  1. And three recent top-10 graduates in Turang, Wiemer, and Mitchell who are all 24 or younger.
  2. They've been bad the last two years, so they've had high draft picks and they've traded away good players for prospects (Darvish, Pederson, Rizzo, Baez, Bryant, Kimbrel, Williams, Robertson). Trading away those guys, they should have a good farm system.
  3. Haven't they been saying that about the Dodgers for a decade? And the Dodgers have won one World Series in that last decade during a 60-game season.
  4. Because the Brewers #5 starter, who is unlikely to start a game in the playoffs, gave up two extra base hits to the Dodgers, they can't compete?
  5. That's also how you end up like the 2019 Cubs. Burn through the bullpen and collapse in late August/September.

  7. Long-haul trucking and heavy machinery, yes. That will be the toughest to move from petroleum. (An alternative already exists - rail. The rail infrastructure overhaul is another topic.) But what % of trucking is short-haul/less than 400 miles a day? Box trucks? Contractors/home repair? And what % is local delivery vehicles (USPS, UPS, FedEx, Amazon)? Only a fraction of those are EV/alternative fuel. There's a lot of low-hanging fruit out there.
  8. Some of us sweat more easily than others. That, and December through March. I vote more working from home. Especially on inclement weather days. Do we really need to go into the office when it's raining?
  9. It was fairly abysmal. But when you're signing 16-year-olds, it doesn't turn around overnight. You have to first build relationships and trust in those countries. You don't just walk into the Dominican Republic or Venezuela or wherever and start signing kids. It's not that different from AAU coaches/handlers who try to steer kids towards the schools they want (who are likely paying them under the table - see: Atlanta Braves). Stearns took over eight years ago. No time to do anything for the signing class of 2016, who are now on average only 23 years old. Had to build the foundations in Latin America first which took a couple of years. Then Uribe in 2018. Quero in 2019. Chourio in 2020. I doubt that you'll find a team who found three better prospects in those three years.
  10. Are my eyes deceiving me, or is this battlekow's first appearance in two years? Welcome back!
  11. They have two players capable of playing a good CF in Frelick and TT, and now that he's healthy again Anderson can play RF since he's been usurped at 3B by Monasterio. If Perkins was healthy it would be an easy call; I still think that it's feasible without a major impact defensively on the OF. For 2.5 weeks, at least.
  12. And they're going to get a haul for Burnes in the offseason. If they can't sign Woodruff to an extension, then they'll get a haul for him too.
  13. Curious as to why O'Rae didn't make your top 30.
  14. Just what I was thinking. Guys who I seriously considered but ended up leaving out included Yophery Rodriguez, Yerlin Rodriguez, Freddy Zamora, Eric Bitonti, Jesus Rivero, Patricio Aquino, Alexander Vallecillo, Shane Smith, Isaac Collins, Matt Wood, Satchell Norman, and Juan Baez. Then there are the young guys who did well last year but aren't having as good of a year this year in Edwin JImenez, Alexander Cornielle, Yeison Perez, Luis Castillo, Stiven Cruz, Hendry Mendez, Quinton Low, Jace Avinia, Jadher Areinamo and Rob Moore. And you have some guys flashing in the DSL - Enniel Cortez, Demetrio Nadal, Filippo Di Turi,. Bryan Rivera, and Melvin Hernandez.
  15. The non-revenue sports are going to have to form regional conferences (or football/basketball break away into separate "conferences"). They have the precedent - the old WCHA worked really well. Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota State (Mankato), North Dakota, and Denver didn't have an issue being competitive with Wisconsin and Minnesota. That being said... a direct flight from Madison to LA takes about the same amount of time as a bus ride from Madison to Mankato. Less time than Duluth... or in winter weather.
  16. Except that he has five years of service time, so the Brewers can't send him down without his permission.
  17. In the old days with expanded rosters I'd agree. But now with only getting to add two players in September, I think they bring back Miller or Toro as right now they only have four guys who can play 2b/SS/3B. Pitcher will likely be Lauer.
  18. Because they still got bounced from the playoffs in the divisional round and it cost them a future career .298 hitter with >1,600 career hits and only 656 K's in over 6,000 career plate appearances.
  19. Helped by a Matt Olson error where he didn't stay down on the ball!! Resulting two unearned runs were the difference. Even great fielding first basemen make errors from time to time.
  20. I think that Notre Dame and Stanford are 1a and 1b. The San Francisco/San Jose/Oakland combined statistical area is #5 in the nation, ahead of Dallas, Boston, and Houston. Stanford makes a ton of sense to form a 5-team West division. Minnesota/Iowa/Nebraska/Wisconsin/Northwestern form the North, Illinois/Purdue/Indiana/Notre Dame/Ohio State make the South, and Michigan/Michigan State/Penn State/Maryland/Rutgers make the east. Or they just go East/West 10-team divisions.
  21. Tom supposedly came to camp ~15 lbs heavier than last year. Exactly what he needed to do in the offseason.
  22. Given the upcoming off days on 8/10, 8/14, 8/21, and 8/24, my money is on Rea as they won't need a 6th starter until 8/20 - Miley on four days rest - but with an off day on 8/21 they can make 8/20 a de-facto bullpen day and have Miley only go 3-4 innings. Then they won't need a 6th starter until 8/30, but with an off-day on 8/31 they can do the same thing and have a bullpen day and/or have Woody go only 3-4 innings and/or call up Rea for a spot start. Rea is starting today, and then his next start is scheduled to be 8/10, so it aligns perfectly with him being sent down.
  23. Rumors of Sean Rhyan being a bust have been greatly exaggerated. He's had an impressive few days of practice including going 8-0 in 1-1 reps.
  24. The Green Bay Packers have claimed Aaron Mosby, OLB, Fresno State, off of waivers.
