  1. I hope I never have an office cubicle next to your's.....
  2. Kendall drives me nuts. This mandate that he must play makes me unfairly hate him. That said, since June 1st he's batting .244 with a .325 obp. While that's not very good, it's also not completely wretched. So I think you have to be careful about signing some other veteran free agent. Zaun is 3 years older and though he has a titch more power, he really isn't much of an upgrade. If the choice is between Kendall and some tired vet like Zaun, then it's probably better to go with the devil you know. If you think Salome can adequately catch 100 games next year, hit .244/.325 with some improved slugging numbers, then you go with him.
  3. I'm confident Cameron would get a raise if he accepted arbitration. He's had two solid seasons here, so will probably be looking for a 2 year deal with an option and will probably get it. Looper should be able to get a 2 year deal from someone. I hope it's not Milwaukee, but I wouldn't mind if the mutual option was picked up for another year. I'm pretty scared Kendall will be back simply because Salome failed to assert himself in AAA. Definitely offer Hoffman arbitration!
  4. Pretty sure 2010's infielders will be Prince, Rickie, Escobar, Gamel, McGehee, and Counsell. That covers all bases, (pun intended), relatively cheaply, provides good righty/lefty matchups, and adequately covers injuries.
  5. The poster described his surgery which was similar to Hart's procedure. It was only a medium sized paragraph. Basically he said it takes a week to return to a desk job, but 3 weeks or more for more strenuous work.
  6. I agree yo and bruce, the Reds' strategy at the dealine was elusive to me. Good analysis of the losers on your blog, yo. With Volquez going under the knife and projected to miss all of 2010, the Reds should have chucked this season and unloaded all the veterans they could. It's silly Harang and Arroyo are still on the team, assuming there were offers for these guys.
  7. Ok, thanks. Actually, it was a pretty informative and not that long. Some people have short attention spans, I guess.
  8. What's this referring to? And what happened to the post that was at the top of page 3 yesterday>?
  9. I don't know if you can blame Dusty this time. Between the minors and Texas in 2007 he pitched 178 innings. Last year with Dusty it was 196. He had three games in September when the pitch count was around 120( 117, 119, and 121 in consecutive Sept. starts--what were you playing for Dusty?!?!?) This year's pitch counts seemed reasonable.
  10. I like the idea of Hall for Johjima, but I bet Jack Z wouldn't. Having Kenji for a year means we could dump Kendall once and for all, plus give Salome and LuCroy another season in the minors to assert themselves. Hall would be useful on the Mariners as well, but Kenji has more value right now. Which means the Brewers would have to throw someone else in. Then it wouldn't be worth it.
  11. I like Zaun, but rather than switch gears they'll just invite Kendall back for another year of tepid play.
  12. Hardy is a great fit for Baltimore. But Andy MacPhail has proven to drive a hard bargain when it comes to trades. Maybe Hardy alone won't get Tillman, Arrieta, or Matusz, but David Hernandez or Troy Patton might be possibilities. McGehee could be a nice fit for the O's too, with Mora gone after the season. Supposedly the Cubs almost got Roberts again this trade deadline. Casey could be good insurance if Angelos ever agrees to part with his favorite player.
  13. not necessarily. Look at the arm the Pirates acquired for Freddie Sanchez, who is not as good of a palyer as JJ Hardy. Depends on a team's specific needs as much as anything. A Braun or Fielder package would net a top of the rotation starter amongst a litany of other top tier prospects. Actually, the Sanchez trade proves my point. Sanchez netted a very good 20 year old pitcher who just made it AA this summer. I guess I didn't make my point well. I see Hardy bringing someone like Tim Alderson and maybe another player or two in the high minors who doesn't have Alderson's upside. I don't see Hardy bringing a Gallardo type pitcher who is part of the Opening Day 2010 rotation. To get someone at that talent level they will be coming from A or AA ball with the chance of making the team in late 2010 or 2011.
  14. This site: http://www.johnmuirhealth...paroscopic_appendix.html explains the procedure and the follow up,"What can I Expect After Surgery?" Playing RF ain't no desk job, so it sounds like 4 weeks to me. Even though the surgery is minimally invasive there are still stitches to remove and incisions that need plenty of time to heal. I'm guessing diving catches in RF and headfirst slides into 2B wouldn't be recommended for several weeks.
  15. You have to trade Fielder or Braun to get a package that includes a young major league top of the rotation starter. Trading Hardy, Hart, or McGehee most likely will net some major league ready non star position player and a couple good prospects, including, hopefully, at least one hard throwing pitcher.
  16. Lopez is having a fine season but there is no reason to keep him around.
  17. In a perfect world you could trade Weeks for young pitching and put Casey at 2B. Even if he does revert back to minor league numbers he'd still be an asset at 2B. Put McGehee in a corner OF spot or 3B and that .741 minor league career OPS isn't going to work very well.
  18. Hall's had 4 hits in 14 at bats with 4 K's and one walk in AAA. That doesn't tell me anything about his "improved" approach.
  19. I thought Jocketty and Rolen hated each other....
  20. I doubt much time was wasted. Wasn't Vargas put on waivers or about to be to make room for Sherrill? Most likely Doug called up Ned, told him he'd offer a good organizational soldier for Vargas and the Dodgers said, sounds good. Part of this is Doug releasing Vinny as a favor because he no longer has a future with the Brewers. Thinking this is supposed to be a "deadline" deal is silly. It's not. This neither guarantees the playoffs nor throws away the season.
  21. Wow, a guy leaves for lunch and a 75 post topic magically appears! There's nothing wrong with this trade at all. This isn't about a playoff run; they need bullpen help and Vargas isn't terrible. At least not every appearance. If they're not getting Halladay, then I don't want a trade of good prospects for some maudlin pitcher like Randy Wolfe who won't take them to the playoffs anyway. How cool would it be for Vinny if he makes the playoff roster as the 25th man and winds up with a ring? Good luck Vinny! If this trade was done any of the other 11 months of the year, everyone here would be on board, figuring what can it hurt and depth is always good in pitching.
  22. Luke French is a big lefty, major league ready as a 3 or 4 starter, I'd guess. Robles is youngster with a 10K per 9 ip K rate in the minors. A 20 year old lefty still in A ball, he's thrown 111 K's in 91 innings so far this year. That's Yovanni type K rate. Looks like a good trade for Jack Z. He gets a cheap innings eater immediately, and a strike throwing prospect with upside down the line.
  23. I hope they make the World Series just so Tim McCarver can tell the World Counsell in the Brewers MVP!
  24. You know this for sure? Source, please...
