  1. Yup it sure looked like Fielder expected Macha to do something. I would have liked to see a shot of what Macha was doing when Fielder was looking into the dugout. I hate hate hate hate hate it when home plate umpires don't check with the base umps on check swings.
  2. Yeah, I certainly wouldn't want an old guy like Roy Halladay, Chris Carpenter, Tim Hudson, Andy Pettitte or Ted Lilly pitching as the #2 for the Brewers. EDIT: Roy Halladay age 33 2010 stats: 8-4, 1.96 ERA, 1.02 WHIP Chris Carpenter age 35 2010 stats: 7-1, 2.66 ERA, 1.12 WHIP Tim Hudson age 34 2010 stats: 6-2, 2.43 ERA, 1.16 WHIP Andy Pettitte age 37 2010 stats: 8-1, 2.46 ERA, 1.10 WHIP Ted Lilly, age 34 2010 stats: 2-5, 2.90 ERA, 1.00 WHIP And again you are pulling out a handful of players when the greater majority will not pitch well past the age of 32. This is like arguing pitchers can easily pitch 140 pitches a game because Nolan Ryan did it. Are any of those guys you listed realistically going to be available to us? My guess would be no. They are likely to be at the top of the class of free agents and paid more than we should be paying for players that age.
  3. I don't mean you have to make something Packers, but chances are there's someone you know who likes them better and could find a use for the green and yellow. Incidentally, I am not that someone. My sister makes fairly elaborate cakes for her kids' birthdays. The last one was a dragon. It was a piece of work. I refuse to enable Packer fans. I am not that creative either. You get cake the shape of the pan. We have circles, squares and rectangles.
  4. In this case I think he already got a break by not hiving his fine doubled. Not sure if that would come up if he tried to fight it. His main concern seems to be his insurance premium going up and in that case I would think unless the ticket is dropped completely, it will not make a difference.
  5. One extreme example doesn't exactly prove anything. In sports, especially post steroid era, it is ancient.
  6. So are you saying the manager should manage according to what is probable instead of what is possible?
  7. Get it patched if at all possible. It usually around $15. Of course if it was an old tire you should probably replace it anyway. No idea where you can get a cheap tire. Fleet Farm maybe.
  8. Suppan has value, just not the $14.5M in value we are paying him this year including his buyout.
  9. Ugh, so the possibility would be Escobar and Gomez #1 and 2. I think the thread title should be "When", not "If."
  10. So... what's your criteria for a solid #2 starter? Not old.
  11. If anyone ever asks me why I don't join in the wave at a baseball game, I'll be tempted to punch the asker in the face. I would pay to see that. Not that I advocate violence against stupid wave people.
  12. Same for Gomez. I wish we would get Gomez and Escobar almost every day no matter the results as both are probably a big part of the near future of this team. Lucroy as well now that I think about it.
  13. In the state of Wisconsin, there has to be a Packers-themed use for lots of green and yellow food coloring.Well my 4 soon to be 5 year old wanted a blue baseball bat cake which I luckily talked him into a blue baseball cake. Not hard if you have ever dealt with a 4 year old(how about a baseball cake?, Ok daddy) No idea how I would make a baseball bat shaped cake. So he is getting a lemon cake dyed blue with white frosting and red piping like a baseball. The best part is the face my wife makes at the thought of a blue cake and of course the next day my son coming out of the bathroom and saying to his mom "look mom I have blue poop." I love to put my wife in situations when she knows she shouldn't laugh to encourage my son's behavior but are almost impossible not to. By the way, I hate the Packers. On another note my son likes the song Jump Around by House of Pain. It is "his song." The other day on the way to grandpa's he said, "I can't jump around, I am buckled in. I can only raise the roof."
  14. Netflix is streaming so you would need an internet connection.
  15. I had heard that each Big Ten team received $20M per year from the BTN. On top of that I would think each team received a pretty penny each year for bowl games as I believe that money all gets split up evenly. Sorry, no reference links for that.
  16. Unless you are a chronic offender I guess I just don't feel it is worth the time.(not that chronic guys, geez) I would call your insurance company and ask them but I would think they are more concerned with your credit rating that you having one speeding ticket. I f you are close to losing 12 points within the last year, you kind of have to show up and hope it gets reduced and probably take the traffic safety class.
  17. I think we need to get past evaluating whether a player can hit enough for a position and put the best players we have on the field and arrange them in a way that makes our defense the best it can be. I don't think either Gamel or McGehee will hit enough to be much more than average at 1B but they will likely both be on the team at some point and one will probably have to play 1B. Just because they can't hit like an average 1B will not make us a bad team.
  18. It's easy to say things like "I bet no one on the Tigers voted", but if you honestly look at the situation and set aside message board rhetoric, the guy showed some real stones in owning up to his mistake. He didn't have to talk to reporters that night, he didn't have to go into the Tigers clubhouse. He didn't have to do interviews the next day. And he could have gotten someone else to sub for him. Instead he manned up. Told everyone who would listen that he screwed up and that he was sorry. And guess what? When you're a respected umpire who shows that kind of humility and accountability, people are going to respect you for it. I'm actually not surprised at all he'd be regarded highly among players. And the best part of the whole thing is that he didn't melt down and turn it into an ugly confrontation even though he thought he was right when he made the call. I can accept that umpires make mistakes. What I can't accept is home plate umpire not checking with 1B or 3B to see if a guy went around or umpires initializing or escalating confrontations. I would prefer robot umps that get every call right or at the very least replay for calls at 1B and the strikezone called by gameday just to get it right.
  19. Yea well I really hate the "Melvin did everything he could defense" and attributing failure to bad luck instead of poor decision making, apparently even after that long PM you didn't bother to respond to it's still clear you don't get what we're saying. I get what you are saying, I just disagree and for some reason you continue to think it is a position that people only take if they don't put any thought into it. Nobody ever attributed it all to bad luck or said it wasn't Melvin's fault. We just believe that there are limited options and without knowing what Melvin was offered for players refuse to deem him a bad GM. We disagree with you. Why is it so hard for you to accept we just have a differing opinion and you are not going to convince most of us otherwise despite your constant posts about how Melvin failed to get us Impact Pitching? All the whining about selling high has gotten over the top, let it go Yes it has gotten over the top. I don't think any one person is complaining about not selling high on every single player but collectively every player that has a down year inevitably leads to "we should have traded him last year."
  20. They don't sell only blue food coloring. They have red and green and yellow but if you want blue you gotta spring for the multicolor pack. I have lots of unused yellow and green sitting around unused.
  21. I don't think that would really be fair. It would have been hard to deal him two full years before free agency. We had a pretty good idea we needed almost everything to go right this year for us to have just a chance at the playoffs so we were realistically looking at a team that would probably finish in the low 80's for wins this year and next. If you are not realistically going to compete for the playoffs you might as well make trades that will help you into the playoffs in the future. We knew Fielder would want a crazy amount of money and even if he didn't, he is so close to FA that he would probably just play out his contract. By the way, I absolutely hate all the "we should have sold high" complaints. There is absolutely no way Melvin could have expected him to tank this much. Have to agree with that. The same could be said of many of our players this year unfortunately. Even with my belief that Fielder would not duplicate last year's numbers I still guessed he would put up at least a .900 OPS and he still might.
  22. One ticket is unlikely to make any difference on your insurance although I can't guarantee that. I once got a ticket for 89 in a 65. I think it was 6 points and $400. I have had about 4 speeding tickets spaced out over about a 10 year period including that one. I believe I was down to only a few points at one point. I don't recall my insurance ever increasing. I think they mostly worry about people who get in accidents, get caught DUI or accumulate enough points to lose their license.
  23. Does Fielder get added to the list of guys we should have sold high on but didn't?
  24. If the Brewers are going to spend something around the $100m mark I would rather it be for Prince than Lee. I would rather they do neither. If this year is showing us anything it should be that Fielder isn't going to make our break our team.
  25. I doubt Memphis is being considered but I ran across this and found if fairly ridiculous. .
