I agree with that. Judging by the sheer volume of stuff that has been brought up, the Brewers would be 154-8 at the end of the season if Yost had not made some mistake here or there for every game they lost.

I wouldn't be one of those guys. I am the guy who thinks that Yost gets second guessed with everything he does. I also believe it is misplaced frustration with the Brewers current record and the fact people thought we were better than we really were. I still don't believe that a manager makes much of a difference in the W/L record of a team.

Hart has bunted for hits several times this year. I would be willing to bet that if Graffy was still healthy we would see both Weeks and Braun pulled for defensive reasons. It is just a lesser of 2 evils. Weeks plays good defense compared to Braun.

Somebody should take you up on that offer. I would, but I think in 3 weeks I will be playing Halo 3 and not much else.

It isn't like he was bad as a reliever. He just got tired from being used to often. Let's face it, he is just a good pitcher. I agree that he should be a starter. Give as many innings as you can to your best pitchers. In my opinion it kind of sucks that we are stuck with Suppan for another 3 years. At this point I believe he will be passed up in the depth chart, but still get a spot in the rotation because of his contract.

It looks good, but I hvae a hard time justifying $60 for a game that I can play through in a weekend. Would this be a good game to rent? Does it last for more than 20 hours.

I was looking at just errors last week and if we replaced Braun with an average fielding 3B we would drop 12 errors and be about in the middle of the pack in tha NL. With Hall getting better and Hart in tha OF iI believe we cover decent ground in the OF and have good arms. I think Jenkins is pretty good and has a really good arm. We are weak at the corners in the IF. Weeks is slightly below average and Hardy is just average this year. I would expect an improvement from all of our infielders next year.

With the weather getting cold again Wrigley will start to play against power hitters for the rest of the year thus negating all the power in the Cubs lineup and making them rely on their pitching. I hope.

An international draft wouldn't work without a cap on what teams can pay to foreign clubs in my opinion. We would have situations like the one the Bucks had with Yi this year every year in baseball if they don't. I think they first institute a cap then a few years latter they put n the draft requirement.

I just read that there is a cap in the NBA for what teams can pay foreign teams for their players. Is this true? I wonder how that would be recieved by the players union in MLB.(bet they would hate it) It sounds like a fair way for all teams to have a chance at Japanese players since they and other foreign players are not subject to the draft.

The big bat talk starts already. I agree with everything you said except the big bat part. We are leading the NL in homers by a good margin. I think we have enough big bats for next year already.

I didn't want to hijack the "What is the Owner doing right about now?" thread so I am starting this one. This is not about wether Yost or Melvin should be fired. I am just wondering what other people's opinions are on how long it should take to build a team. If I am way off base, so be it. This is just something I have been thinking about to somewhat take my mind off the Brewers' poor play. How long should it take a GM to turn a team into a perennial playoff contender given the following conditions... 1. Depleted Minor league system. You have one of the worst minor league systems in the Majors. No potential All-Star players. 2. 2-3 quality or star players on the MLB club 3. Very little money to sign free agents. You only have enough money to sign one or two 2nd tier free agents. Given these conditions I would say at least 6-7 years to go from a perennial 90 loss doormat to a yearly division champion contender. You have to figure the first year is a wash. It isn't like the NBA or NFL where you get to draft and have 1-2 of those players has an immediate impact. You don't get to draft for almost half the season so all you can do is dangle your stars for advanced AAA players or swap one star for a couple middle of the road MLB players. Your first draft won't even come in to effect until almost your 3rd season as GM in the best case scenario. I would figure 2-3 drafts before you even see much of an impact at the MLB level so you are looking at your 4th or 5th season before you even see much for results. Of course there are always nuggets to be had in the rule 5 draft, but those aren't usually going to be MLB stars. I know there are some, but I would guess they are a small percentage of players. So by my largely crude estimation in the 5th year as a GM you should see a competitive, but not great team. Even with a large amount of luck it would take about 6 years to be competing for division. Most of my opinions on this are based off figuring a drafted player wouldn't become a steady MLB contributer untill 4 years after they are drafted. Two full years in the minors and finally becoming a solid everyday contributer in thier 2nd year in the majors. I know I have no stats to back any of this up and most can be refuted, but I was just wondering about other people's opinions.

Brian... I would say that DM did have payroll support this year. You can almost make some of the same arguments for firing Melvin as you can for firing Ned, namely that while he was the right person to bring respectability to the organization, he might not be the right person to help push the team "over the top" in his role. I would argue that the last two major trades by DM have not exactly worked out in the Brewers' favor: 1. Linebrink for Inman et al has been beaten to death here, both for what the Brewers gave up and for the pitcher (complete with "worn-out" arm) that was acquired. 2. Estrada/Vargas/Aquino for Davis/Eveland/Krynzel may have looked good on paper when the deal was first made but... I'd be willing to argue that Estrada has hurt the team more than he's helped it. Vargas could have been swapped with Villanueva (maybe having Vargas working out of MR from the get-go and Villy in the rotation would have allowed both of them to flourish, but I digress) and the #5 spot in the rotation would have been better. We can go around and say "DM fleeced such and such 2 or 3 years ago," but as the Astros' shakeup shows, this needs to be very much a "what have you done for me lately" deal around here if the Brewers really want to move above mediocrity. Unfortunately, the answer to the question "What have you done for me lately" for DM is... not much. I don't like Estrada, but I don't see how anybody else we have right now would be a better alternative. How was that trade bad? Davis was asking for a 3 year contract or threatening to go to arbitration. Ther is no way we would want him for the next 3 years. He looked last year very much like Vargas has this year so that is a wash. Aquino didn't turn out, but Krynzel was going nowhere with us so we at least gained onother arm. So the trade boils down to Eveland vs Estrada. Eveland didn't exactly make the most of his chances last year and I doubt wold have been much better this year. As for the Linebrink trade, we will have to wait and see how good Inman really is. Linebrink has been hit and miss so far, but if he turns it up for the rest of the year the trade will look good. Every team that has gotten rid of Melvin has gotten worse after his departure.

NOt sure it s love of Kremblas as much as dislike of Ned Yost. That or just wanting something different. Kremblas has also had sucess as a manager at the AAA level.

I sarcastically posted that we should trade Ben Sheets(there were many people saying we should trade Bush/Vargas/Suppan/Capuano at the time) before he starts to suck or something like that just hours before the game in which he got hurt. See sarcasm can hurt.
