  1. History man, history...
  2. They got their "dream" manager apparently, now they will be giving him some toys. I know there are people here who refuse to believe the Cubs aren't going to be better in 2024, but they are surely going to attempt to be a lot better. It won't take a lot to compete for the division, as I doubt we can possibly be better without Woodruff and Burnes. As I said in another post, all they have to do is win 5 or 6 more games than they did in 2023, and all we have to do is lose a few more, which seems inevitable unless we find a way to bolster our hitting and pitching, while staying under our 17th ranked payroll. I want nothing more than to be wrong. but the writing is on the wall. Don't forget about the damn Cardinals either. They seem to be hunting down top notch starting pitching, which is what they really need to also compete for the division. Unless we make some major changes in how we have done business in the past, we could easily finish 3rd or 4th in the division (depending on what the Reds decide to do) this season, and I truly believe that is a realistic view on the situation.
  3. True, but it also doesn't mean that it isn't going to happen... I can completely see them signing Woodruff, and pushing pretty hard to get Burnes. (Not 100% sure we'd trade him to the Cubs though, unless the overpay is quite substantial)
  4. Woodruff is going to be a Cub, isn't he? I'm also expecting a Burnes to Cubs at some point as well, I can only hope that in the process, we take the Cubs to the cleaners...
  5. Ok, great. So if they trade Yelich away to dump his contract, you are fine with the money they save in the process, doesn't go back into the team, but instead just goes in the bank?
  6. I only want to trade Yelich if the Brewers can promise us that they will use the money saved on players that will help us. I don't want them to bank the savings to lower the payroll.
  7. What does that really say though. Salaries have gone through the roof, you simply can't compare the last two years of payroll to other years when the cost of players keeps going up and up and up. Of course they have had the highest payrolls the last two years because of that simple little fact.
  8. What bothers me the most is the fact that since we just got this guy, does that mean we have no shot at resigning Santana for another year? What sense does it make to pay Bauers almost 2 million on top of what it would cost to resign Santana? I already knew we wouldn't be making a big splash at 1B, so Santana seemed like what we would end up with, now this? Santana said all the right things about Milwaukee, and since his price tag would be relatively inexpensive, I was really hoping we'd have him back. I really hate this trade on so many levels.
  9. The Holdovers was great!
  10. Kyle Lewis intrigues me. He was rookie of the year in 2020 but just can NOT stay healthy. Probably strictly a DH, but if the guy could stay healthy, he might be worth looking into.
  11. If they do trade Burnes, and that seems inevitable at this point, they might as well trade Williams too. Having the best closer in baseball doesn't make a lot of sense if we don't have much of a starting rotation. The rest of our bullpen should be able to handle the closing duties. This sucks.
  12. It is almost 100% in the bag that the Cubs are going to sign him. Watch and see 🤢 I bet they have already had his agent on the phone...
  13. Avina didn't play for the Timber Rattlers last year...
  14. So you don't think a salary cap is a good idea then?
  15. Yup, and I'm happy to be done with him to be honest, however, I'd rather have him than Bauers.
  16. Cubs will pick him up, and he'll mash 40 HRs. 🤢
  17. but Taylor is sooooo much better than Bauers, it just makes no sense.
  18. I don't think Bauers is a back-up, I think he is even lower than that. If we go into the season with this chump starting at DH, 1B or OF, it's a travesty. If we go into the season with this chump as bench fodder, it is also a travesty. This guy should be nowhere near our opening day roster, but it sure looks like he will be there or DFA'd. If he is cut, we just wasted the two young guys for nothing. If he is on the roster, he is blocking someone else, and that makes no sense either. Someone said earlier that we should have just kept Hiura, and I agree with that completely. Pay Hiura 2 milion or Bauers? We already know what Bauers brings, which ain't much, but since Hiura was in the doghouse last season, we have no idea what he could have brought us. Meh.
  19. God, so we just have to have another guy like Rowdy on the roster, but we can't afford Rowdy, so we go out and get another Rowdy for cheaper? Talk about setting the bar low, REALLY low. They must really think Avina is pretty much worthless and is never going to amount to anything.......ever. Bauers is probably as shocked as anyone. Again, gross.
  20. Why would we want a non hitting outfielder when OF is probably the least of our needs? C'mon man. Gross. A needle moving trade if ever there has been one.
  21. Brewers signed INF Yonny Hernández to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Hernández spent the the 2023 season in the Dodgers’ organization, appearing in 14 games in the majors and hitting .252/.395/.342 with four homers and 17 steals over 93 games in Triple-A. The 25-year-old could be in the mix for a utility role in the spring. Transaction 1h ago Source: Robert Murray
