  1. Jags cut Nortman who averaged 44.1 per punt last year and 45.2 for his career. If Scott doesn't work out - and remember, he also kicks off and has experience holding - there will be quality punters available.
  2. The Yankees carried a combined no-hitter into the 8th inning. Betances gave up three and another reliever gave up a fourth. Then the Indians closer Allen gave up three in the 9th and had two more on base when he got the final out. Relievers give up hits and runs. It happens.
  3. The way this last offseason went, particularly for 2B, you don't think that Dozier would take a 1-year, $17M QO deal in a heartbeat? And if you were the Twins, would you want to pay Dozier $17M for one year? If Dozier does accept the QO, they certainly won't get anything for him in trade next year. I don't think the Twins want to take that risk. The Twins played chicken with the Dodgers last year and lost - that's my interpretation of what happened. Dozier is a little better than Walker but not a lot IMO; at least, not enough to net significantly more in trade. I can see the Twins holding out now though because it's early, Sano and Buxton are on the DL, and they invested a lot in bringing in Odorizzi, Lynn, and Reed.
  4. Dozier is a FA after the season so he will not be able to net a comp pick and he's making $9M this year. If Neil Walker could only get 1/$4M as a FA, I don't think the price will be very high for Dozier. Walker's $17.2M salary was a big chunk to take on - but $9M is pretty significant too and all it cost to get Walker was Eric Hanhold. I don't foresee a top-10 prospect needed to get Dozier.
  5. Woodruff only went 2.2, threw 69 pitches... hopefully a planned pitch count.
  6. Hiura is having himself a nice weekend. The bad news is that he has been a DH every game this season. If he can't throw... he can't help.
  7. Forget Boone Logan, the LOOGY to bring up from Biloxi might be QT-C. So far this year: 14 IP, 12 H, 0 ER, 7 BB, 23 K.
  8. When you get a text message telling you that a package that you have to sign for will be delivered the next day, and you stay home the entire day and by 7:40pm they still aren't there yet, and tracking the package still (at 7:40pm) says it will be delivered by end of day, but when you call they say it will be delivered tomorrow and they did NOT send you a text message telling you that.
  9. Was just thinking the same thing - both he and Kyle Wren. Cut Sogard, add Orf to the 40 and then add him to the pitcher-hitter-roster-maximization shuttle.
  10. I just got back from Sugar Land 20 minutes ago. Saw a Skeeters neon sign in Rouxpour's and wondered what it was about.
  11. The Packers have a complex system, and it takes at least a year or more to get on the same page as Rodgers. With this system you have to draft WRs a year before you need them. They'll get a year to evaluate these guys. The other thing is that they may be looking at the Vikings and think you don't have to spend high picks on WRs to find good ones. With so many college teams running a spread offense, there are a lot of receivers coming out every year and the delta between a 5th/6th round WR might not be that much compared to a 2nd/3rd round WR. The thought might be to replace quality with quantity in later rounds.
  12. I don't know about Webb... he had a short start and has pitched poorly. I dread that he's injured again.
  13. I don't mind the JK Scott selection - dude has a power leg. Averaged 48 yards/punt on 55 punts as a freshman and 47.2/punt on 64 punts as a junior. Put 50% of his punts inside the 20 as a senior. The head-scratcher for me was drafting three WRs, particularly at the expense of a TE. Apparently didn't learn from last year when they didn't have room for the 2nd WR they drafted, had to draft three this year. Likely says they are not sold on Davis and Yancey. MV-S replaces Janis and will need to be on special teams until (if) he learns to run routes. What this draft implies to me is that they are sold on their safety and OLB group and have confidence in Spriggs. It also implies to me that they plan on keeping 7 WRs and two TEs. Unless they are really high on Byrd, I don't see them keeping Byrd or Tonyan over drafted WRs. Barring injury, WR group likely is Adams/Cobb/Allison/Moore and then three of Clark, MV-S, St. Brown, Davis, Yancey. Perhaps they have Clark try to put some weight on and move to TE.
  14. Jackson, Madison, Donnerson, Seisay, and Lancaster... not a bad year.
  15. And it's a one game series in Boston
  16. BTW, "Trade down" is not necessarily the winner of the poll. The question is "Who do you think the Packers will take in the 1st round?" Doesn't specify #14. Several of us could still be right.
  17. Josh Jackson could slide to 27, then you have Isaiah Oliver, Jaire Alexander, Mike Hughes, and Donte Jackson who are all easily late 1st/early 2nd round values. The draft is very deep at CB. Not a lot of high-end guys, but lots of guys who could be solid starters.
  18. Yep, and there are plenty of those later in the draft. And a 2016 Pro-Bowler and a 2017 2nd round pick at safety say hello.
  19. My analysis was that there was a dropoff in talent around #10, and then very similar talent from #11 through early 2nd. I don't think they get much worse of a player at 27, at least not that much worse than another first round pick.
  20. Good call on the 2019 1st - I like it. I don't buy the discounting of future picks. There is an unknown quantity to it, but just as likely the pick is better than expected (injuries) than worse than expected. Also, the league will still be in business, the Pack will still have a team, it's another 1st round pick.
  21. Saints want successor for Brees (Jackson). Makes a lot of sense.
  22. Trade down... (I was half-right)
  23. Washington takes Edmunds (last in rush defense last year), Pack trades down... Or not.
  24. I guess I'm a lot higher on Landry than you are.
