  1. I wouldn't trade Burnes for less than two starting pitching prospects regardless of how many position players are included. Rays would need to add another arm to that deal.
  2. Depends on your source. Fangraphs has Gonzalez at #34 and I've seen some mocks where he drops to the Brewers. Shaw is #18 on MLB.com and a few other places. MLB.com has Wolters at #35, Davis at #39, and Whitman at #46. I tend to lean towards MLB.com just like I lean towards NFL.com because they have access to the most team scouts/player personnel people. When it comes to signability, bonus pool manipulation, inability to trade up/down, anything can happen in the MLB draft. It was a tossup between Wilken and Taylor. MLB.com has Wilken at #24 and Taylor at #30. While Taylor is more athletic (24 SBs, 0 CS last two seasons), Taylor's K rate increased significantly in 2023 (14.8% in 2022 to 18.7%). I do like that Taylor is LHH, but the K% increase is a bit concerning and perhaps he's striking out more in an attempt to hit more long balls. Wilken's >.500 OBP tipped the scales for me.
  3. And May 15th. Take that game away and the Brewers RD is -3 and the Cardinals is -27. Hell, just take away the 8th inning of that game and the run differentials are Brewers -11 and the Cardinals -19. I've said this before and I'll say it again, Pythagorean/run differential should only include two standard deviations from the median and should exclude the 2.5% largest wins and 2.5% largest losses.
  4. #18: Jacob Gonzalez, SS, Mississippi Matt Shaw, SS/2B, Maryland Brock Wilken, 3B, Wake Forest #33: Blake Wolters, RHP, HS Jonny Farmello, OF, HS Joe Whitman, LHP, Kent State #54: Nazzan Zanetello, SS, HS Paul Wilson, LHP, HS Brice Matthews, SS/2B/CF, Nebraska #87: Hunter Hollan, LHP, Arkansas Homer Bush, Jr., OF, Grand Canyon Alex Mooney, SS, Duke #119: Roc Riggio, 2B, Oklahoma State Julian Brock, C, Louisiana-Lafayette Brock Vradenburg, 1B, Michigan State 155: Josh Bostick, RHP, JC Ixan Henderson, LHP, Fresno State Nicholas Judice, RHP, Louisiana-Monroe
  5. Everyone looks good in highlights film. It just seems odd that a 3rd-year college player averaging less than 7ppg as a starter goes #36 overall. I could understand if he was a freshman or if he was behind other star players, but a 3rd year player and starter is a bit odd.
  6. Hopefully Fresno doesn't get a professional team any time soon...
  7. Every other half inning they were in the dugout in the shade or could sneak back into the clubhouse for some A/C. They got less sun exposure than you did. Also, when on the field you can move around, somewhat generating your own breeze and cooling you off. I used to play beach volleyball in Southern CA, and I've always felt hotter just laying in the sun than I did playing volleyball.
  8. No NIL. UCLA made him pay his own way on an unofficial. Nothing more than a 17-year-old kid from the midwest falling in love with LA. On the flip side, looks like they just got 2025 QB Landyn Locke, younger brother of Braedyn Locke.
  9. Braun's OPS+ from '13-'19 were 136, 113, 131, 135, 111, 107, 116. Yelich's OPS+ for 2023 is 120. It's pretty close.
  10. The father of Braves player Charlie Culberson was scheduled to throw out the first pitch before today's game. The Braves DFA'd Culberson right before the game.
  11. If my math is correct, Urias has two options. Looks like he signed in 2014 so his first option would have been in 2019, no option used in 2020, 2021, or 2022, but less than 5 years service time. Looks like Adames is right at the threshold depending on days accrued. 4 years and 105 days heading in plus 60 games, a rehab assignment, and I don't know how many off days, but he's right at 172 if not just eclipsed it.
  12. Anyone else watching on the Ballys app and getting the game in standard definition? Not my internet, that's getting 200 Mb/s.
  13. Remember, all the Brewers have to do is get healthy and into the playoffs. Then they shorten the rotation to (a healthy) Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, and short-start/piggy-back Miley/Houser. Add a bullpen arm and they can compete with anybody.
  14. Doesn't look like the US Open is playing the way they had hoped. Two players (Fowler, Schauffele) shot -8 on the first round, Harman is at -6 through 12 holes and Rory -5 through 12 holes, and 61 are at even or better with many not finishing the first round yet. If I'm reading correctly, some players have only finished 9 holes. How does that happen?
  15. Unless Tom has made significant strength gains in the offseason, I don't see him at center. He struggled with anchoring against bigger DEs (Rams game) last year, much less NT/DTs.
  16. I am absolutely shocked that UW does not give its employees off on Juneteenth.
  17. Olson pitched well in 2022, but didn't exactly earn the promotion in 2023. 1.745 WHIP and 5.4 BB/9 in AAA before the callup. Career 4.0 BB/9 in the minors, so his 2022 was more of the outlier. I didn't like the trade either, but at this point it isn't a win for Detroit.
  18. If this is how it's calculated, then it's wrong. Pythagorean should only include two standard deviations; the worst 2.5% of losses and the best 2.5% of wins should be excluded. As others have said, if a team gets down big early and pulls its starters and has position players pitch, that can artificially inflate the loss run differential. Same with if a team gets up big. That's why the bottom 2.5% and top 2.5% should be excluded; they're data outliers.
  19. I think it's good that he went down after a good game - that way he goes down with some confidence, knowing that he just needs to make a few small adjustments.
  20. Here's a great article written by one of my professional colleagues on the psychological impacts of being unemployed.
  21. I didn't watch the first three innings, but I'm pretty sure that over the last three innings the only pitch that was a strike and wasn't on the edge of the zone was the one that Wiemer ripped for a double. I"m not dismissing the Brewers struggles against LHP, but he's done a great job of working the edges of the zone tonight.
  22. Teheran, Houser, and Rea have kept this team afloat. Will need all three for at least a few more weeks. Hope they can keep it up.
