  1. I would also like to point out that fans often times care about more than a win/loss record. If my team is losing but makings smart moves and trying to get better, I can tolerate that. If my team is losing and continues to trot guys like Suppan out to the mound and expects me to believe that they are making an honest effort to win, it makes me angry. I really doubt a team making a move on a mop up guy is going to make any difference in attendance. Even if Estrada is worse than Suppan I'd rather keep him and see what we have. That makes no sense to me. If he is worse why should we spend more money? We already spent the money on Suppan there is no reason to spend more money on a guy who is not going to be better. I understand the outrage over Suppan. He sucks. He is a sunk cost. Don't go spending more money on another guy just because he is different. If we had a realistic chance at the playoffs I would cut Suppan in an instant. At this point we have no chance at the playoffs. We might as well bring guys up and down to see what we have instead of turning over our whole pen and paying more guys to fill out our roster. To be honest we all know Suppan sucks and I really see little point in discussing him until after the trade deadline.
  2. It is actually cheaper to keep him right now. Changing out Suppan for a different pitcher isn't likely to improve us enough to make much difference in the loss column so it isn't like we will be losing out on much revenue because fans quit coming to the park. As much as this topic has already been discussed, I am not sure that is possible.
  3. Weeks best value to us would be on a 4 year contract. He is not as valuable as Fielder but we could probably get him at half the price. All but the best paid 2B are paid under $8M a year on average. Chase Utley, $12,142,857 (2007-13)Brian Roberts, $10,000,000 (2010-13) Robinson Cano, $7,500,000 (2008-11) Brian Roberts, $7,150,000 (2008-09) Dustin Pedroia, $6,750,000 (2009-14) Brandon Phillips, $6,750,000 (2008-11) Orlando Hudson, $6,250,000 (2008)Luis Castillo, $6,250,000 (2008-11) Kaz Matsui, $5,500,000 (2008-10)Freddy Sanchez, $5,500,000 (2008-09) Mark Ellis, $5,500,000 (2009-10) Placido Polanco, $4,600,000 (2006-09)
  4. Macha seriously needs to stop intentionally walking the bases loaded. I don't care what the results are. You force your pitcher to throw strikes or walk in a fun. The batters know this as does everybody in the stadium. How IBB and sac bunts are used they are the stupidest strategies in all of baseball.
  5. I thought Gomez was safe but after the replay the 2B might have blocked the base.
  6. Yup, it certainly has been really easy to be a Weeks and Hart fan this year.
  7. It looks like only one of the pitches by Wolf was miss-called. This ump is doing well so far.
  8. I used to record tv on my computer and used composite audio/video to get the signal to a tv. I have a tv tuner card on my computer. Basically used my tv as a computer monitor. The most important thing is what kind of inputs your tv has. I am sure this website is trying to sell their specific products but it may help.
  9. The best part is that Macha seems to have done a good job selling it. I just wish they would stick with something like this for more than a handful of games. The extra at bats Fielder and Braun would get over the course of the year would add up after a while. Of course the biggest benefit is not having a crappy bat in the #2 hole getting all the extra PA.
  10. Just be lucky you guys don't have any busy intersections where the left turn lane shares with the straight lane. You have a right turn lane and a left turn/straight lane. What genius would think up something like that?
  11. Wow, I can't believe this.
  12. Weeks 2b Braun lf Fielder 1b McGehee 3b Hart rf Gomez cf Lucroy c Wolf p Escobar ss Not a bad lineup. Not perfect but I like the placing of Braun at #2. Shows some progress. Has the best 5 hitters at the top and the pitcher 9th. I would flop Fielder, McGehee and Hart a bit but it seems right based on how they are currently hitting. Batting order splits so far this year. The only really glaring spots are #2 and #6. #1 .239/.340/.388/.728 #2 .244/.283/.389/.672 #3 .330/.403/.540/.943 #4 .262/.392/.415/.807 #5 .315/.377/.523/.900 #6 .294/.340/.604/.944 #7.234/.341/.383/.724 #8 .253/.333/.407/.740 #9 .213/.270/.328/.594
  13. I throw out last year as he was moved from 2B to 3B What? He played 563 out of 697games at 3B in the minors.
  14. IBB to load the bases is an incredibly stupid move.
  15. Hope you were not drinking a low alcohol ice beer. Funny how when I was younger and thought the ice beers were high alcohol. Now my 2 favorite beers are 5.8 and 7.2% ABV. Equal or higher than most ice beer. Spotted Cow is even 5.1%
  16. That is really the problem with McGehee as a defender, the plays he gets to. He has a steady glove but doesn't get to to many balls.
  17. There was Yo for Cy Young talk last year around the all star break. Not strong but he was in the 2nd tier. His walks were a little high though. I also like the flipping of Fielder to 3rd in our order against LHP. He is one of our worst hitters vs LHP.
  18. Except Keischnick is a better hitter.
  19. Not really. Many teams have bad managers and are successful. The Phillies for instance.
  20. Yes you still have to factor in success rates of a sac bunt but it gives you a much better indicator of when you will actually improve your chances of winning than just base out states. When something lessens your chances of winning even if you are successful why keep doing it? The bolded portion is probably the most important part. The only time bunting should be done is when the defense will not expect it or is not playing for it. Bunting while the defense is specifically playing for a bunt is a really bad idea.
  21. My understanding is that we should be using something similar to this instead of basic base out states. After all, you play to win the game.
  22. and a hit is much better than an out. Why put yourself in a position where you almost guarantee an out? Pitchers don't always ground out. Give yourself a chance especially if the infielders are playing in.
