  1. I wonder if the Indians are less likely to pick Lucroy now that they trading Casey Blake for a couple prospects one of whom is a solid catching prospect at high-A ball. trade High-A catcher Carlos Santana is hitting .323, with 14 home runs, and 96 RBI's. It could mean nothing but it would make me think it is now between Cain, Brantley, and Green.
  2. The idea I have gathered is stats like runs and RBI's are directly related to your team for better or worse. Weeks scores a lot of runs not because he is amazing at getting on base but because he has some good guys behind him, whereas a guy like Brian Giles gets on a ton but is in a bad lineup so he does not score much. RBI's are same way. Ryan Braun is tied for first in NL in extra base hits which should lead to more RBI's but his numbers are a little lower because the top of the order was not getting on-base the start of the year. Ryan Howard has a ton of RBI's because guys are always on base in front of him. If you are going to say RBI's are not a great indicator of a players season, than runs should not count either.
  3. Anyone who thinks we need to apologize to Hall needs to look at his numbers the last 14 days when he has faced more RHP. .172 BA, .250 OBP, an OPS of .629. He has two hr and 2 RBI's along with striking out 9 times in 32 PA. That is 1K every 3.5PA. His clutch home runs have been great but nothing to make me feel bad for him getting benched. He needs to be platooned in my mind.
  4. The Brewers play the Pirates 9 more times, the Cubs play them 6, and the Cards only play them 3 more times, so I guess this is the an advantage to the Brewers. Taking Nady out of that lineup and if The Pirates trade anymore guys like Wilson and/or Bay this is really good for the Crew.
  5. Pena not doing anything to show he deserves a call-up 3 hits, 3 walks, and 4 ER in one inning. Brad Nelson had 3 more walks, a 2B and 2 RBI's.
  6. I dislike Theriot a ton but he is so scrappy I would be surprised if he didnt end up on base.
  7. Howry is getting hit really hard. he is very lucky to have only given up a run. I still don't feel good about this game. The Cubs seem to be a clutch team.
  8. Cedeno got cleated
  9. I agree he isn't ready that is why I am surprised he is up. He could be a good pitcher but it just kills me how much a guy like him gets talked about because he plays for the Cubs and played for Notre Dame On another note the Cubs are getting "favorable" calls on a couple check swings.
  10. Color me unimpressed with Samardzija. His first K should have been a walk. Gonzalez just missed a fat pitch. And he was pretty wild. If he gets accurate he could be good but I thought he has the potential to be a Turnbow type guy, who throws hard but misses the plate a lot.
  11. He is trying to today but the marlins just are not hitting the ball. With Uggla struggling that lineup really is not that good. On a positive Dempster is probably done since his spot is up. That means a worn out bullpen especially with harden and Marquis coming up. Edit - well I guess lou is leaving dempster out there. He is already at 98 pitches and struggling with his control.
  12. RBI's do have to do with teammates and thats what makes this so impressive. For the first 2 months of the year no one was getting on base in front of Braun. There was a time when he had 15 home runs and something like 14 were solo shots.
  13. I just watched the video of the home run and I did like how Braun watched it. I wish he would have just trotted around the bases. I don't like it when Hall does it either. I like how Hardy and Hart hit it and just run, but I am old-fashioned. That being said part of what I like about Braun is his swagger, he just needs to be ready to get hit in the back with a pitch the next time we face the Cards.
  14. It looks like Cody is going for Brevard not Periard. He has pitched well 2 hits, 0 runs, 4 K's through 4
  15. Wood is heading to the DL according to mlb.com Don't know how long this will be for, the article talks about how his DL stint can be retroactive 10 days.
  16. Hardy's current OPS would be good for 7 in MLB amongst 3b. His BA would be 3rd. Maybe he won't keep up at this current pace but he could easily be top 10 in all of baseball at his position which would be pretty darn good.
  17. Your numbers for Hall seem incorrect. Baseball-reference has his March/April numbers as .275 OBP and .761 OPS. His May numbers .322 OBP and .656 OPS. He is currently hitting .175 BA with a .231 OBP and a .571 OPS vs RHP and since he hasnt faced much RHP in the past two months those numbers are pretty accurate for the start of the year with a recent increase. Weeks has held a higher OBP vs RHP all year. Hall hit some early home runs and he brings good power to the table. But he striking more than both other players so his being sat down with a lefty power hitter there to spell him cant be argued. Hardy broke out of his slump when given the chance even with his dramatic home runs of late Hall's numbers since the break are not good. We can agree to disagree though.
  18. He was hitting RHP pitching at a near .100 clip. Neither Hardy nor Weeks was that bad. Hall was striking out over 1/4 of the time as well and he did not hit well all of last year. He was not walking at all, so all he was providing was the occasional home run and that is something Branyan could give too at the time. Hardy did not have a good enough back up to get benched. I will give you Weeks but again there was not anyone to consistently bench him for. Hall's numbers were terrible, not just bad, against RHP so benching him before anyone else made sense. At least Weeks was getting on base almost a third of the time. "less than perfect treatment by the Brewers" What were they supposed to do? They felt like Hardy was the better shortstop and that Hall could play CF. It didn't work so they put him back in the IF but for the past two years he has not hit will with exception of a couple home run binges he went on. I don't know how the team is supposed to treat a guy like that but I don't think they should have treated him differently. If you are not better than other guys (ie Braun, Hardy) you will get moved around. He should be thankful he still had a starting job the way he was hitting.
  19. Is the hesitation to put Hardy at 3B because of Gamel coming up? Or is it because he wont hit for a 3B? I understand giving Gamel every chance to stick on 3B, but Hardy's arm would definitely play at 3B. There has been some stuff said that he wont hit like a 3B should. Right now Hardy would be 5th for NL 3B for OPS (behind Chipper, Wright, Glaus, and Encarncion). He is ahead of Aramis Ramirez. His projected line for the rest of this year gives him 24 home runs. His walk to K rate is good. I think he could definitely stick at 3B.
  20. Hall reminds me a lot of Jenkins the past couple years. People were/are polarized by both. There were people who wanted Jenkins platooned and felt like he was not nearly as good as many thought. They thought his lack of desire to platoon showed that he was blinded to the stats. However, a good group of people still loved Jenkins because he was at one time a really good player. They felt like he deserved respect because he was the face of the team when they were bad for so many years. These two groups are the same with Hall. I am in the group that thinks he isn't that good and his complaining about the platooning and asking to be traded was wrong no matter how long he had been here. I get the people in the other camps point but to say he got jerked around by the team only the looking at half the equation. He got jerked around because he was not producing as much, he was not a great CF, he was/is not as good as JJ (I know some will disagree with this), and he has done nothing to show people should switch positions so he can stay where he is at. I am really glad to see Hall perform right now but I feel as though i did with Jenkins that he can help carry a team for a month but in a month he will be back hitting the way that helped him have an OBP under .300. I am not going to apologize for getting down on a guy who does not get OBP over .300 and was batting around .100 vs RHP yet still did not seem to understand why he was getting platooned and help out of games.
  21. I did not think you were chiding me at all. I was really just looking for what you had to say on the topic, because you seem to have a great understanding of the minors. I really just look at stats and read what people say on here. I am excited about Scapetta as well. I think with him, Ordorizzi (the nickname lupara might take too much explaining to catch on, but it would fit), Lintz and some of those other guys we will have to get some guys that will become top prospects. I like the drafting this year as well, because I think the Brewers got some guys who are intriguing not just as starters but also as relievers. It does not seem like we have developed a lot of relievers so these guys could really help out with the rising cost of relief pitching.
  22. I am sure you are right. Your knowledge of prospects is much better than mine. I was mainly going off stats looking at WHIP and K/9 to see who I was excited about. Garcia's WHIP is bad this year and I have not really followed the minors much until this year. Thanks for the insight. Who of the young pitchers really excites you?
  23. Justin Morneau won an MVP with a great half of season. Rollins won an MVP with a good first half and great second half. It could really happen.
  24. I totally forgot about Wooten. I also forgot about Trey Watten, Willinsky (if he can get his walks down), Peralta (I might be a sucker on this one), Luetge, Sherrill, Efrain Nieves, Mike Ramlow, and Amaury Rivas who really intrigue me. Other guys like Daniel Meadows, Brandon Ritchie, Santo Manzanillo, Damon Krestalude, Nick Tyson, Mercedes, and Corey Frerichs are guys to watch as well, but not as much so for me as the other guys. Although guys the list is pretty interchangeable since I don't know a ton about the guys stuff.
  25. With Ordorizzi, Lintz, Bowman, (and even Fredrickson while in rookie ball) pitching well and then a guy like Scarpetta pitching well in his first season the young pitchers really could boost the farm system and make pitching the strength in 2-3 years. Lately, we have had a lot of hitting with guys like Yo and Parra being the minority in terms of solid pitching prospects. It would be nice to see Jeffress, Periard, Braddock, and Anundson, headlining a solid group with the aforementioned guys.
