  1. And the home plate umpire had to stop carrying baseballs in his side pouch because they were getting too sweaty. Bill Schroeder said that he has never seen that before. And he's seen a helluva lot of baseball games.
  2. Want - Black, Lauer Think - Miller, Lauer Lauer is striking out 13.9/9 at Nashville, and they only need him to be a 1-3 IP reliever, not a starter, so I go with the strikeout rate. Gasser's K rate is 11.1.
  3. That's why he's in AAA. But that's good enough to be the lefty in the bullpen that they need right now given Chafin's performance.
  4. On a day when the temperature was 100 degrees and the dew point 80 and everyone was sweating so much that it was hard to get a good grip on the ball? Yep, damn sure.
  5. Wonder if he was thinking Listach
  6. If Burnes and Woodruff pitched against Atlanta and LA, the runs scored sure as hell wouldn't have been 73-43.
  7. Look what happened with his older brother. Drafted by the Vikings in the 5th round, they got impatient during his rookie camp and released him, signed by the Raiders and was 1st Team All-Pro last year, 2nd team the year before. Cautionary tale about getting impatient with rookie kickers.
  8. QB(2): Love, Clifford (PS - McGough) RB(3): Jones, Dillon, Wilson (PS - Nichols, Taylor) FB(1): Deguara TE(3): Musgrave, Kraft, Allen (PS - waiver pickup) OL(9): Bakh, Jenkins, Myers, Runyan, Tom, Nijman, Rhyan, Walker, Jones (PS - Tenuta, Empey, Telfort) WR(6): Watson, Doubs, Reed, Toure, Wicks, Heath (PS - Dubose, Bonds) DL(6): Clark, Wyatt, Slaton, Wooden, Brooks, Ford (PS - Slayton) Edge(5): Gary, LVN, Smith, Enagbare, Hollins (PS - Cox, Mosby) LB(5): Campbell, Walker, McDuffie, Wilson, Carpenter (PS - Phillips) CB(5): Alexander, Douglas, Nixon, Valentine, Ballentine, Stokes - PUP (PS - Thomas, SJC) CB/S(1): Gaines S(4): Savage, Ford, Johnson, Leavitt (PS - waiver pickup) Special teams (3): Carlson, O'Donnell, Ozrich Last 2 in: Carpenter, Gaines First 2 out: Newman, Cox Center/guard depth is short, but Tom can move to C/G if needed. Tenuta could go on IR, in which case they sign a guard off of the waiver wire to the PS. Walker could probably play guard in an emergency too. Real chance that they trade Nijman, in which case they keep Newman.
  9. Hanson was waived/injured; he isn't making the roster. Jones is back practicing, so he's OK. Tenuta is still on the injured list and not practicing. Heath was getting some reps with the 1's today. A good sign that he's making the final 53.
  10. Grichuk has a 491 OPS since acquired, Cron 563 OPS and is on the IL. Through 26 PAs, Schanuel has a .538 OBP. Not OPS - OBP.
  11. Strasburg game score: 75 Woodard game score: 91 Clemens' game score, pitching opposite of Woodard, was also higher than Strasburg's (79).
  12. I don't see a TE on the waiver wire making it on the 53. Unlikely that any will be better or know the system better than Allen. They'll sign a couple to the practice squad as a priority. There just aren't many good ones out there period, much less good ones who will be waived by another team. I still wonder if Walker playing over Nijman is because they think he's better or because they know what they have in Nijman and want to see what they have in Walker. I don't see Telford or Tenuta making it. They have enough tackles in Bakh, Tom, Nijman, Walker, and Jones. Tenuta's injury was described as "long term", so I think they put him on waived/injured and sign him to the practice squad. With the injury, unlikely anyone keeps him on their 53. Wilson is forcing their hand. If he makes it, then Carpenter/Leavitt likely both make it because of special teams. I would put Wilson, Carpenter, Gaines, and Cox ahead of a 10th OL. My guess is Gaines/Cox are 53/54.
  13. Really want to see what an offseason in the lab can do for him. The best thing he can do is increase his strike % on the CB so that hitters don't sit on the FB. He's only given up one HR as a Brewer this year. Only Uribe (17.2 IP, 0 HR) has a lower rate than his 0.4/9 innings.
  14. Dodgers are only 4.5 games back for #1 overall seed. Braves could easily have something to play for.
  15. And that includes a stretch of 10 games against the Cardinals and the White Sox where they went 8-2 against two teams that are 55-72 and 49-77. Excluding those two bad teams, they are 19-16 since the beginning of July.
  16. Since the beginning of July, the Cubs are 27-18. The Brewers are 26-18. The Cubs have gained 0.5 games over their last 45 games.
  17. That, and proximity. He's likely an emergency option in case of injuries at this point, so have him as close to MKE as possible.
  18. I would also offer a gift in exchange - something that you will offer to do for them, a baked good, a fresh-caught fish or hunted animal cooked up. Reciprocity works well in marketing and nudging people towards a desired behavior.
  19. The issue with Megill is being able to command an offspeed pitch. Doesn't throw his slider/curve for strikes often enough. Hitters then sit on the fastball. Need to get him in the lab this offseason.
  20. You could do the old-fashioned way and write them a letter. You know their address. If that doesn't work, put a diphenhydramine tablet into a hot dog and lob it over the fence.
  21. Not sure where you're getting your numbers on Houser from. OPS-A: 1st half: .774 2nd half: .704 Last 28 days: .692 August: .566 WHIP: 1st half: 1.539 2nd half: 1.344 Last 28 days: 1.328 August: 1.041 And he's been unlucky - he had a .826 July OPS-A, but that was likely due to having a very unlucky .383 BAbip that month. For the season his BAbip is .333, and he's been especially unlucky with runners on base (.384 BAbip compared to .295 with nobody on base). He's averaging 1.0 HR/9, right there with Burnes (0.9) for tops among starters on the team. I don't see any reason to remove him from the rotation.
  22. The point is that anything can happen in one single baseball game, even three, good luck or bad luck or expected outcome. But over the course of a larger sample (i.e., more games), playing the odds (which in this case are advanced statistical analysis - hard hit balls, xBA, FIP, wOBA, wRC+, O-swing%, etc.) yields a more true outcome and the effect of luck/randomness on the outcome diminishes. That's why the Brewers are in first place with the fourth most wins in the NL, one behind the Phillies for third most wins. Yes, they can look awful over the course of a 3-game series, but the larger the sample (i.e. as the season goes on) the more that luck/randomness gets weeded out and the outcome resembles the true outcome.
  23. Why in the hell are you running the contact play with nobody out??
  24. The Dodgers always do this, and have always done this, because of how brutal the traffic is from 4-8pm. Trust me, I lived there for six years. The only thing that I've seen that compares is the Kennedy from O'Hare to downtown Chicago during both rush hours, which annually is anywhere from #1 to #5 in worst freeway traffic in the U.S..
  25. And three recent top-10 graduates in Turang, Wiemer, and Mitchell who are all 24 or younger.
