  1. Except of course for last year, when we eventually went with a rotation of all young guys and competed.
  2. Are you not sure what my point was or you just don't agree with it. I think I made my position pretty clear but if you are confused I can expand on it. I guess your point was those shows have better character development so they are more powerful? I don't know, I took that comment as you assuming I don't watch those shows but I do. And like I said, SOA is one of my favorite shows on right now. My point was you don't necessarily need great character development to be able to enjoy a show. I think sometimes people analyze stuff like that too much. But to each their own I guess. My original post wasn't directed at you at all. If it was I would have quoted or addressed you at the beginning. It was just an observation to compare the deaths of two characters on two different shows that I've witnessed recently, one much more powerful than the other.
  3. I watch both of those shows so I'm not sure what your point was. I love SOA, probably one of my favorite shows right now. I agree that The Walking Dead could be a lot better, though I don't think it's all because of character development. All I'm saying is I think people are being a little too picky because I actually have seen more character development this season than last. So I think the show is definitely trending upward. Are you not sure what my point was or you just don't agree with it. I think I made my position pretty clear but if you are confused I can expand on it.
  4. If you want an idea of how powerful it can be to see a main character killed off, go watch a show like Breaking Bad or Sons of Anarchy. My girlfriend cried for about 30 min last night when her favorite character in SOA got killed (we are behind so its not a spoiler). When Lori died, I didn't feel much of anything. Take away the Zombies and I wouldn't even be interested. This is a show that is going to kill off a lot of people, and that could be a lot more intense. Yes, its entertainment like a mindless action movie. It has its place, but it could be so much more and I wont feel like I'm being a source material snob in vocalizing my wishes.
  5. Why do these announcements come out before Bowl Games. Couldn't the NCAA make teams wait to interview and announce until after the season like every other sport ever? Also, and this is serious, what about Bobby Petrino? Basically switching with Arkansas, only we get the better, though morally challenged, coach. Guys always get second chances and he came clean on everything.
  6. I have never ever had a problem or question about my iPod or Macbook before. Never had to deal with the Apple Store or a help line. Just recently realized I needed to upgrade my OS and knew quite a few smart people were Mac users on this board and thought I would just ask here. It has been quite helpful. Same here. Never once had an issue with it. In the going on 4 years I've had mine it has only frozen once. I think my Windows laptop freezes 2 or 3 times just booting up. Oh, its not a criticism, just a thought that you might be able to get a better explanation or help from their official sources. Most people I know who have Apple anything love them and always talk about how you can get help. Glad you were able to get help here.
  7. Every good zombie anything I've ever seen or read wasn't actually about Zombies. This is no different, its about its characters. Since that isn't going too well, its defaulted to zombie entertainment. Not bad for an hour every Sunday, but with the story it draws from and with the network its on I think we have every right to want more.
  8. This may be a stupid question from a PC/Android user, but isn't the point of paying for Apple products that they do all of this for you? Why not go into the Apple store or call their help line?
  9. Anybody played Dishonored? I don't like FPS, but I've heard good things. I think I'll pick it up after I'm done with Assasin's Creed 3.
  10. The character dev hasn't gotten much better. They have had a TON more action and violence though. Its gotten to be enjoyable instead of something I make myself watch to relive the comics.
  11. Bass Lake. Try to figure out which one...I'll never tell.
  12. The only guys who seemed to label Nyjer a cancer were blowhard self righteous Cardinals or blowhard self righteous baseball writers. I never once heard of a teammate saying a bad word about him, even when he got shipped out of town. +1. He seemed like a great teammate and competitor.
  13. I didn't see that coming so soon. They are starting to run out of characters to kill off.
  14. The entire point of both individual trilogies is the Hero Circle. The difference is that in 1-3, especially 1, a bunch of lame subplots involving political exposition muddied the waters. The subplots in 4-6, especially 4/5 were mostly about bounty hunters, a smuggler, and his past associates. Which would you rather watch? The difference between the two trilogies should have been the choice the protagonist made at the end with Luke choosing good vs Vader giving into temptation and turning evil. Though you could argue Anakin was the protagonist of all 6 movies.
  15. I'm anticipating Pirates of the Caribbean block busters every 2-3 years. Terrible movies that make a ton of money. Pass.
  16. I'm guessing you missed my previous posts (or really all the previous posts about this particular topic) where I outlined my reasoning as opposed to turbo saying "I believe" as his reasoning. Its cool you want to jump into this discussion, but you should probably know whats going on as opposed to just assuming what happened before based on one post. I'll quote one of my previous posts, but maybe you should go back to the previous page and read the thread: Why 3b? Ramirez put up basically the same numbers he has for the last 8 years. Defense, games played, and age are the big reasons I say that. I don't like defensive metrics, but in this instance UZR seems to support the eye test on ARAM (I live in Chicago so I've actually seen him play quite a bit over the last few years). I'll use Fangraphs WAR to make my point since its a counting stat and takes defense into account: 2008: 4.7 2009: 2.2 2010: 0.5 2011: 3.7 2012: 6.5 So I think it makes sense to expect a minor offensive drop off and a sizable defensive one as well. Of course he was coming off a shoulder injury that hurt his defense the last few years so hopefully he keeps it up. Anyway, I don't expect his ISO and defense to stay as good as they were this past season. But if you want to go out on a limb and take the over on him being within .050 OPS points of the last season I would probably agree with you. Problem is, that's regression on offense. Add in defense and games played at 35 and hopefully you can see where I am going with this. If nothing else, hopefully you can see that I put some thought into this.
  17. Now we are touchy. Way to stay above an internet fight, I wish I was as awesome as you. Saying his contract was a mistake is not the same as saying "he is going to suck." You are basically creating an opposition to argue with and baiting people with insults while saying you are above it all. Do you have any compelling reasons to believe that a 34 year old's defense and offense will stay at a higher level than they have in the past 4 years other than blind faith? If you want to tell everyone they are wrong at least back it up somehow.
  18. Seriously? Me and a few others said we expect some regression from this year. Its pretty condescending to make us out to be bias just because we don't share your overly optimistic view. We are simply looking at his age and previous numbers instead of blind faith, but apparently we are the ones off base. Sheesh.

  20. Drugs? Have you ever seen a Deadmau5 concert? Drugs.
  21. I was thinking about the bolded part yesterday, & came to the same basic conclusion. The only guy I can think of is Lucroy, in that we probably shouldn't expect him to post AVGs around .320. I think his cumulative MiLB slash line is a pretty decent guess, however: .299/.379/.459/.838. I'd probably adjust a generic projection to more like .299/.360/.475/.835, since his BB rate in the bigs is (understandably) lower than it was in the minors, but "mid-800s OPS" would probably suffice. And that's certainly nothing to complain about. Maldonado might be a regression candidate, but not because of his MiLB numbers, just because he hit pretty well for a rookie catcher & had a Ransom-esque BB/K rate. I would expect regression at C, 3B, and CF.
  22. Interesting the direction they went with Lori. Last season we were all annoyed with her reaction to Shane's death and figured it was bad acting/writing. I think they even confirmed it was supposed to be surprise instead of anger towards Rick. It now appears they went with anger and Rick/Carl are basically done with her.
  23. Braun is an every day player with less injury risk and should be expected to be about twice as valuable as Yo for the same price over the next 2 years. So no, I'm not in favor of shopping Braun.
  24. I hate to say this, because I am for the most part adamant about not getting attached to pro athletes, but there are some people who would stay away despite winning if their favorite player was traded. For example, I've never followed the Bucks since they traded Ray Allen. Of course, I'm only a casual NBA fan and I'm sure I'm in the vast minority.
  25. I looked it up and it was a Saturday. I celebrated hard that afternoon, it seemed like rush hour, oh well.
