  1. Brewers signed C Reese McGuire to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
  2. The Brewers had been eyeing McGuire as a backup for William Contreras, and he may still win that job, but the team has not committed an MLB contract to him as of yet. The 30-year-old hit .226/.245/.444 in 140 plate appearances for the Cubs last season but continued to post positive framing grades behind the plate, which we know the Brewers value.
  3. I'd trade him for a legit bat at 3B or OF, other than that, for his price, it makes sense to hold on to him. The injury bothers me though...
  4. It will be interesting to see how it does in the US. I wouldn't expect democrats to be lining up outside the theater, but I'd think it would do pretty well with republican women...
  5. Curious where you think Fischer and Wilken would factor in this situation...Not to mention Pena. Man, we are loaded (but I think we could be better in 2 of the 3 OF spots) Is it possible that Fischer or Pena get moved to the OF in the future?
  6. Not a chance that Made or Pratt start out in Appleton in 2026.
  7. Poor defense, high strikeout rate... Not perfect, but he would bring the long ball! I'm totally not willing to pay his price though.
  8. Uh oh... Sitting down with popcorn to see where this goes...
  9. Bader seems like a douche, glad I don't have to root for him...
  10. According to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Brewers INF prospect Jett Williams said that shortstop “will be his focus heading into spring training.” Williams was just acquired from the Mets as part of the Freddy Peralta trade last week. The 22-year-old also has experience at second base and center field and is “pretty comfortable at all three positions now,” but he’ll begin his Brewers career playing shortstop. That means that current starting shortstop Joey Ortiz, who was also acquired for a pending free agent starting pitcher, is on notice. Williams hit .262/.363/.465 with 17 homers and 34 steals between Double- and Triple-A last year and could push for MLB at-bats if he gets off to a strong start in Triple-A. Source: Todd Rosiak
  11. If last year proved anything, it was that you simply can not have enough SP depth. I think we will sign someone from that list, but probably not the guys most of us would like to see signed. Quintana makes a lot of sense, we are familiar with him, and him with us, so seems to be a good fit. I'd LOVE to grab Scherzer if I had a say in it... NO CLUE what he'd cost though. Probably more than we are willing to pony up.
  12. I have yet to see that, and I'm a fan of the first three, yes, I said it, even the third movie...
  13. Could Wisconsin be the new AA team rather than Wilson? The T-Rats being right up the road from Milwaukee, might lend an even better hand at rehabbing Brewers players during the season.
  14. It is entirely possible that the one position we never seem to have an answer at, is going to meet with a logjam of talent in the very near future. Fischer, Adams and Burke all look like legit prospects at 1B. It's a good problem to have, however, it appears that all 3 may not have a back-up position, so they all can't stay... I suppose you could add Wilken to that group as well, but it seems he might stay at 3B? I'm really hoping Fischer can stick at 3B to alleviate that problem though. Wilken should break into the majors before Fischer, but not by much.
  15. I think it's too bad he let SD off the hook of that stupid contract that would have ran until he was 42 years old... Yeah, it's great he knows when he's done, but the fact that SD thought it made sense to give him a contract that ran until he was 42, and now are going to get out of it is irritating. Make them pay for their stupidity
  16. Well, not defending anyone here, but how do you know we had multiple offers? I know it was reported that many teams were interested, but that doesn't mean that actual offers were made by other teams. I would assume that at least one other team probably actually made an offer which included names, but again, we don't know that for sure.
  17. The Brewers are “involved on” free agent Reese McGuire, according to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo. That makes sense. The Brewers only need a cheap backup with William Contreras in house and Jeferson Quero hopefully ready to step in if disaster strikes, and McGuire is a plus defender, if nothing else. He hit .226/.245/.444 in 140 plate appearances for the Cubs last season. Milwaukee Brewers 19m ago Source: Chris Cotillo
  18. That thread did get seriously off topic, but usually when that happens, it is corrected, and the thread lives on...
  19. Was going to add this to the "Off season around the league" thread, but it has been mysteriously locked down.
  20. Found this interesting, if true... I'm assuming that with the Peralta trade, we are probably actually in the negative now.
  21. I do think that Jett's size does play a factor in a lot of things defensively. So, pretend he's a great SS, how many balls get passed him that a great SS that is 6" or taller get to? How many times does he make a great outstretched play, but a normal sized SS makes with ease? If we are giving up 6" or more with every play from a tiny SS (who is playing next to a very short 3B in Durbin I might add) it has to have an effect on the game, defensively. Seriously, having Durbin and Williams on the left side of the infield gives up a lot defensively when both players are severely hampered by their size. That simply can't be argued. I'm going to bet that we would have the shortest combination on the left side of any team in MLB, maybe even in the history of MLB. lol There are so many instances in a baseball game where having a good reach is a definite benefit, especially when it comes to IF play. It's called a game of inches for a reason. Pretend he's a great CF, as some here have eluded to, how many balls is he unable to get to because he is 5 to 9 inches shorter than most CF... His size does play a part in his/our success. I like the guy, I hope he is a complete and total stud, and that in a couple of years, we are still talking about how we fleeced Stearns and the Mets with the trade, but dismissing his size completely isn't looking at the entire picture. I trust that Arnold explored all his options, and in his opinion, this one benefitted us the most. So here's to hoping that Jett and Sproat fit right in, and we have 2 more valuable pieces to our puzzle for years to come.
  22. Of course not, the Brewers would never trade prospect capital like that for a one year starting pitcher. That's not how they roll...
  23. Cortes and Quintana still available...
  24. If there is a lock-out, doesn't that mean that the minor league teams are also locked out?
  25. YES, yes it is...
