  1. I think you missed a word in DOA's post.
  2. He wouldn't though. He would be a minimal offensive upgrade over Kendall at best. If he really is a Type A, it would be a terrible idea to sign him.
  3. I guess technically Hart was sub-par. He is near enough to average that it likely will not matter. .266/.340/.447/.787 is an average NL right fielder. Hart so far this year, .260/.335/.419/.754. Add in that his 2007 isn't likely to be easily overlooked and a $2M increase isn't out of the question.
  4. I believe he has been caught 4 times now. I don't think you get punished the first time. He was caught once by the Brewers after his first suspension. So you would have caught once, no punishment. Caught a second time, 50-game suspension. Caught by the Brewers. Then caught again, 100-game suspension.
  5. Baseball ends on October 4th and doesn't get played until spring training as far as I am concerned. It's gonna be a long week until hockey starts.
  6. Doesn't matter where he bats. His SLG would slightly offset the difference in OBP. It doesn't make sense to me to make a slight upgrade when we could just as easily go with some combination of players we already have. If Molina was younger or could be expected to carry an average OBP I could see making an argument for him. Why chase after a below average hitter good defense or no.
  7. OBP is always important. The pitcher won't drive him in, but he top of the order will.
  8. That would be interesting to see. Sounds like quite a bit of work even if you only do it for 2 players per team. WPA for each game is readily available.
  9. If the Brewers are expecting a drop in attendance, I think we will also see a drop in payroll. My guess is that they expected attendance to be good this year and raised payroll accordingly. I doubt they raise payroll much if any next year. The only wild card is their new TV deal.
  10. Mike Burns could have been Cy Young, but it would have been too late for the damage already caused. I guess I am not sure what damage you are talking about. Seems to me we were in a pretty good position before we had to rely on Burns and the other replacement pitchers.
  11. It's still only 2 runs. It isn't like we haven't seen a pitcher come out, give up a few runs then settle down and have a good game.
  12. Great, hopefully the attendance spike goes towards a free agent signing. It already did. That's how we were able to sign Hoffman and Cameron. They are maniacs, especially at Fenway. It is easy to support a perennial winner.
  13. Sorry Bill, I wouldn't call Gerut a young player. Not at 32 years old.
  14. It is really odd that they are not trying so little to work Gamel in. I would think that if they had plans at all for Gamel they would at least make an effort to get him in the games. As it is right now, they are just burning service time.
  15. I got Halo: ODST this week. I think it is a lot of fun. I have played through probably 2/3-3/4 of the single player campaign. The campaign is short and I can see how people wouldn't want to pay $60 for it.(Campaign is to short for a full game and if you like Halo multi-player you probably already bought all he map packs included.) Luckily Amazon has it for $50 and includes a $10 promotion towards your next video game purchase at Amazon. Firefight is awesome as well. You fight waves of enemies with up to 3 friends. They don't have matchmaking for firefight so you can only play it with your friends, which is lame. If you like Halo, I would recommend it if you can get it for under $60.
  16. Get better pitching, then it won't matter so much. Seriously, how many plays a game is the centerfielder involved in? Would it really make THAT much difference? I think it would. I would say that a lot of the balls that Cameron gets to at the edge of his range that some other fielders can't get to would end up as extra base hits, not just singles.
  17. Maybe Melvin has already looked at the likely free agent pitchers and decided keeping Looper may be the best option. The pitchers who look to be available in free agency are not really all that exciting. There is no sure bet we could even sign one. I would prefer he didn't count on a trade either. I am sure we could trade for a pitcher, but who knows what the cost would be. It could very well be more than we are willing to pay.
  18. In other words, Parra should be shut down now instead of making things worse.
  19. A lot of those same things could be said about Gallardo. Walks a lot of guys, doesn't go deep into games.
  20. I guess I just have a hard time believing that a 33 year old will get better even with regular PA. I see no reason to keep Kendall over Rivera, but I don't think Rivera is a very good choice as catcher. I still see him as a minimal upgrade over Kendall at best.
  21. Has to start with pitching. I would think a position player anywhere other than catcher would be out of the question. Even there we have 2 good prospects and one should be ready to start in the majors by 2011. We have a glut of infielders. LF is locked up for a few years. There is a good chance we move one of our infielders to the other corner. At worst we already have a left side of a platoon in CF for next year in Gerut. Our needs pretty much start and end with stating pitching.
  22. This year yes, but can Rivera hit that well getting 2/3 or more of the starts.
  23. It wouldn't take much for us to be contenders in 2010. Some better pitching depth and that's about it. Trading Prince would put an end to that. Trading Fielder would probably help us in 2011+.
  24. Don't let Corey Patterson get another major league at bat as a Brewers. 3. Give Mat Gamel 8 more ABs so he can graduate off the Power 50 at the end of the year. Might as well hope for a World Series this year.
  25. Probably a very similar or slightly higher OPS than Kendall with more power and less OBP. Rivera isn't likely to be an improvement over Kendall offensively.
