez Gomez Davis Reynolds/JF Gennett/Weeks I don't want Weeks anywhere near the top of the line-up. He has done nothing to deserve that spot in the slightest. If he is still on this team come Opening Day, he'll definitely be platooning (Obviously), but Gennett will be the starter. If RRR is going to go w/consistency, I'd rather have Gennett/Weeks at the bottom of the line-up, even though I'd love to have Gennett, Segura, Braun at the top of the line-up. With that said, I went with Lucroy in the #2 hole. He has shown the ability to take several pitches, work the count and draw a BB w/good consistency. In front of Braun, I think Lucroy could be an ideal candidate and assist with getting his #'s back to where they were in '12. I'll agree that by doing so, our bottom of the line-up may not be as stable as it could, but I want our best hitters at the top of the line-up. I feel that Gomez has shown that he can protect the #3 and #4 hitters. I could see switching Davis and the Reynolds/JF platoon.
  20. 1. Move up on this list. http://conorglassey.com/big-leaguers-drafted-1996-2013/ 2. Steal some of the Cardinal's mojo, way of thinking, mission statement. Whatever the Cardinals are doing. Do that! 3. Beat the stinking Cardinals as much as possible. 4. Draft/Develop more contact type hitters other than just power guys. Scooter is a good sign. More of that. 5. RRR must learn how to manage a BP better.
  21. Do you really think they should've thrown the money toward Hart that Seattle did? That's what it would've taken to keep him. And I think that approach would've been patently absurd. They already gave him $10M last year and got ZILCH for it! Seattle's signing of Hart could be good, but given Hart's injuries last year and no MLB playing time since then, like your comment about the Brewers' approach to Hart, it stands to blow up in their face as badly or worse as what you believe was the Brewers' approach could do on the Brewers. ....). I wasn't speaking about Cory Hart. I would not have come even close to signing Hart for what Seattle did. Massive overpay. I was talking more on the lines of making a trade for Price and extending him to a long term deal immediately. BIG splash like that.
  22. You don't sign a guy like Reynolds to not be on the major league roster. Basically the same guy as JF, so I'm assuming there's going to be a righty/lefty platoon at 1st. Reynold's splits are actually inconsistent. My original thinking was that his best years was when he was playing for AZ and their home field which is almost exactly what Miller Park would offer him. I was beginning to think that he could have a resurrection of sorts in Miller Park, and as some others have said...playing in Cincy and Chicago more is definitely going to help his numbers. So then I looked at his splits during the 09, 10, and 11 seasons. He actually hit more HR's away from than while at home. His righty/lefty splits are even more inconsistent. He slightly better OBP and OPS against lefties than righties. With that said, as long as he and JF stay in the 7 hole, I can get on board with this. With that said though...I am strongly upset with Doug Melvin and Mark A this offseason. They held their hand too much on Cory Hart and that blew up in their face. By doing so, they left themselves with absolutely no options. I was very much hoping/thinking that Melvin had an ace up his sleeve that no one was thinking of. Someone that the Brewers organization could have utilized to sell some more season tickets so that we can get close to 3 million fans again. With the year that we had last year, plus the whole Braun PR nightmare....I would have thought that the Crew would have made a huge splash to get the fan base excited again. Guess I was wrong. Let's hope that a 30 year old Reynolds can produce enough at the 7 hole. Go Crew.
  23. How is Mark Reynolds abilities in the field? Can he okay a good 1B?
  24. Seriously guys, there's a reason why Seattle went away from Smoak. What has he proven in the bigs? Not much. I'd rather have Gamel...and I don't want Gamel. Just say no to Smoak.
  25. There's a reason why Seattle went with options other than Smoak. Let's not take their garbage after Jay Z fleeced us. This is starting to feel a lot like Danny Ferry fleecing John Hammond and the Bucks all summer long. Ugh.
