  1. I agree that keeping flexibility is important. There will be injuries. Being able to address a need midseason is a good strategy.
  2. It's a little higher than I expect, but not much. I think that line would still make him a bottom of the order hitter on our current team.
  3. Sarcasm man, sarcasm. Any pitcher vs hitter matchup will tell you basically nothing except what happened. Was Braun good against these guys? Sure, but that doesn't mean he will hit well against them in the future.
  4. UW has shot up the rankings in the last few weeks. #2 in the INCH poll.
  5. I think that when looking at Escobar we need to keep in mind how incredibly low the bar is for an average SS on offense. If he plays up to his potential on defense, he will be a very valuable player even if he is never more than a bottom of the order hitter. AL .274/.329/.391/.720 NL .268/.327/.396/.723 MLB .271/.328/.394/.721 I know I really shouldn't complain because I didn't submit a list myself, but I find it kind of surprising to see Escobar anywhere out of the top 3 on anybody's list. Of course everybody has their own way of judging players.
  6. If Gamel is in your lineup he would be a much better #2 hitter than Escobar. Better OBP and better power. Would also be nice to have 2 lefties sandwiching Braun.
  7. Good thing they didn't use a small sample to make their determination.
  8. With only one out you would still have to face the leadoff hitter. So in 2001 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, up by 1 run and no one on base would you IBB or pitch to Barry Bonds? I would probably pitch to Bonds. If he hits a HR you are still only tied pus he is facing your closer. The best guy you have if you only need one out. Or Ryan Braun hits a 2 out double, you have a righty pitcher and Fielder followed by Hart, would you IBB Prince there? You are up by 1 run in the 8th inning. Bring in a LHP to pitch to Fielder. The problem with some of Macha's IBB, and sac bunting for that matter, is that he does it early in games instead of close and late situations.
  9. I never see movies in the theater so waiting 5 months to see a movie instead of 4 isn't a big deal to me at all.
  10. I have to agree with TLB. I don't think we can put all the blame on Yost especially in the case of Parra. This organization has pushed pitchers more than they should have for a few years now. They did it last year with Gallardo. He pitched until he was ineffective and it was apparent the Brewers were not making the playoffs. If we could bring back Yost to write the lineup every day while letting Macha handle the rest(other than IBB, baserunning and sac bunting of course) I think we could have a pretty good manager. Yost was very good at keeping his bench players ready and getting starters rest(other than Kendall, but that guy knows voodoo or something since every manager plays him a lot).
  11. I would think that any manager is liked a lot more in a city they didn't manage in. I don't believe that Macha was well liked in Oakland.
  12. Don't go posting stuff like that over in the Bucks thread. They get really upset.
  13. Does this mean more "front page" stuff on the minors? I know that there was talk about wanting more visits to the site and not just the forums.
  14. LaRussa did an interview that I only caught parts of but it sounded like he was avoiding alot of the questions. If people start forgiving McGwire in a few years it sort of sets the stage for Clemens an Bonds to come forward.
  15. That also limits Hart's value since those teams could easily just pay a guy instead of giving up something of value. Hart isn't exactly cheap either.
  16. Hard to say what we have for pitching prospects until they has success at the AA level.
  17. Probably would have been almost 4 wins if we had Wolf instead of Looper last year. 123 runs vs 81 runs in similar innings. We should probably replace Gallardo though. We were only 16-14 when he pitched. He kind of sucked, right?
  18. All teams are better at home. How often have the Badgers been really blown out or manhandled during Bo Ryan's tenure? Off the top of my head, I would say not very often. If you are close with teams on the road, that will tip in your favor at home.
  19. Another benefit would be that we'd have Damon for two years, giving us another year's bridge for our good young OFs in the minors. We have Hart for 2 more years.
  20. There are some times when an IBB is a good idea. They are really few and far between though. Using it to set up a double play isn't one of them. The odds of actually getting a groundball with a guy who hits a lot of groundballs against a pitcher who induces a groundball are pretty small. Walking a guy with less than 2 outs is probably almost always a bad idea. Walking the bases loaded is almost always a bad idea as well since you put your pitcher in the position where a walk scores a run. If the walk advances runners it is also generally a bad idea. Here is an old thread on it. In know there is an even older more in-depth thread. This was posted by sbrylski in the thread I linked.
  21. No, Escobar and Gomez are in the NL. Kendall is probably a better hitter than Gomez, or at least has has been over the last 3 years. Escobar will probably out hit Betencourt, but not by much.
  22. I was speaking more about this post than the lineup as a whole. A lineup with Jason Kendall, Scott Podsednik, and Yuniesky Betancourt? That would make my eyes bleed. We have 2 bad hitter to match that group. Obviously we have some top hitters outside of Escobar and Gomez. OUr lineup doesn't suck top to bottom like the Royals but we have 2 really bad hitters in it.
  23. There is a middle ground with the pitching you know. It can be an area that people didn't think would be strong but still did worse than they probably should have. Exactly, nobody expected our staff to be great or maybe even good. What we got however was the worst starting staff in all of baseball. Anybody predicting that was unrealistically pessimistic. If our staff had come even close to career numbers, which is what you would expect, we would have been much closer to a middle of the road staff and much closer to a playoff spot. The only real big stretch of prediction was expecting dramatic improvement from guys and then acting like it was just bad luck or down years because the team only won 80 games. Hardly anybody making predictions expects dramatic improvement.
  24. Do the gift card idea. There is always stuff that babies go through like diapers and such. They grow so quickly though that they may outgrow diapers if you just by that.
  25. It doesn't matter if runs scored when a guy was intentionally walked or not. Just because runs don't score doesn't mean it was a good idea.
