  1. I'd rather be giving up runs than walks any day. Okay by me if the Crew sends him down.
  2. Football is now year round, and has declared baseball illegal. Lambeau Field has relocated to Waukesha County where it should be. For most of us it ceases to matter because in the name of efficiency we all work 80 hour weeks to compete with foreign workers. But help is on the way, government, now run by international conglomerates, install the first version of the Matrix. Ahhh...sweet relief.
  3. Takes one to know one.
  4. I was kinda hoping that Gagne would only talk in French this season. But seriously, being ugly is a part of being a closer. I'd be leary of signing a good looking closer.
  5. I like his attitude and his sense of realism. He understands risks and the position he's put himself and the Brewers. I do agree if he gets 200 innings or more he's gonna have a dynamite year.
  6. What an idiot. Why can't we have something that at least approximates the truth. Yes, the Cubs will probably win the division, but unless there's some major injuries on the Crew it's gonna be close. What's wrong with saying that. I just don't get it. It's an insult to Cub fans if you think about too.
  7. I'm kind of indifferent to the old uniforms which I thought were ugly. However I think it's good to remember stuff; baseball is about history. I'd commerate the old uniforms from all the past Milwaukee teams including Braves, Brewers, Bears, etc. I'd like to commerate the Barrell guy, and Bonnie Brewer, etc. I'd sprinkle them throughout the stadium on walls, on the scoreboards, heck I'd like to see the grass cut ocassionally in the Pilot's old logo or Earl Gillespie's face. Little things like that would be cool in my book. I know a lot of it would be time comsuming, but it would tell a story about the franchise and baseball in Milwaukee. Didn't I hear that the original Brewers became the Baltimore Orioles or the St. Louis Browns. If true, I think the casual fan and the young fan should be encouraged to know such things.
  8. I respectfully disagree. I do think there are at least ten of us who could manage the Yankees better than Cashman has. Lets not sell ourselves short here boys and girls. Many of us work at complex jobs that carry responsiblity, but very few of us have the support and infrastructure to handle the complexities. Cashman has enormous resources at his disposal--both in monies and people. In the case of the Brewers think about how Ash and Jack Z. make things easier and more efficient. Now I'm not saying there's not a legitmate counterpoint here, but there's also a ton of hyper intelligent Brewerfan members who not only understand baseball but also have a mix of savvy and common sense that a GM needs.
  9. If this signing is a threat to Crazy Joe then I don't like it one bit, no sir.
  10. I think there's a lot to be said for the above quote. Large market, high payroll teams should be compared just as small market, low payroll teams. Given this it's pretty easy to figure out that there's probably ten guys here on Brewerfan.net that could've done just as well with Cashman's payroll.
  11. If he would have quantified his accusations with other examples then I suppose he would have had a point. Otherwise it's an entertaining diatribe--good stuff, but probably unimportant.
  12. Personally, I'm really glad they're rasing these prices and not ticket prices. I can't afford to park or eat at the stadium, and I'm glad there is room at the park for someone with my income. The walk is a long one but it's good exercise, and allowing me to bring in snacks helps the kids make it feel special.
  13. He and Gallardo were.... and then.... kinky stuff
  14. I wonder if there's not a new unwritten baseball. "If you want me long term, you better buy me out short term." I wonder how many of these "little" contracts the Brewers could dole out. And if this is the new unwritten rule, then the Crew would seem to be on the hook for at least six of them eventually (Hart, Fielder, Braun, Gallardo, Hardy, Weeks). Could we really afford six contracts between 25 and 50 million?
  15. If the Cubs were contracted, then what team would take up the mantle of the Major League's most inept franchise? Hmmmmmm....
  16. Willits would be a huge upgrade and maybe even doom the Crew. Willits is exactly the guy the Brwers should have obtained.
  17. I'm not really hopeful for Cappy. The one thing we ignore is the damaged pysche that results in so much losing. He reminds me of Clyde Wright--heady guy with decent stuff, but a loser at heart. Wright had some good years just like Cappy but then that 20 loss season and it was over. He's got to have a good start or I think he'll be through. I hope his problem was the injury. God knows that with the Diamondbacks and Mets staffs the Brewers are going to have to have major improvement in their starters if they really want to compete.
  18. I guess that's exactly what I mean even though it seems counterintuitive. Gallardo is clearly better than any pitcher on our staff with the exception of Benny. So even though we've got lots of pitches to throw at the #2 spot in the rotation, each one is a significant downgrade. And if the injury takes more time than expected the staff will have very little margin of error. And considering that Benny's problems last year was the beginning of the end for the Crew we have to hope that this injury isn't chronic--although nothing at this point would point to that kind of conclusion.
  19. And so it begins... Our weakest position becomes weaker. Well, at least we have lots of lousy starters to provide depth. I agree about keeping Parra up now. He's our second best starter and there's no stashing him away in AAA now. Suppan's now our #2...interesting. I hope they take all the time needed and then some for this injury.
  20. I think this is a fascinating question. In general I believe in the domino effect. You do something and the tumblers fall, doors open and close, etc. In this case I'm glad they traded Inman and the rest. I'd rather have the draft choices in Jack's hands. Until he proves otherwise, as an organization I'd want to give him as much ammo as possible. If I was GM I'd always have my mind on possible picks down the road. That's why I didn't like the Cameron signing as much as I could--there's really no plausible way to stockpile a few choices.
  21. This so sooooo cool. One of my favorite charities. I've seen first hand how it can change people's lives, and one of my proudest moments of my life is when my own son volunteered on two projects. I know that Braun's family have to be equally proud. Well done sir!
  22. What do you think will happen? It just seems obvious that he's the odd man out. As a starter Bush and Capuano are ahead of him the way Melvin talks. In addition we've traded for or signed a plethora of relievers so it doesn't appear he has a place in the pen either. Making things even more difficult is a growing perception (mostly mine I admit) that his trade value is near zilch, even though he's a servicable pitcher (you gotta admit he was an good #5 starter last year ). Plus, there are other complications. It seems to me, and maybe the saber-dudes can help me out, that his talent lies in getting hitters out in scoring position. Sure he lets in his fair share, his ERA proves that, but as a percentage he seems to be not so bad, suggesting that maybe he really would be a bullpen help, kinda like the opposite of Turnbow who has to be brought in at the beginning of an inning, Claudio could be brought in when the fire is hot. And then there's Zach Jackson. I mention him because it seems to me that if Claudio is kept around for injury insurance, to be used temporarily, then a guy like Jackson could just as easily fill that roll, knowing that as soon as injured starter is back AAA would be beckoning. And then there's the trade again, I think it would just drive Melvin crazy to cut Vargas because it's gonna make him look lame here. Trading Doug Davis away is one thing, but virtually giving him away is an entirely different thing. So what's gonna happen? a) he makes the team b) he's DFAed c) he's traded for a middling prospect at best d) he makes the team because someone else is traded and the other pitcher represents better value, ie Bush, Capuano And futhermore, if we cut Vargas or trade him for virtually zero does it mean: a) we've come a long way as an organization with an ability to disgard pitchers who have some value, or b) Claudio's stint proves that we've made a mistake in our long term planning
  23. Crazy Joe and Crazy Gabe should be our designated pinch hitters (I really don't want to see either in the field too much). If Counsell and Nunez make the team something's wrong--really wrong, through injury or trade or just being plain Yosted. Counsell needs to be a defensive replacement only, except in the case of bases loaded (hey everyone has to have a talent). P.S. Vargas will be traded near the end of spring training I'm guessing when a few teams get real nervous. He should net us a middling prospect (hopefully at P or 3B or C).
