  1. Kimbrel is probably going to a solid addition for the Cubs. He has looked good lately. His last appearance he got a little lucky as the he walked two but the Padres got one out on the base paths.
  2. Passing those 3 teams still leaves them outside the playoffs. They have to pass the 3 of the Brewers, Nationals, Cards, and Phillies. Not saying they cant do it but having to pass that many teams is a big deal. They do have an 11 games stretch against the Yankees, Nationals, Phillies and Dodgers. Their August is pretty tough. With the aforementioned games they also play the Giants 6 times, the Rockies 6 times, the Brewers 3 times and then end with a 4 game Dodgers series. Then they have an incredibly easy looking September with just one series against a team .500 or better. If they pass three teams (tied with SF) they are WC#2 and in the playoffs. I don't think being 2.5 games out of the wildcard with their schedule is that daunting a task. Of course they could do it. I wouldn't sell if I were them but all reports have them as a likely seller. Who knows who is right. They have a fairly simple September but their August is not easy at all

  4. The Brewers would have to have a bad week to become sellers. A middling week make get them to be minor buyers. A good week and they could be in first place for the division and then i think they become major buyers
  5. The Giants are on fire but they still have to play really well over the next 62 games to have a good shot at the WC. 8 games over seems like a realistic low end for the last wild card teams about to buy and bad teams about to sell. That means the Giants have to go 35-27 down the stetch just to hit that low end. Do they believe they can they sustain that kind of run? Any short losing streak makes it very hard. They feel more like the Pirates last year than anything else. I agree with your two posts about the Brewers and Cubs. Obviously I would feel much better about our chances with Woodruff but the Cub's road heavy schedule is nice to see. Cubs also have 10 games vs the Cards, 3 against each the Phillies and Nationals. The Brewers just have 5 against the Cards and 3 against the Nationals. The Brewers on paper have a tough August (If the Rangers and Dbacks sell it gets a little nicer) and a little easier September (starts tough but 17 of last 20 should be against none playoff teams)
  6. The Dbacks and Giants are easily the most interesting teams. The Giants were presumed sellers all season but seem to always want to go for it. At the same time they have very valuable pieces in Smith and Bumgarner. The Dbacks have a crazy good run differential but are a team most did not see competing. They have been rumored sellers with Ray and Greinke. I would not be surprised to see them sell looking toward the next couple years. If the Giants and Dbacks sell you are looking at 5 teams competing for 3 spots with the Cubs only having a 2.5 game lead over the 3rd place Cards.
  7. Outside the Giants none of the teams outside the Nationals, Brewers, Cards and Phillies had good weeks. The Rockies, Padres and Pirates are all 5 or more out. The Reds and Mets are 7 or more. If those teams don't make a move this week they are selling. I expect those teams to be sellers! The Dbacks and Giants are being th sitting at 2.5. Giants have a huge series against the Cubs then go Padres and Phillies up to the deadline. The Dbacks go Baltimore and Miami before the Yankees. Easy schedule to make a little run.
  8. How can someone who is viewed by most as a really solid 4th outfielder who can start a few games a week be overrated? No one is aiming he should start every day although it is very likely he would get better if he played more consistently. That is just reality.
  9. I also dont think the Brewers should go get a SS but I also think Saladino should never see the starting lineup (ar most once a week). A better utility player would be great.
  10. Who is out there on the SS market? I don't think the Brewers should trade for one but CC obviously doesn't trust Arcia and we cannot continue playing Saladino can we? It seems like a weak SS market. One name I have seen is Freddy Galvis from the Blue Jay's.
  11. Both starters getting hit around. Hopefully the Brewer's two outs on the basepaths dont come back to haunt them
  12. That he makes it back or that he helps the pen? Both.....i don't think he will be ready to contribute this season.......he had an ACL injury.....that would be a very quick recovery Gallardo did it in less time right?
  13. That was an annoyingly good at bat right there.
  14. Shaw doesnt send Saladino down. We have no back up SS if we send Saladino down. We dont even have a guy who is kind of a SS.
  15. This lineup is fun. 1B has sorted itself out and Huira is obviously amazing. Please Lorenzo become 2018 Lorenzo.
  16. Has it been poster here that the Brewers think there is a chance Bobby Wahl and Suter could both pitch this year? Long shots I know but could definitely provide some help. Wahl for sure as a reliever and since he isn't rehabbing an arm injury https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/injured-brewers-pitchers-visit-team-at-chase-field
  17. Does Chris Hook start getting any credit for the run this starting pitching staff is on? Maybe it is hard to give him credit when the bullpen is awful at the same time. It really is impressive though how the starters have pitched.
  18. .848 OPS is encouraging for sure. That is solid. I didn't notice he was doing as well as he was. Proving me wrong
  19. It might be this time when they don't have one of their worst hitters bat leadoff. Agreed. Cain hasnt done anything to deserve batting lead off. The problem is they dont really have a guy who fits the lead off mold. Cain from last year would make this lineup very dangerous
  20. Obviously that COULD happen. The post I responded to said they had "very realistic" chances. I dont think depending on an 8-game winning steak or 4 out of 5 teams who are currently above .500 playing poorly the rest of the way is "very realistic." It could happen if a team gets really hot but it isnt likely. And that is shown in predictions. None have any team in the group i mentioned with more than a 9% chance of making the playoffs.
  21. The Marlins are assured of not making the playoffs I'm pretty sure. The other 12 teams all have a very realistic shot at this point. It is hard for me to say the Reds (and teams right around them) have a realistic shot. They have 69 games left. They are currently 7 games under .500. Going 40-29 would put them 4 games over .500 which would get them in as of now. I went back 5 years and the last Wild Card has always been at least 8 games over .500 (most often way above that). Say this year hits that low mark of 8 games over they would need to go 44-25. I really dont see that happening. To get to even 4 games over (83-79) here is what other teams need to do Mets - 39-28 Pirates - 38-29 Rockies - 37-29 Padres - 37-30 Giants - 36-30 To get to 8 games over - 85-77 Mets - 41-26 Pirates - 40-27 Rockies - 39-27 Padres - 39-28 Giants - 38-28 Not sure how realistic that is for most of those teams. I guess you could say the 4 games over is realistic but to get to 8 games over that is some really good baseball. It just seems very likely it is at leas 8 games over. Here is what the top 5 wild card teams need to do get to 8 over. I think 2 of 5 hit these numbers Nationals -35-33 Brewers - 35-30 Cards - 37-31 Phillies - 36-30 Dbacks - 36-30
  22. That is how it will be too. The Brewers and Cardinals are goint to be right there with teams like the Phillies and Dbacks. I would be surprised if the 2 wild card spots dont come from the Nationals, Phillies, Brewers, Cardinals, or Diamondbacks. I mean obviously the Cubs could also be in the mix if the Brewers or Cards take the division.
  23. This is could be a wild trade deadline or a complete dud. Teams will be deciding between being buyers or sellers right up to the last week. Front offices are going have to be able to sell fans on selling when they are within 2 or 3 games of the wild card. Now say the Brewers or Phillies go 8-2 over their next 10 that would make it a lot easier for some of the other teams to sell selling.
  24. He was put on waivers and the pistons claimed him. I don't think the Bucks had a shot to get him. Very interesting the Pelicans gave up on him. NBA coaches must view him much differently than fans
  25. As others have said I think we can strike Bauer's name off the table. The Indians are now just 4.5 games out of first and just .5 game out of the wild card. The Twins are also starting to show some signs of regressing to the mean (since June 4th they are a .500 team). The Giants are now just 2.5 games out of the WC. Are they still selling or do they wait it out? I am guessing they are not in a rush now. They just passed the Rockies and Padres in their own division and could pass the Dbacks very soon. Do the Dbacks sell with 1 game out of the WC? If the Giants and Dback do not sell the starting pitching market really dries up.
