  1. I get a very strong feeling that many fans think when Fielders leaves it is going to be "oh no, we suck again."
  2. I would say that smart teams flip their closer for more players since a closer can be replaced easier than most people think. Look at our string of closers who had really good success over the last 10 years.
  3. I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around how down everybody is on Gamel. He had a bad last half after only getting irregular playing time when he was in the majors. Yeah his defense isn't great, but that isn't anything new.
  4. and the last bullpen spot will probably just go to whomever doesn't get the last rotation spot.
  5. Cut the season in baseball in half and we would have made the playoffs last year.
  6. They have it coming up as a discussion topic on 1st and 10, ESPN 2.
  7. 2k9 SUCKED, really, really, really bad I think you are understating how bad 2k09 was. One of the things that bothered me was the lack of feedback on your pitches. They didn't tell you if you did the pitch right or how to improve. They have fixed that apparently. I wish they would have their controls and another control option for dummies where you just use the A button to hit and you get a meter that fills up for pitching. I love playing baseball games, but I really don't like to take the time with in depth controls.
  8. who doesn't love pie? Me, off topic but just saying, I think pie sucks.
  9. Who cares? He is better than Vargas, but few others that will make the MLB roster. No idea where this comes from. In Ennder's scenario it appears he would be in the pen as the long man. No reason to trade or move Suppan unless there is big money savings.
  10. Would Antone Williamson fall into this category or does he fall into the "bad pick never a prospect category?"
  11. Get married on a beach in Florida. Seriously. We got married for under a grand. Unless it is a big deal to have a huge wedding you will save yourselves a lot of money and headaches. Remember the wedding is about you and your future wife, not your great aunt Margaret.
  12. Those two might be giving hometown discounts though. I doubt we get the same from Fielder and Boras.
  13. I think a lot of people overstate how Twins fans will react to outdoor baseball in April and September. The average night temperature for Minneapolis during those times of the year aren't much different from their division rivals Chicago and Detroit. The only way they draw 5,000 a game those nights, IMO, is if the team is one of the worst in the league (and they won't be). It isn't the temperature that should be a big deal. It is if there is snow or rain that will make the game uncomfortable. High wind as well. If they were still in the Metrodome I could go along with the 5000 fans(still an exaggeration) but they will draw well in a new park. Teams always do.
  14. Looks like they are showing the 2006 National Championship on Big Ten network right now.
  15. On a somewhat related note, has anybody contributed to the Fangraphs fan projections? Chone projected record
  16. It has the Brewers as the 4th best team on offense in the NL so that isn't why we are at only 79 wins. Those projections are only a general guess at records at the end of the year. The teams could either outperform or underperform them. I would have guessed we are around 83 wins so I don't think they are to far off. Not sure how we will still give up the 2nd most runs in 2010. That would be a total failure for the offseason. Maybe they don't hate out pitching. 765 would have put us around the middle of the NL last year. They have bunched all the pitching within about 80 runs. Last year the NL was 263 runs between the top and bottom teams.
  17. Who Dat. I hate it. So lame. Ranks right up there with Wazzzzzzup. I never liked that either. I am now cheering for Indy and hope the Saints suck next year so we don't have to go through this Who Dat crap again.
  18. You might want to get meat market brats. I think they taste better and you can usually find them for about half the price of Johnsonville or Klements brats in the grocery store.
  19. Don't boil them at all. Let them sit in Beer and onions in the fridge at least overnight before grilling them(40oz beer one whole onion per dozen brats, all fits pretty well in a gallon ziploc bag). I used to boil, but I think they tasted much better if just soaked overnight. Then you can probably put them in the warmer with something. I have never done that part. I know I have seen people put them in kraut.
  20. To be honest I think CHONE is more optimistic about Weeks Gomez and Escobar than most BF.neters. It is also slightly more pessimistic about McGehee. If you make some adjustments you get much different results.
  21. He really wasn't that far off of average on offense. .335/.418/.753 vs. .339/.442/.781
  22. what made Escobar significantly more ready in August than he was in April? Nothing. He was however down long enough for us to gain a year of service time.
  23. Right, and he made a change this offseason in his routine apparently. After one bad year he may not have seen the need to change much.
  24. Actually the strange part about Hart is his splits. He had a .264/.336/.437/.773 line against RHP last year which isn't to far off his RHP splits in 2007. He just didn't crush LHP in 2009 like he did in 2007(not that I would expect him to). If he had been even league average against LHP, his line would have looked much better.
  25. On the other hand, Hart only had one bad year in his career before this year and that was 2008. There was little need to change your offseason routine much over one bad year.
