  1. Yes, I agree that some of the quotes were getting worrisome the last couple of years before this one. Coming into the season, all we heard about was how he had gotten it and dedicated himself. Yet, it seems its impossible to shake a reputation, even when you are just a kid learning how to be a professional. Apparently giving a kid the benefit of the doubt makes me mad and bitter, so be it. Lets not act like we built Gamel up here on these boards. He reached #34 on BA's top prospects due mostly to his offense. He was surrounded on that ranking by guys like McCutchen, Andrus, and Jesus Montero. Then his development stalled and fans started to dislike him for only providing average offense in 100 some sporadic ABs at the MLB level. I've seen it happen countless times when a player struggles. It happened with Weeks, it happened with Hart. I get what you are saying, and no prospect is can't miss, but do we really need to fall into this trap of calling a guy lazy, or questioning his professionalism when we really don't know the whole story?
  2. All the more reason for a team like Milwaukee to lock pre-arby players up these last few years and trade for prospects right now. Especially for starting pitching.
  3. The entire boards is criticism about things we "technically" don't know about. It's OK for someone to not like a Brewers player and still be a Brewers fan. Trust me, read the boards, there are plenty. Heck, there are guys who hate on players who have done a lot more for the Brewers than that scrub has. Down boy... DOWN! There is a lot of good debate here, and very little of it revolves around speculation of a players work ethic, maturity level, or other things that can't be measured. Most posters here take great care to not speculate on matters they can't deduce from watching the games, looking at statistics, or reading reports from people with knowledge of the situation. Your posts in this thread fly in the oposite direction, and to say "well other people do it on here too" is nothing more than a cop out. Maybe try to educate yourself a little before taking such a stance. Here is an article to get you started: http://www.usatoday.com/USCP/PNI/Sports/2012-03-07-PNI0307spt-cacfeatPNIBrd_ST_U.htm
  4. Wow, just wow. It sure is easy to anonymously sit behind a computer and criticize someone you know nothing about. Remember when ignorant fans said the same stuff about Hart? Now its all forgotten though. I would say it to your face if you'd like me to. I think the guy is a chump. His immaturity has been noted plenty over the years. He's not the answer, never will be. Maybe he'll be a good bench guy if he can learn the OF. Would you say it to his face since that's obviously the point I was making. Do you know a lot about Gamel's training routine? Have you spent a lot of time with him in the last year since his work ethic and attitude has been noted as remarkably improved? Is your answer to all of those questions no? Then maybe you should stick to criticizing things you know about.
  5. What's he supposed to say? Gamel has been nothing but disappointment. Immaturity, and now an injury. It's annoying. He's been flat out annoying. There are guys who get chances and make the most of them. And then there are guys like Gamel, Green, etc... who tinkle all down their leg when they get them. Hart is better. It sounds like Hunter Morris is even better. Hopefully Gamel will just go away, for good. Wow, just wow. It sure is easy to anonymously sit behind a computer and criticize someone you know nothing about. Remember when ignorant fans said the same stuff about Hart? Now its all forgotten though.
  6. This is essentially what I alluded to in my earlier post about where I thought he could be by the end of the year. I really hope our coaching staff doesn't push him in a lost year. We are incredibly lucky to have found two cost controlled ROTY candidates in a year where we were going for it.
  7. Ted Williams says hello.... Williams in 1939 BA: .327 OBP: .436 SLG: .609 Hits: 185 HR: 31 RBI: 145 (led league) Runs: 131 I'm assuming you are using the eye test since scouting reports and defensive metrics downgrade him so much.
  8. He also won MVP, batted .350, and had a WAR of 6.1. Aoki has a WAR of 1.1. Adjust that since I think his fielding is much better than the statistics are currently giving him credit for, and he might be a 2 WAR player by the end of the year. Very solid rookie season, but not a ROTY candidate in my opinion. Fiers should be able to throw 35 more innings this year (I hope they cut him off between 155-160) and hopefully get to a WAR of around 3 which probably wont be enough given the head start Miley and Lynn have. As a disclaimer, obviously I used WAR to compare these players while the voters most likely wont. I simply used it because it takes into account time played, position, and production...all of which voters will look at. yeah, i know, his rookie year was pretty unreal. probably one of the best rookie seasons ever, IMO. im just sayin, the only offensive rookies that are 1/2 that ive seen are Aoki and Harper, and if theres a case for Harper, theres a case for Aoki, too. doesnt really matter, NL ROTY is going to be blown away by the attention Trout will get with everything he's done this year. that kid is unreal. Probably second best rookie season all time to Pujols.
  9. Ichiro won ROTY, and he was 27, Aoki is 30 He also won MVP, batted .350, and had a WAR of 6.1. Aoki has a WAR of 1.1. 10. (sigh) Once again, I'm not being dismissive of minor leaguers and the fact that they can produce (at a much cheaper rate) as veterans. What I was NOT in favor of was letting Gomez walk when he has some value and should be flipped for something.. anything. I'm willing to slack a bit on Gomez' OBP because he does other things so well. But, please, don't take that as I want the Brewers to sign Gomez long term. His hot week is likely just that. You may not mean to sound dismissive, but its really hard to notice that over the condescension. Your original point was that Schafer doesn't have a lot of MLB experience and how some rookies don't do well. Great...now how about we factor in projections, cost, other players on the roster who can play CF, and the expectations of a semi-rebuilding team. Your stance on those issues could be outlined before becoming annoyed that people don't just automatically know and agree with your opinion on them.
  11. That inning jump he went through the year before the Blue Jays suckered Melvin into giving them Lawrie should have kept us away. Hopefully Doug will be wiser when looking at signing Marcum as a FA.
  12. I know this is the "beta test" but I gotta say, the site works better for me in tapatalk than on a desktop regular browser. Very fast and great for reading. Posting is obviously better with a keyboard, but otherwise this is great.
  13. Either he is lying or someone he paid to help him during his closing didn't do their job or lied to him. I can't imagine its possible that he was able to close on the place without being aware of the signed leases...unless your previous landlord was a slum lord and didn't file proper paperwork. I can understand how you might feel bad for the guy, but I don't see how any of this is your fault or that you need to do anything other than live in your unit until the lease is up. If he wants to make it worth your wile to move, so be it, but I don't see how this is greedy of you at all.
  14. Works and everything looks great. Really fast too.
  15. Hmm, I'm unable to link the app to either website. I can find other forums I use by searching or navitaging through their system, but it seems like Brewerfan and Lambeauleap are no where to be found. I tried Brewerfan.net, Brewerfan, forum.brewerfan.net, ect.
  16. Which is why his walks, k's, and pitch speed were posted. If he gets hot, I'd like to bring him up and maybe get him some confidence.
  17. There's been a lot of Titanic analogies around here lately. Has the movie been running again at nights on TNT or something?
  18. I feel like the biggest issue, or reason people don't like WAR beyond not understanding it, is that a bunch of other websites went and just started calculating it their own way without changing the metric's name. Their way seems to be more unreliable and lead to even more confusion. The obvious disclaimer is that WAR isn't perfect, but Fangraph's version is very good when used correctly.
  19. I completely agree with this post. I would just add the bunting and aggressiveness on the base-paths has also bothered me with RR, though I 'm not sure those are as obvious of short comings as your list.
  20. But how is this possible?!?! Maybe but I don't think Wolf is going to be as cheap as you think. To make it a wash they would have to sign him for less than $8.5 million. He's pretty durable, has over 200 innings per year over the length of the contract and has actually produced pretty well over his past two seasons. You don't just average an ERA around 4 with one of the worst defenses in the league for two years without some ability.
  21. Yes, why would we look at past performance to estimate future success. And while we're at it, lets just discount any evidence that doesn't match up with our preconceived notions. Okay, you want to look only at ERA since WAR is worthless. 5.46. No thanks.
  22. Maybe but I don't think Wolf is going to be as cheap as you think. To make it a wash they would have to sign him for less than $8.5 million. He's pretty durable, has over 200 innings per year over the length of the contract and has actually produced pretty well over his past two seasons. You keep saying this, but it doesn't make it true. Wolf had a 0.8 WAR 2 years ago and a 1.5 WAR last season, both below average. Even last year when his ERA was decent, he wasn't as good as his ERA suggested. I'm not even going to go into this season. Basically, at this point in his contract, I would be happy if we can get 3 wins out of him over those 3 years. That's terrible, and to not worth picking up his option when he is likely to continue his regression.
  23. Just curious, why would you root for a .500 season, or any arbitrary winning percentage for that matter? Personally, I want this team to win a world series or at least make it deep into the playoffs. A .500 season at this point is actually detrimental to that goal when compared to trading everything that wont be part of that next playoff team for prospects and bringing up the prospects. You're optimistic for a .500 season. Others here are trying to be optimistic this team takes the approach they should to try to win a world series in the next few years. Don't be a Debbie-downer on their optimism either, or go start a ".500 RECORD OPTIMISM!!!" thread of your own if thats the only thing you want to discuss. Why would I create another optimism thread when I created this one? As a fan of the sport, and of this team, I want to see them win as much as possible. I NEVER root for my team to lose, I think that is a terrible mentality, even if its "for the future", hence me wanting them to end the year over .500. I am all for trying out young players and prospects if its going to still give the team a chance to win! I am not for people coming into this thread ONLY to name call and be a negative presence. go in any other thread and do that, not here. Everyone roots for their team differently and one way isn't right or wrong. If anything, I would say the way I root for my team is more realistic than yours. I just don't think you should tell people to go to a different thread. You don't own or moderate this thread and you certainly aren't in a position to tell people how to root for their team. If I want to discuss realistic optimism for this team winning the world series in the next few years you have no more right to tell me to leave this thread that I do to tell you to start a new one about a .500 record.
