  1. The Kevin Millwood who had an ERA over 5 and a WHIP over 1.5 the last two seasons? He is also making over 10 million this year and would get 12 million next year if he pitched over 180 innings. Not sure why Melvin would have wanted him. Sure he is having a nice year now but fans would have panned that trade.Vazquez would have been nice. I am not sure what it would have cost us but Tyler Flowers the prospect the Braves gave up is a very very good hitting catcher. He has an OPS of .950 in AA. Teh Braves also gave up a 2007 first round pick and a young pitcher. Where did you hear Jack would have traded us Morrow? Very good pitching prospects like him cost a lot to get usually. It sounds like Melvin did look into Peavy and so did some other teams but he did not want to be traded. You cannot make guys wave no trade clauses.
  2. I deleted the FA pitchers who simply were not that good. And guys in our price range that would have been better are Randy Wolf and Randy Johnson (but he was not coming to Milwaukee). Penny and Hampton are having similar years but neither are much if any better than Looper. The reality is the options were not that good. We could have tried to trade for someone but pitching is expensive. We will be in better position this off-season with a full year of seeing what Escobar does at AAA.
  3. Was it the home plate ump who called Yo out? I cannot stand it when home plate umps call that since they can appeal down to first so easily as to whether it was a swing
  4. Anundsen starts out good but his defense is hurting him 3 errors one leading to the only run so far. Anundsen has 3 k's and no walks
  5. Reports from a Cubs board have Dempster out 4-6 weeks and with a couple rehab starts he could be out until mid August. The Cubs lack of pitching depth is going to cost them. Harden is struggling and Zambrano has worn down in recent years. Kevin Hart will be starting some now but you would have to think the Cubs will move to get another starter.
  6. Ryan Dempster heads to the DL He was injured when he fell climbing over the dugout fence Sunday. That is a bad way to get knocked out.
  7. Don't the Blue Jays have some really good young pitching like Marcum, McGowan, Litsch, Romero, and other guys like Richmond and Tallet. I guess I do not get their desire for good young pitching. I honestly do not know what the Jays would be looking for outside of pitching. Their OF is set with Rios, Wells, Snider, and Lind for DH. Their second and fourth best prospects are a catcher and a shortstop. They are old at SS, 3b, 1b and catcher so we would match up okay with some of that if they decide some of our prospects are better than their prospects. They would probably be best off if some contender with money would take Wells with Halladay to free up some cap for the Jays.
  8. Where on earth would have Ibanez, Abreu and Dunn played on this team if we did not have Cameron? Could you imagine how awful of fielding team we would have with Braun, Hart and any one of those guys? There was no CF on the market better than Cameron.
  9. Do you really think you can put someone in the OF who has never played it before? If you want to move Gamel to the OF you do it next year not during the season.
  10. What do we have that would get Clay Buchholz? He would take much more to get than Vazquez in my mind.
  11. One of Gamel and McGehee would make sense to take move to the OF if Hart is moved. Weeks would slide back to second. You have Escobar as well. I am just not sold McGehee is going to continue at this pace and Gamel's value is much higher at 3B than RF in my mind so I would not be quick to move him.
  12. I wonder if they would be interested in Corey Hart. There is no way he is worth Lawrie, Escobar, or Gamel. While he probably wont continue with the numbers he has I think even if he slips to a 3.75 ERA he would still be very valuable. Having a rotation of Gallardo, Vazquez, Bush, Suppan and Looper, with a potential of Parra coming too would make me feel pretty good about our chances.
  13. It is to early to count them as any sort of minor league depth...they have either not started playing yet or just started. The prospects we gave up had a much better chance of making the majors than 2 compensation picks.Have you looked at how the prospects we gave up are doing? Brantley is struggling mightily right now batting .255 with an OPS of .679. Bryson is out for the year with an arm injury. He could be special once he gets healthy. LaPorta is doing well. Now there is a chance all three of those guys make the majors but there is also a chance Bryson continues to have arm troubles, Brantley's limited upside (lack of power and questionable ability for CF) make him a 5th OF, while LaPorta has a good career. However, none of those guys were going to help us this year. And only LaPorta was probably going to help us next year as he could have battled Hart for a spot. The reality is CC got us to the playoffs, gave us more revenue to get guys this year and got us two picks in this years draft (I think Kentrail Davis and Maxwell Walla) who give add depth to our OF in the minors.
  14. We have the 4th most runs in the NL and the 3rd highest OPS. We are number two in HR, and 4th in OBP. In June we were number two in runs and OPS. While a bat would be nice it is most definitely not a must have. A starter is probably a must have right now.
  15. Not exactly their hot-sheet but Baseball America put out their mid-season minor league all-star team and their all-surprise team. No Brewer made the All-star team although i would have to guess Escobar had to have been close to Dee Gordan who is only in Low A ball, has not put up much better numbers (outside of SB's) and is just 1 1/2 year younger than Alcides. However the All-Surprise teams boast two Brewers pitchers. Both Evan Anundsen and Rob Wooten made the list. "Anundsen put himself on the radar after throwing a no-hitter April 28, but he hasn't slowed down since. He's not overpowering, but keeps the ball on the ground. He hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any start all season.' "Wooten anchored the back of the bullpen for the FSL's best team in the first-half, going 18-for-19 in saves before a recent promotion. His 18 saves were nearly double his nearest competitor's total." Nice to see some of our pitches getting some love.
  16. I thought I would check up on Michael Brantley. He is having an interesting season. He has played a lot of CF of AAA this year which is encouraging since it was unknown if he could stick at CF. He has 31 steals in 34 attempts. He has any many walks as strike outs, but an OPS of only .665. He does have 3 home runs which is almost his career high (4). The big part of the CC trade Mat LaPorta is having a good year in AAA. His OPS is .873 which is lower than I would suspect but I would guess he struggled a bit after getting sent down following his brief call up.

  18. No offense to Will, but I'm glad he's not lights out any more. At a time when the Brewers are looking at replacing starters due to injury and ineffectiveness, it feels better not having a former farmhand who was traded away looking like he could have fit the bill. It makes me feel better about the Linebrink tradeYou have to wonder if Inman is going to get sent back to AA. He gave up 4 runs in 5.1 innings tonight. He gave up 10 hits and walked 2, he did strike out 5. I am guessing he will get sent back to AA to refind his form. Will has never been hit like this, so I am guessing there are some mechanical problems for him right now.

  20. Jonathan Pokorny with an interesting couple innings. He has struck out 6 through 2 innings but has given up 3 hits. He has also given up 3 earned runs. He could have gotten out of the 6th with no damage but Prince had a throwing error and then the next guy tripled. Edit - In his 3rd inning he gave up a hit and struck out 1 more guy. I wonder if they are stretching him out a little. He was a reliever in college but in his draft bio it says he started in a summer league Billings Bottom 6th Pitcher Change: Jonathan Pokorny replaces Kristian Bueno. Tyler Stovall singles on a ground ball to shortstop Joshua Prince. Yen-Wen Kuo singles on a line drive to left fielder Chris Ellington. Tyler Stovall to 3rd. Christopher Richburg strikes out swinging. Sean Conner strikes out swinging. Yen-Wen Kuo steals (1) 2nd base. Frank Pfister reaches on throwing error by shortstop Joshua Prince. Tyler Stovall scores. Yen-Wen Kuo to 3rd. Humberto Sosa triples (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Mike Brownstein. Yen-Wen Kuo scores. Frank Pfister scores. Mauricio Pimentel strikes out swinging. Edit - trwi beat me to it
  21. Hardy will be traded for someone that will be here long term not a rental in my mind. The Brewers need rotation help but if they deal Hardy it will be for a guy who will help the next couple years.
  22. Gamel had a rough day at the plate striking out looking twice and his hit was an infield single. Casey is swinging a much better bat right now and that is why you go with him. I really like Gamel but I would like to see him get sent down. Boy do I wish Adam Heether was left handed but I would still like to see him get called up to replace Mat. With Casey getting a good amount of starts against righties anyway and Counsell already there maybe we do not need Gamel's left-handed bat as much now. I think Frank Cat is now going to be the first lefty to pinch hit
  23. I would only give Salome not Lucroy. With Money's assessment of Salome's game calling ability I would rather bank on Lucroy. I would not trade Braddock or Peralta if possible.
  24. The Cubs and Cincy both lose tonight as well. Houston actually will jump ahead of the Cubs with a win tonight. The Cubs are now 4.5 games out. Cincy is 4 games out.
