  1. i would assume the brewers are on the hook for the buyout since they released randy..if he was claimed, then his contract goes to the birds, but when you just release a player, you settle your outstanding account and move on...i would guess randy has already been paid the buyout
  2. Clint Coulter going off...I for one have enjoyed watching our top pick dominate in AZ...it's been awhile since we've had this happen
  3. i appreciate this
  4. am i the only one who has noticed how good Marco Estrada has been this year? Other than the longball, he's been fantastic--- a 1.18 whip, more than a k per inning...he's actually been right about as good as Marcum... I think Marco is definitely in the rotation---and is a good deal more deserving than mark Rogers
  5. I think Rogers has the fifth spot, but other than that you've got it...Peralta and thornburg when injuries strike or fiers/estrada are not as good as this year
  6. i think the Hart to willingham/Cuddyer comp was apt...3 years 30 million...isn't that the deal he's on now? yeah, something like that...he won't get more on the open market...unless someone loses their minds like the nats did with weth
  7. I think he'll get a deal near what wolf just got...3 years and between 30 and 40 million...or he could try and rebuild his value, but with his injury history, i think he goes for the multi year deal...if he has another half season during his value rebuilding year, he may never have another multi year offer...
  8. i think, since he was released instead of being designated for assignment, that the brewers have severed all ties with randy...so they probably already paid him the buyout, or there was a pre determined date when he would receive the buyout...likewise, they will have paid him his remaining pay for this year... this certainly came after he was put on waivers and no one claimed him
  9. i don't think eric gagne would cost much at all at this point...haha... i agree though, i will be depressed if they go out and sign a 10 million dollar closer...i suspect they'll bring in some saito/hawkins types at a minimum
  10. 1. Jean Segura 2. Tyler Thornburg 3. Wily Peralta 4. Jimmy Nelson 5. Hunter Morris 6. Clint Coulter 7. Taylor Jungmann 8. Tyrone Taylor 9. Taylor Green 10. Scooter Gennett 11. John Hellweg 12. Khris Davis 13. Victor Roache 14. Ariel Pena 15. Jed Bradley 16. Mitch Haniger 17. Cam Garfield 18. Chris McFarland 19. Damien Magnifico 20. Logan Schafer 21. Mark Rogers 22. Caleb Gindl 23. Drew Gagnon 24. Jose Pena 25. Yadiel Rivera 26. Hiram Burgos 27. Kentrail Davis 28. Jeff Bianchi 29. Fautino De Los Santos 30. Josh Prince 31. Cody Scarpetta 32. Orlando Arcia 33. Michael Reed 34. Nick Bucci 35. Alan Williams 36. Jorge Lopez 37. Santo Manzanillo 38. Edgardo Rivera 39. Gian Rizzo 40. Zach Quintana 41. Eric Arnett 42. Kyle Heckathorn 43. Ruben Ozuna 44. Max Walla 45. Jose Sermo 46. Leonard Lorenzo 47.Adam Giacalone 48. Brian Garman 49. Sean Halton 50. Mike Walker my apologies to TJ and Jason Rogers
  11. Leonard Lorenzo with 12 k' through 5 innings...hmm...might start paying attention to him in Helena
  12. nelson cruz, michael morse, trevor plouffe, Allen craig, Garrett Jones...of course, these guys are all active and all on pace for 20+ homers this year...some with a decent track record... and while Plouffe was once a 1st round pick, it took him nearly a decade to be successful in the majors...ditto Garrett Jones, who actually did take 10 years...Morse didn't get a real chance until he was 29, and we gave away nelson cruz in the carlos lee for coco cordero trade years ago... it's not unprecedented at all...in fact, Casey McGhee came out of nowhere to develop into a slugger for a couple years for the brewers just 4 years ago... scouts whiff sometimes...But Davis isn't representative of that...he was a 7th round pick...it's not like he's from the bottom of the drat...on top of that, he's made multiple all-star teams and won awards a long the way...the Brewers think highly of the guy...likewise, in his age 24 season in AAA, he has been very good...he's not a super prospect because of the things you've listed, but dismissing him outright makes little sense either Jose Bautista is not a good comp for the sheer fact that his power developed later...Davis has dominated minor league ball...he's eaxtly the kind of player a team like the royals would give a starting job...and sometimes those replacement level players turn into melky cabrera, who came up young but didn't become the above average hitter he is no until age 27
  13. i think some of the Khris davis love comes from how anti production the power 50 was in the past (i was guilty of this plenty as well) we have often put a lot more into potential (Brent Brewer) than results (Nelson Cruz) and I think that has shifted the philosophies of some. However, a major league bench player or a platoon player has real world value...and I think davis should be ranked higher, not because he's going to dominate, but because it is clear that he will be a useful major league cog...the flame out rate for short outfielders may be high, but its much lower than rookie ball right handed pitchers. I agree with you quite a bit about Davis not being a star...or possibly even a starter, but he has the potential...i'd say a guy like davis,at his peak, has about a 10% shot at being an all-star, a 15% shot at being an above average regular, a 25% shot at being a regular, a 25% shot at being a bench guy, and a 25% shot at being Vinny Rotino... which i think should place him pretty high---I see people suggesting Hunter Morris is a top 5 prospect, when one season ago, he was Brendan Katin---Davis has produced at every level...scouting or not, that counts...in fact, the random "long swing" scouting comments are frequently used to dismiss players with no real grounding...after all, if you listed purely to scouts, you'd know that Michael Brantley was going to develop power, and that Mat Gamel would hit for a high average in the majors... in other words, I think you may be relying too much on scouting of davis to cover up just a dislike of him as a player...it's cool...there's lots of people relying on their liking of him to ignore his obvious flaws... BUT! That of course means that it's fairly unreasonable of you to dismiss someone who says he has a shot at hitting 20 homers in the majors...i think it's pretty obvious he has close to that ability---it's extremely rare that players totally fold at the major league level when they have performed at such high levels in the minors...even the perennial 4a guys like Brian Lahair and Cody Ransom, warts and all, are capable of throwing up one above average stat...Davis Might have a long loopy swing, but given 600 ab's, i think he would hit 20 jacks... anyway, I'm rambling, but I think personal opinion is masquerading as fact to a high level on both ends here...and it's probably not the best move to categorize brewerfan's opinion as if it is singlar
  14. I think everyone here is on board with the Sabr stuff...but Khris Davis is exactly the kind of hitter SABr likes---he's improved at each stop, he walks, he hits for average...he doesn't play a premium position, but neither does Morris, and davis has outhit him everywhere always and the age difference between the two is minimal
  15. Check out Alcides stat line for this year...he's at what we would have considered peak for him a few years ago...a .340 obp is pretty great from a ss these days...castro's being dsolidly outhit by those other guys this year...Andrus leads all SS in obp and is a more successful runner...Castro has homers and a ton of ab's (which is because he gets out at a ridiculous rate).. anyway, I don't think Segura is as good as any of those guys...or at least won't be for a few years, so i don't expect he'll be an allstar at least any time soon
  16. Any way we can pay Cincy to take Krod just to make their bullpen more even for the rest of the central?
  17. you've done a good job here...tremendous amount of work...i think you are giving this years draft picks too much credit and bashing some guys who are higher up the chain for no clear reason....i understand thinking some people overate Khris Davis...but 33rd...behind people like Tyler Wagner? that's a bit extreme...Wagner is 4-5 years from AAA and Kris Davis could easily be with the Brewers next week...i understand projection over what we've currently got, but you can take it too far
  18. I would expect him to be something more like a .725-.750 ops kind of guy...i look at his lines and i see erick aybar, not tulo...could he peaks at .825-.850? maybe...but those guys are extremely rare at ss...jJimmy Rollins was an MVP with those numbers...I think Jean's got some power---but 10-15 hr power...unless you hit .310 or 20 hr's, it's really hard to have an ops much over .800.. so, if Jean is a .280-.290 hitter at peak with 15 to 20 hr's he might scratch at all star level...but i'd expect him to be good, not great the next couple years---.260/.330/.370 or so...and then up from there... anyway, my point was that the Brewers need a guy like that badly on the team...and having him under control for 6.5 years for Greinke is awesome...but he doesn't profile as much better than that...you gotta remember, when you are looking at him in comparison to other hyped SS prospects like Castro, Escobar, or Andrus (all who i think represent better versions of the same type player) you can't lose track that Seggy was older in the high minors...in fact, Starlin Castro is YOUNGER than Segura.. so, I'm not trying to knock Segura---it's just that I think it's unreasonable to project him as better than all of the best young shortstops in the game...it's possible, but unlikely
  19. could someone please give me some detail on cam garfield's defensive skills this year? He's turning in a positively Lucroynian offensive season
  20. if he was 20, i might agree...but at 22, were going to have him until he's 30 anyway, so we will have him through his prime. Since I'm not expecting him to be a superstar, i'd think by the time he is 30, we'll be ready to move on, or have someone cheaper in the wings... For star type players, the extra years makes sense, but for good, not great players, i don't think it matters that much...
  21. Mike Walker is actually among the lead leaguers in a bunch of stats in the Fla league...i'm well aware that this means little more beyond he hasn't been promoted, but he's profiling like an mlb utility type...
  22. If the Brewers keep losing games at this rate, they'll be looking at a top ten pick...on pace to draft seventh right now. Also, we've got that competitive balance pick in the second that won't hurt. Might very well pull for a total collapse and see if we can draft 3rd or 4th...
  23. Clint Coulter suddenly hitting over .300...rookie ball is rookie ball...but three of our early picks have dominated out west this season, and that's a heart warming change of pace
  24. az with a huge night so far Clint Coulter may actually be a stud...this is awesome
  25. i took a foul ball line drive at close range in the chest during a baseball game about ten years ago...it left a huge bruise and knocked me flat...hurt worse than being drilled in the back with a 90 mph fastball, which has happened to me a few times...from coaching girls fastpitch, ive also been hit about everywhere, but nothing beats the baseball in the chest
