  1. And if we sweep the Cubs our optimism will turn to raptureism! Bring down the sword of Damocles upon thy pate I’ll-fated midget-bears! Go Crew!!!
  2. Clearly some GMs have built their rosters with depth in mind. It is just as clear that for very good reasons rosters with depths are occasionally thrust upon said GMs because trades could not be worked out. I’m glad Stearns for whatever reason has a deep, interchangeable roster that is keeping the Brewers afloat. In a sport where injuries are abundant and inevitable we have options. Oh joyous day...oh, and yes sometimes GMs get lucky and sometimes fans hold that against those GMs. What a wacky game we weave when it is dumb luck that we perceive.
  3. Davie was, in a word, genuine. A true gentlemen, a kind man especially to young fans. Hearing that I was a fan of his he took the time to find my address and send me an autographed picture even though I never asked for anything.
  4. The real wonder here is that the Brewers have options. Man, it just feels good to talk about internal solutions rather than looking at the trade deadline. I’ve been following the Crew since they arrived and the fact that we have 3 viable, young, options at AAA. Well, it just blows an old-timer’s mind.
  5. I wonder about this move. Is it just taking a flyer on a guy? Or can we contextualize it? I believe Saladino is a better defender than Sogard or Perez, and maybe significantly so. With so much outfield depth I just gotta believe this is aimed squarely at the infield. If Sogard isn’t going to hit, which I can’t imagine he will, maybe he’s getting a last chance. I wouldn’t believe it if the defense hadn’t been so brutal so far. Or maybe it’s a depth thing. It’s easy to see Sogard getting hurt and then this makes perfect sense.
  6. I have no proof, but I wonder if the Brewers were always wary of Hader as a starter. He’s a two pitch pitcher who loses velocity in the middle innings when starting. I like him a lot more as a fireman than a starter. Basically I want Knebel and Hader pitching all the Brewers most important innings, can’t do that if Hader is starting. It seems to me that baseball has changed, maybe permanently. The math just says most starters can’t handle the third time though the order. That’s why there’s so many 8 men bullpens. I don’t think we can count on Nelson to pick up where he left off (hope he can, but it might be too much to ask). And given the observations by others that Peralta and Burnes have to be innings limited my guess is that we might go with a six man rotation: Anderson Davies Chacin Guerra Peralta Burnes Then again there are so many options. If Nelson does come back strong and Miley somehow doesn’t pitch like Miley, then maybe the Brewers choose to keep Peralta and Burnes at Colorado for the year with Chacin moving to spot starting and long relief. Who knows? Great question.
  7. Rizzo is right. Too many games, too much travel. I’d like to reduce it to a number below 154, depending on what it takes to run a balanced schedule. Then I’d like to increase rosters by 1 or 2, one being an extra catcher.
  8. No way I’m trading Thames. He hits for power, he has a good on base percentage, and he’s versatile in the field. In addition he’s cheap.
  9. I’d prefer not to think in the old “closer, set-up, long relief, etc” roles. I think in terms of leverage only. Maybe something like “crisis leverage, threat but not game on the line leverage, beginning of an inning leverage, etc.” I haven’t thought it totally through and I still think there’s a necessity for loogy and roogy roles. Anyhooo... Highest leverage situations: Hader, Albers Moderate leverage: Jeffress, Williams, Barnes Low leverage: Jennings, (however has been called up this week ala Houser et al) Loogy: Drake
  10. What I’d like to know is the past history on injuries like Nelson’s. I’ve heard hopeful prognosis’ but I’ve also heard nightmare scenarios as well. For me, I’m not counting on him for much. If he returns to last years form next year I’d be more than satisfied. Bringing up Burnes this year would be a mistake in my book unless he makes his way through sheer force of will and talent. Like Nelson I’d like to see him next year. However I’m still optimistic because I believe Guerra can return to form, and I’d like to think that the Brewers would give Woodruff and Suter at least 10consecutive starts. I’d root for a rotation something like: Anderson Davies Guerra Suter Woodruff Giving spot starts to Chacin.
  11. I love Hank. He’s more loyal than most Brewer fans, and I’ve heard a member of the Ryan Braun fan club.
  12. I’d just like to have Hader for two high leverage innings twice in five games than one start in five games.
  13. I doubt that Stearns signed Chacin as a contender piece. I could be wrong, but then I’d have to worry about his definition of contender. I think he signed Chacin to be a bridge to Ortiz et al. I think the proof of that is the 2year contract and the reasonable terms. Stearns knew that Chacin would struggle and he is. I also think that Stearns knew he would have a good run of games sometime during the 2018 season. That good run of games just isn’t happening now. Hopefully this will come later.
  14. I do think, especially early on, a manager should hold aplayer’s feet to the fire regarding sloppy play, poor decisions, bad errors. A benching is a clear option that CC might employ, but to be fair, Counsell is responsible for getting his players to concentrate appropriately. On the other hand is this an indication that the pressure is already on? If so, it seems premature considering the new veteran presence on the team. Clearly the Cubs are a better team and it makes me wonder if, at least in this important series, the miscues were down to trying too hard? I doubt it myself, but it’s a thought.
  15. I’d guess that a straight up platoon of Thames and Aggy would out OPS a full time Braun even if he was healthy all 162 games. Close, but given their ages I have more confidence in the platoon than a declining Braun.
  16. This has to hurt a bit, but feel good about Hoover, and am really excited to see first hand what Houser is dealing this year. This could be an opportunity rather than a set back.
  17. The one thing I hope this doesn't mean is that they have been unimpressed with Susac.
  18. Thanks for the article--fascinating and hopeful.
  19. I really dislike this guy. I hope he falls flat on his face. I dont wanna crucify the guy but give me a break and...well, I'm only gonna rant so I'll shut up.
  20. I just hate that he ended with the exact same home runs as his dead beat dad. What a joyous fun player he was. Good luck Prince!
  21. I like how Jacob Barnes has come on. 60th place to a big league roster spot. Kudos to you young man.
  22. Anybody think Peralta is so scared for his career that he pitches halfway decent? Or is he off your radar completely?
  23. I agree that the Crew probably lost the Davis-Nottingham trade, but so be it. It was worth the shot. With a complete lack of prospects, at the time, at cather--he rolled the calculated dice. Good for him I say. He shows enough power, and is still young enough, to be valuable even if it's not at catcher. And without a first base candidate in sight Nottingham still may have a true future.
  24. What need? It fits his need for a truly competitive team, and a secure future to a position he desires, and possibly a team to give him that first big payday. I'm not sure the Brewers could give any of the three, though I remain hopeful about the 1st.
