  1. I would think of Gomez as Animal since he just can't seem to sit still.
  2. Peralta had enough innings last year that he should be able to pitch all year without overtaxing his arm. I think we really need to take into consideration the level of competition this teamhas faced in the last few months before making any hasty declarations about how well our management has done.
  3. RBI are not predictive and are highly lineup dependent. They tell what happened. They are not useful for looking at what is likely to happen. So if we are talking about a player's value going forward they are a terrible stat.
  4. Yeah the lack of good starting pitching won't hurt us at all.
  5. Why would you if you didn't have to? If I could demand a better job without jumping through hoops I sure the heck would do it.
  6. Rickie Weeks can't. Mike Cameron couldn't either batting in the middle of the Brewer order despite over 20 HR. Geesh, can't you guys just get off your high horses every time RBI is mentioned? So lets do away with it being part of winning a triple crown then. My point was Francisco needs to be very productive offensively to offset his poor defense. That's regardless of what stat you look at as a measurement of productivity. I just threw RBI out there. I could have just as easily said he needs to slug close to .500. That wasn't the point but thanks for jumping on it anyway. Getting back to Francisco, regardless he should never start a game against a lefty. He's never hit a HR off one in more than 100 PA. So if he's the guy at 1B next year, he'll need a platoon partner. Quit bring it up like it means anything and we will.
  7. You think he has trade value. That makes a lot of sense. We can probably at least get something. It appears he has made an effort to make more contact at the expense of making good contact. At least that is how I would read his batted ball and plate discipline stats.
  8. I think we should pick it up since it is only $1.5m. Worst case scenario is nobody will give anything in trade and he sits the bench most of the year because the young guys are better. $1.5 is probably less than they were planning on paying the next formerly retired bench player for next year. Can the brewers be projected as a winning team next year? I think that is debatable. I changed my mind 3 times on whether or not to keep him while writing this post. I could swing both ways. If you look at his plate discipline and batted ball numbers he looks like he is trying to just put the bat on the ball more than he did last year. The powers numbers are down as are the walks while his GB% went up. I am not sure how significant any of those numbers are though. The only thing that is really bad is his SB%. How much of that can be directly attributed to our manager?
  9. With the young guys we have available in corner OF spots is it worth picking up Aoki's option? I have not looked it up until recently but I have to think we can get better production out of those guys than Aoki has put up this year. Does anybody think this year is a down year and last year is closer to expectations for Aoki going forward? $1.5m isn't really all that much but I think we be better off just letting the young guys play. If he had decent trade value I would pick it up.
  10. Wrong. None of those guys were good enough to draw a QO from their previous team. I'm not in favor of losing picks over free agents as that's no way to build the foundation others have described in detail. With that said, I'm not sure what the "hit" rate is in the 2nd round but I'd bet that it isn't above 50%. That being the case and also considering many of those that do hit are fringe starters and backups, a "mediocre" FA is a win for that pick historically. All three of those players were signed before the Qualifying Offer system was created. I can't recall off the top of my head if any of them were classified as Type A or Type B free agents, though. Wolf was the second best FA pitcher that year I believe. He played for LA the year before so I think he would have received a QO.
  11. Tomatoes change color even after being picked. Obviously. I think his complaint was that they ripened faster because they were left in a bag in the pantry. Had they been left out they wouldn't have ripened as fast. I am not sure if the bag would make a difference. I know that if you pick tomatoes when they are partially ripe and leave them sit out they will ripen. My guess is the problem was having them in the pantry instead of the fridge. I am not sure that would make a difference. If you want green tomatoes to stay green you have to pick them pretty early. Of course if you don't grow them yourself that is out of your hands.
  12. Tomatoes change color even after being picked. Obviously.
  13. Windows 8 was made for touch screen. Touch screen should stay on touch screen devices. Every computer we get at work the install Windows 7 if it comes with 8. I think if I worked with 8 all the time it would be fine but they moved and renamed everything.
  14. I would. I'm far more concerned about how poorly Seid has done since taking over the draft than i am whether Gomez is traded. If we trade Carlos that would fetch us an arm or two, but each year Seid is in charge of drafting about 40 players and so far at least the results have been ugly. The main reason we even have this thread going about maybe trading one of the best centerfielders in the game entering his prime years while on a team friendly contract is because our farm system has cratered since Seid has taken over the drafts. Had there not been as many whiffs, instead of even thinking about trading Gomez, Melvin could just grab arms from our farm system as other teams do that draft better. Why can't we want both. Seid needs to go. Firing Seid now doesn't undo all the bad choices that went into our poor MiLB system.
  15. Trout has better defense at a more difficult position. Look up defensive spectrum. Generally speaking a 3B will hit better than a CF so Trout's production compared to other CF may be larger than Cabrera's compared to other 3B. Those BR defensive numbers don't usually pass the sniff test. Fangraphs has Cabrera as -10.6 on defense and Trout as 2.2 on defense. That would mean on defense Cabrera is about 10 runs worse than the average 3B and Trout is about 2 runs better than an average CF. I think those seem a bit high but I would definitely say Trout is a better defender at his position than Cabrera is at his. Without a doubt Cabrera is having a better season at the plate but he hurts the team whenever he plays in the field. Depending on who they have as a DH they may be better off with that guy in the field and make Cabrera the DH.
  16. Anybody can drive in 80-85 runs if they bat in the middle of the order. That is why RBI is such a bad stat.
  17. I used to think our manager might be good for a young team. The last month has changed my minf. I had hoped the manager would at some point play a younger guy over Yuni. We keep trotting out old "experienced" crappy guys unless there is no other choice.
  18. I would vote Traout since he is the second best player this year. The second best player won last year so turnabout is fair play.
  19. I can't wait till Braun's production starts to decline(because of age) and it gets blamed on him now being"clean." I remember how it looked at the end of last year. Seemed like we had a few good young pitchers then. Still not optimistic about next year.
  20. Which just goes to show why you shouldn't use small samples. Looking at this one could conclude we are a better team without Braun but that would be ridiculous.
  21. It shouldn't but it does and will continue until the rise of the robot overlords, I mean umpires.
  22. I don't add anything to corn on the cob. We don't have a salt shaker in our house. The only salt added gets added when a dish is made. Of course we probably counteract that with to many processed foods.
  23. I had heard the SSD are still not as reliable as a regular hard drive.
  24. Unless you are doing heavy gaming or video editing you shouldn't have to spend anywhere near $1500. I think screen size will drive the weight and battery life quite a bit. Shoot for at least 8GB RAM.
