  1. Every other good pitcher on that list will be over 30 next season, some coming off of injuries like Webb. Who's a clear cut 1/2 outside of Cliff Lee who will be 32? Can we get Lee on a 4 or 5 year deal? I wouldn't even want Lee on more than a 3 year deal. I really don't like pitchers 35 and older. You can probably take anybody halfway decent with a asterisk off that list. I didn't check into every player, I just copied the list off of Cot's.
  2. I know, sounds like a broken record. But I think they can clear enough salary where they can sign Fielder to an extension and get a legit #2. Maybe, but I would rather they didn't. I would hate to see close to half our payroll tied up in 2 players. It isn't like the available SP are all that interesting this coming offseason. 3. Gameday had all the pitches to Fielder except the 4th in the zone.
  4. Holy crap they pulled the closer. I didn't know you could do that.
  5. Suppan in the rotation made no sense unless there were injuries to at least 2 other starters. I think almost everybody would agree Parra and Narveson should have been in the rotation ahead of Suppan. I wanted to keep Suppan on the team but as the mop up guy/7th starter. If he had been used in that capacity he wouldn't have hurt us to much. Instead he was put in as our 5th starter then used in close games as a reliever.
  6. Brewers 5 HR inning: 1 of 5 times in MLB history Weeks/Fielder first career HRs
  7. As long as Gomez and Escobar are at the bottom I really don't have a huge problem. They are both at least a step below the rest of our players hitters. A Hart Edmonds platoon would be better in the #2 hole but I don't see Hart getting platooned anytime soon. Kottaras #2 against RHP might be a good idea.
  8. Thank goodness. Finally some sanity in the lineup construction.
  9. Really Macha? Cause from what I have seen Kottaras kind of sucks at blocking balls. I really don't have much of a problem as long as Lucroy gets at least 40% of the starts. I would prefer he get over half. I really think he should be working with Wolf and Gallardo though since all 3 seem like they will be part of this team's future. Gallardo and Lucroy for quite a few years.
  10. I agree, grill it. Use the internet to look up a good way to season it maybe slice it up and make it into a sandwich.
  11. Texas would be weird as I consider the Big Ten a midwest conference. Nebraska may not really be the midwest(neither ir Pen State really) but they are close.
  12. I honestly think that we can start a pitching rotation thread.
  13. Nebraska is approved to join the Big Ten. Live press conference right now on BTN.
  14. Escobar is here for the duration of his Brewer controlled years. Maybe. He hasn't exactly wowed anybody yet. He makes some nice plays but overall I would have to say he has been disappointing on offense and defense. I only expected him to be about average on defense this year and carry about a .310 OBP with a high .600's OPS.
  15. 11 extra pitches after that fly ball. Probably cost almost an inning there.
  16. All those extra pitches there are what bad defense does to your staff. A few extra innings that need to be picked up by the pen every week. Starting pitchers pushed further than they should be and giving up runs when they get tired to help out the pen.
  17. Clearly any trade will be a PR disaster, even if it is the right move. Yup pretty much. It will be "same old Brewers" even though we signed Braun and Gallardo to long deals. I would trade Fielder for an impact bat or two if the right pitcher isn't available. It isn't like our system is stocked with good bats right now.
  18. That said, it's a stretch to try and put those in the same league as Howard - Gamel had a higher K% (42.2) than anyone else in the league last season that had 100 PA or more. In fact, it's been a problem for him since he's gone above AA ball - even in 320 PA's at AAA in 2009 he still had a K% of 32.6%. (6th worst in the PCL/200 or more PA) Don't get me wrong, I still have high hopes for Gamel - Love his ability to hit lefties and his OBP - but I think he has to get that K rate down to be an elite hitter......... Hopefully that will come with playing everyday and maturing. I can live with the K's if he is doing the other things well. Sure it is a lot of K's but I would still chalk it up to the sporadic playing time. Unfortunately, unless Prince is dealt or McGehee falls off a cliff, I don't see him getting a shot anytime soon. I would think room will be made for him by next year one way or another. 3B, RF, or 1B should be open next year.
  19. Gallardo and Braun are the only guys I am seeing consistently being brought up as guys not to trade. I would add Weeks to Braun and Gallardo as guys not to trade if he would sign an extencsion. If Weeks could be extended he would be a very valuable guy since Lawrie isn't likely to stick at 2B. Fielder is pretty widely considered somebody who should be traded, at least lately he is. The big question with McGehee is how much can we really get in return? Doesn't seem like we could get much so it probably doesn't pay to trade him. For the right deal I would trade anybody.
