  1. Actually, Scooter had the most fan reaction after being announced of all the Brewers players at last night's game. He easily drew the most applause by far. Right but how many of those showed up just because of Scooter? 2423. I took a poll. One person in the 10 I talked to went to see Scooter.
  2. I don't think that should be a concern. We are not likely to be very good while Ramirez is on the team so I don't think losing a couple more games a year will mean much. Even with Ramirez we may still have to cover a couple years at 3B after he leaves.
  3. More likely would be the Reds not wanting to trade with us. Giving them Ramirez while we are not good really doesn't hurt us much.
  4. The common belief is that somebody in Braun's camp or somebody they consulted was the leak.
  5. Looked like the pitchers were going right after Gennett. Kind of expected given how he hit in the minors. I thin he will do better given time but not a great start.
  6. My only problem with this whole thing is if they skip over the 50-game ban right to the "100-game one more strike you're out" ban.
  7. I would love to see a fire sale, just to see what Melvin would do. I doubt we see more than 2 significant trades. I put the over/under at 2.5.
  8. then name two players that you want to risk losing from the organization. has to be two, because one spot is reserved for corey hart when he's added back to the 40-man, and the other for hunter morris himself. and, if you're playing gm and anticipate trading a 40-man roster veteran player for salary relief, one would hope that it'd be for 40-man roster talent that could help the club this year--not minor league talent not on the 40-man. one greinke got the brewers three 40-man roster players. they had to make room for those three right away. still think hunter morris is a wise move at this point? Without looking to hard Michael Gonzalez, Yuni, Francisco Rodriguez, Blake Lalli and Caleb Gindle would probably all be candidates. None are likely to play an improvident part with the franchise going forward. I am sure there are another 3-4 pitchers who could be added to the list.
  9. Having Weeks hit LHP exclusively is a good way to increase his trade value. He'll do better and will show a contending team that he can still hit MLB pitching. That's possible. I think if either of these moves was made with a trade in mind it's promoting Gennett. They can do like you said and it might take away enough AB's to negate that last option year. One less season guaranteed might make Weeks contract more palatable. Kind of the opposite of demoting Hardy just short of a year of service made him more tradable. Except Weeks' option can vest with 600PA in 2014 regardless of his PA in 2013.
  10. Trading Braun would be a step back in the outfield but we have a good amount of depth in the outfield so that step back could possibly be more than made up by acquiring a couple good pitchers for him. We have a lot of room for improvement in our starting pitching so saying we could be a better team without Braun if we would get a good return on a trade is not much of a stretch. It might be the quickest way to get back to being a winning team. Braun hasn't exactly been the healthiest player over his career either. He hasn't missed a lot of games yet but always seems to have some nagging injury or another.
  11. I think you can thank our owner for that not Melvin. Yeah, most indications were that Boras was in direct contact with Mark and Mark forced Melvin to sign him. I expect some improvement but it definitely is not a given. Peralta has had 2 years in a row he started out with poor control. There were quite a few people who thought Fiers was getting by on smoke an mirrors. Estrada seems ok but he has HR issues that are probably magnified by pitching in Miller Park. Gallardo had a drop in velocity between 2011 and 2012 and isn't exactly pitching well this year. Narveson has had a couple elbow issues is getting older(32 in December) and wasn't really great to begin with. Lohse has been good but again he is older. This rotation could turn it around and be decent next year but I think it more likely all of them get worse next year except Peralta.
  12. As much as I like Garfield I don't believe he is going to be a good defensive C. Offensively Garfield probably has more power than Lucroy in his bat but he just swings at anything and everything. He has very little plate discipline but I do agree that the Brewers are not void of talent at the catcher position and moving Coulter off of catcher is a wise decision. Coulter could easily transition to 3B and I am not sure why the Brewers have not done this already. It is not like Coulter would be blocking anyone at 3B or impeding anyone in the minors if he is moved off of catcher and to another position preferably to 3B. Coulter may ultimately become a corner OF but I just wish the Brewers would try him at 3B. They will probably keep him there at least a year. I can't fault them to much for trying to keep him at the hardest defensive position possible.
  13. I guess we will never agree on this because I couldn't disagree more that casual fans would be smart enough to understand trading a great player for prospects. I don't even think many season ticket holders buy into that. Then don't explain it to them. The only thing that matters is winning. Not many people will show up just to watch Braun. You may take a small hit in attendance when trading Braun but if you get good players back an win the fans will show up.
  14. I don't believe in the whole "Braun's value extends beyond what he does on the field" stuff. If the team wins people will show up at the park to watch and buy merchandise. If they lose the Brewers are losing they won't. Even casual fans are smart enough to understand trading away a good player for young prospects if you are honest and explain it to them.
  15. Offense is better in the AL than the NL. You have to take into account the DH. Opposite with the pitching. That means the Rays pitching had significantly better results.
  16. Playing the window strategy is fine but you have to know when it is closing.
  17. and that was just AA.(except Lucroy) I believe I still have a few team pictures of that team somewhere.
  18. The brats at Miller Park suck. Grill your own in the parking lot. Soak in beer and onions overnight then grill. Awesome.
  19. I think they are a better than .500 team if everything went right. Not a playoff team mind you.
  20. He didn't put the staff together. He retained it.
  21. I believe he started a little down last year as well.
  22. 5380 of those occurrences are since Yuni joined the team.
  23. I guess the question is: Does Seid really deserve to stay if Melvin leaves? Deserve's got nothing to do with it. I think Melvin and Seid need to go. I don't think both will go at the same time. I imagine a new GM would want to hire their own guy as director of scouting. I have no idea how long that will take but I don't think there will be a complete front office overhaul within a few months. I really don't see Melvin getting fired this year either to be honest. I really don't see any reason to fire Ron. Mind you I don't really care for him as the manager but he seems like a nice even keeled guy to have around a rebuilding team.
  24. I hope he would be ok with rebuilding if it was explained to him. I just remember(for whatever it's worth) that he has only really come out and complained publicly a few times. Each time was when we were not doing well as a team. Was it because he wants to win or because the team was not meeting expectations, I don't know.
