  1. That's an impressive body of work for Doug. The only transactions that look bad are the Suppan signing, Hall signing, and the Davis/Eveland trade. Riske has the potential to be a poor signing, but nobody can really blame him for that. We needed a reliever and Melvin went out and got one of the best available at the going rate. It's hard to blame Melvin for the Hall signing. I think pretty much everyone here liked it at the time. It was pretty hard to predict such a dropoff during his prime years. I never really got the public outrage of Gagne getting 10 million. Sure, he sucked. But it was for only one year and it didn't prohibit us from going out and getting the biggest prize at the deadline. If anyone was to blame for that, it would be Yost for keeping him as closer until Gagne told the media he didn't deserve it. It was easy to see after April that the guy was cooked.
  2. It cannot be said enough how many of our young players had off years and played under their projections last year. The only guy who played over his head last year was JJ. Having Hart and Weeks revert back to their 2007 form would be huge as well.
  3. Kotsay can also play a good 1B, as witnessed with his stint with BOS. He's a pretty good backup/utility player for us.
  4. Jesus, what a terrible contract. It's a buyers' market and we're still seeing teams outbidding themselves. They could have probably came close to signing Sheets and Lowe for about the same price combined, and then sold off some of their young SP to teams to rebuild the farm.
  5. I have litttle doubt Alexander is going to be a good player in a year or two, but I don't know what Hammond is doing. Is he building for the future, or trying to legitmately compete right now? He's made moves that completely contradict each other. Augustin looks like a player. He's the guy I definitely did not want going into the draft, but I think he's gonna be a good sixth man.
  6. Wow, that is a pretty bad contract. I'm glad Doug didn't make the same mistake as he did last year.
  7. I agree with you bbrauch. I'm not gonna go out of my way to catch a Bucks game for the forseeable future after these last 3 games. LRMAM has been terrible for about 2 weeks now. He should only be used as a defensive stopper right now. What really irks me is Bogut's effort, or lack thereof. Even though Shaq went off, he still played a really good game. He played with energy that I've never seen from him before. If he would do that on a nightly basis, and get into good shape, he would average 18/12 in his sleep. He played good in the first quarter last night, but just kind of disappeared after that. Outside of shooting, the teams biggest problem imo is our guards getting beat off the dribble. I've never seen anything like it. It happens almost everytime down the floor and Bogut leaves his man to contest the shot. If the guy misses, Bogut's guy has an easy putback (Biedrins had at least 3 baskets like this last night). Bogut picks up a foul on the guy and sends him to the line is also leading to a huge free throw disparity every game. It would have been really nice to have been able to draft Westbrook with the 8 pick. He's a really good defender, and would have at least helped in that area.
  8. Right after the Jeffrey Hammonds signing.
  9. Exactly. (Although Derosa is a solid player, they can still plug in Fontenot and lose nothing). If this trade goes down along with the Peavy to the Cubs trade, I'll be an abosulte wreck. I'd much rather have Greinke, and have wanted him on the Crew for a long time. Why not Hart for Greinke? He's just like Francouer but only better. You'd think maybe, just maybe, Dayton Moore would be interested in picking up the better player.
  10. http://tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:bNwbK-DylwsBDM:http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u69/jesper13/ORLYowl.jpg This is a good idea and I can't believe Axe or Old Spice hasn't gotten into this market yet.
  11. So where do you think Johnson will bat in the Brewers lineup? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. I know a guy was at 24 and lost picking the Packers over the Saints. There was an interesting discussion at another message board. If you were at 24, why not wager 500k with a Sportsbook and definitely have a positive EV no matter the outcome of your final game?
  13. I think Prince projects to be a solid glue guy, whereas JA could be anywhere from just a rotation player to a second banana. Sessions has the ability to be a top-tier PG if he becomes average at D and his jump shooting. Right now he's a decent starting PG or an excellent backup, so he's definitely a keeper if you pay him accordingly. Redd is a good scorer, but with his salary he's a huge net negative. Is it me or can this guy not shoot that great anymore? Jefferson is a pretty good all-around player, but he's certainly expendable along with Max. Bogut is a good all around player. He's limited offensively because of his lack of athleticism, but he's the absolute best in the league at taking a charge, a good passer, and has always been a good rebounder, although the stats may haven't shown in it in seasons past. He's terrific at boxing out his man, and letting our guards grab the rebound. (This happened back-to-back with Ridnour in the first quarter last night, and does a couple of times nightly), Everyone else is too flawed to even talk about imo. The game last night was embarrassing. I watched on and off while studying, and there was only one redeeming part of the game for me, and that was watching the Gadz and Elson 2 on 1, which ended exactly how you'd expect.
  14. Maybe Hoffman wouldn't mind just a 1 yr. contract. That would be ideal, but I wouldn't even hesitate given him a 2 yr contract if he demanded it. Signing Wood to a 2 year contract is a big risk. I wouldn't touch him on anything besides an incentive based 1 year deal, which he'd rightfully never accept.
  15. +1. That would be inappropriate for a "crazy" character like Michael to say, and hearing it from Pam was hilarious. Was Michael sprinkling sugar in his Diet Cola?
  16. This is the only problem I have with the guy. He's preaching to the choir when he's ripping on Bonds. He doesn't need to do it everytime his name is brought up. Otherwise, he's about as good as it gets.
  17. You guys do know that Dunn doesn't even like playing baseball all that much? In reality, signing Dunn to a 3/36 deal, sliding Braun to RF and trading Hart for a SP like Jonathan Sanchez would be ideal imo.
  18. Young can't even play LF. He rates as the worst in the league. We're really lucky the Rays drafted this guy. He'll probably be out of the league in 5 years barring an offensive turnaround.
  19. Watched Glengarry Glen Ross a few days ago. I really liked this movie. Completely dialogue driven, but it kept my attention the entire time. Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, and a 7 minute monologue by Alec Baldwin were all top-notch, and in Baldwin's case, legendary.
  20. And he hasn't even provided that most of the time. He's a horrible defender with how foul-prone he is. Gadz did have an excellent game last night, and as Skiles has said, he hasn't played that bad during his limited minutes this year. It's good to get a win, but the Bulls are pretty weak. Bogut surely wasn't ready to play, as he was laboring quite a bit. I'd rather have the guy close to 100% than rush him back.
  21. Culver's has a really good one. Probably more expensive, but I usuallly hit that up when I'm hungover. I've always really liked the Jr Bacon Cheeseburger off the Wendy's dollar menu. Every sub chain is now doing the 5 dollar footlong deal, which is a lot of food for that amount.
  22. I'm taking a weather and climate lab at UWO, and our TA shows the possibility of a major storm brewing up over the Northeastern states in about a week. While we might avoid the snow, he said we could be looking at 40 to 50 mph winds from the Northeast with frigid temps during that period. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif I'd take the snow before that garbage. Three weeks ago he said there was no warm-up in sight, and yesterday he said the same thing. Not looking good fellas. Edit: Yup, what OWBC said.
  23. Although it's pretty unlikely, I just hope the guy can stay healthy and gets 500 ab's so we can see how many HR's he can hit.
  24. I've never tried a McRib (and never will), but I dry-heaved just reading that. Meat should never be grey.
  25. As long as they didn't give up too much, it's certainly an upgrade. As others have said, Petco probably depressed Greene's numbers a bit, and he's going to a team that gave Cesar Izturis over 400 ab's last year.
