  1. The thing is that the stat being talked about is one of the main few stats used to evaluate a player. We aren't talking about some obscure or specialized stat. I am not sure what his age has to do with anything. Most people think he will improve. He is just really deficient at it right now.
  2. Other players saying that Sheets wasn't in shape in the past doesn't mean he came into camp in shape this year. Speculation on what kind of shape he is in this year based on the fact it is his walk year really isn't going to convince me. As baggy as Sheets uniforn is I don't think we can tell what kind of shape he is in.
  3. Did Sheets show up in better shape this year or is that something being thrown out because he hasn't been injured?
  4. I am not sure I would call trading either LaPorta or Gamel mortgaging our future. I would hurt, but I am not sure how much I don't know how big of an impact those 2 will have on the MLB club. I am sure they will have some. I think we have to go for the post season this year. Even if we are expected to have a better team next year I would say the same thing. There is no guarantee that a better team will win more games. We can't expect that every other team in the NL will stay the same or get worse. In fact I would count on many getting better. There are so many variables with injuries and player performance that when you are as close to making the postseason as we are now, we need to do as much as we can to improve our chances this year as long as it doesn't cripple our team for years to come. I don't think trading one or two of our best prospects would count as crippling the team.
  5. What makes you think Stevo isn't being objective? Two people can be objective and come up with 2 totaly different opinions. Like has been mentioned by others, Sheets hasn't had any "pitching" type injuries that would point to future injuries.
  6. I think if he isn't with the Brewers Sheets goes to the Astros. They have shown they will throw around lots of money. That and they don't play in Colorado much. I think he absolutely avoids Colorado.
  7. I am not sure of an exact number, but one postseason is supposed to have a big impact on revenue for 10 years. A postseason leads to better broadcasting contracts and an increase in attendance plus whatever income is received from the gates for extra games at increased prices for the postseason games.
  8. I think we will see Hart get a one year deal done for next year then shortly after sign a 4 year deal with an option for a 5th much the same as the structure of Hall's deal except for more money. So his deal will go to 2012 with the option in 2013. He is so close to arbitration that it makes sense to see what he can get where Braun was still years away from seeing any substantial money.
  9. A good bulpen is more important in winning one run games than anything a manager can do. I didn't blame Yost for the 16 loses with 3 run leads and I am not going to give him credit for winning a bunch of 1 run games.
  10. I like the club level. Bigger seats, padded seats, and the concourse is enclosed and air conditioned. The rows are shorter so you don't have as many people walking in front of you at games. Fewer rows deep so fewer people walking in front of you. The atmosphere is more subdued so I like it better when I bring my kids.
  11. How many of the right handers were switch hitters or pinch hitters?
  12. I wouldn't give up on this season for the next 6 seasons even. We are in a really good position to make the playoffs right now. In past years we were just trying to make .500 so it made sense to trade the current season for better future seasons. To me it makes abbsolutley no sense to trade a possible playoff berth for a chance at better future seasons.
  13. I wouldn't want to decrease the odds of winning this season to increase the odds next season. There are so many things that can go wrong within a season that if you have a chance to make the post season you shouldn't pass it up. My understanding is that one post season will create a large increase in income for a team over the next 10 years. I would agree that there is a good chance that we could get prospects better than what we can draft with compensation picks.
  14. That would be a good thought if we had no chance of making the playoffs, but since we do and will need every win to make it, keeping Sheets makes sense. The playoffs are a crapshoot for everybody after you make it and the best chance to win a World Series is making the playoffs as often as possible. If there is a chance to makes the playoffs you go for it. Things could change drastically next year. The rest of the NL is having a down year right now and we should make the most of this opportunity. Trading Sheets, in my opinion, is giving up on the season.
  15. Well I was thinking about getting Sirrus, but now I think I will wait until I save up for a Lamborgini.
  16. The only difference I see is Hart has been HBP 4 times and Braun twice. I guess the only real difference is that Hart strikes out less and Braun SLG's more. Hart is only 52 points of OPS behind Braun.
  17. The Brewers are playing such good baseball that even winning 2 games on the road(4 in a row) isn't enough to bring this thread off of page 5.
  18. You know you have a Brewerfan addiction when... i'm writing this on my phone, so I can't look everything up. Sorry Russ, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw your post. I have to agree this sounds like another one of those things that fans will tend to think their own team is bad at because it is so disappointing when the run doesn't score.
  19. Sorry Peavy, I must have had the wrong thread. The guy in that thread who left voluntarily also got some(one?) nasty private messages from Gopher.
  20. I think Travis Hafner was one of the examples of a hitter who maintains a high(~.350) BABIP. This was part of the Braun discussion in the offseason since Braun had a .361 BABIP last year.
  21. That's sort of how I feel about managers and don't think the next guy will be any better. It is also why I think Yost will get a better job after leaving Milwaukee and start looking better because he will get the chance to manage a winning team. Milwaukee was his "get a foot in the door" job that almost every manager has. After they get some experience they can choose a job instead of taking whatever they can get.
  22. I think this is the DeRosa vs Weeks thread that is being refered to. Although I could be mistaken.
  23. I don't know how I am going to explain that to my brother who also posts here. There goes my Christmas gifts for the next 10 years. You deserve a strike for excessive punctuation. I kid, I kid.
  24. I thought his numbers from last year hitting lead off were pretty good. Given his large split between BA and OBP, I still think he will be a good leadoff hitter.
  25. Looks like an obscure stat that proves something obscure that nobody cares about.
