  1. Junior was amazing to start the year and then has had an era 3.8 or higher every month including 4.7 last month and 5 and climbing this month. He has been trending down since May. Most people saw this coming
  2. More like a quarter priced at .25 cents and say, "No, thanks...I want more for it." Kind of but also like saying that about a quarter that won't be worth anything in one month and doesn't do you any good now.
  3. Has there ever been a year like this? If they Cubs have even a small bad stretch there could be 8 teams within a couple games of each other for all 5 spots. Every team has their issues and I would be surprised to see someone really run away with it. Maybe the Cubs get hot but it seems like we have been expecting that for a while but their starting pitching just isnt there. Dodgers have had so many injuries. The two favorites just havent separated and the other favorite - the Nationals - isnt making it. Wide open year. Hopefully the Brewers can take care of business. 6 games against the Cubs and 3 against the Cards are the only teams in the playoff hunt that the Brewers play. I guess you could say the Pirates but I think that ship has sailed.
  4. Hamels had a 6.41 ERA, a 6.16 FIP and a 4.49 xFIP when pitching in Texas this season, but a 2.93 ERA, 4.17 FIP and 3.83 xFIP on the road. That is why the Cubs took a chance on Hamels, and that regained velocity which declined earlier in the season. Granted, Theo and the Cubs likely weren't expecting Hamels to be this good, but it's not as if there were no reasons to acquire him. So his road FIP put him right around Kyle Hendricks, Gio Gonzalez and Jake Odorizzi's overall numbers. His ERA was good on the road but his peripherals were just fine. Also Wrigley Field is much closer to a hitters park than a pitchers park so to expect him to match the road numbers which included a division with 4 teams in the bottom half of the one park factor I could find (http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor) seems odd. He was pitching at Oakland and Seattle which are opposite ends of the spectrum of Texas. Even Houston and Anaheim rated 18 and 20 on this list. i know theses lists are far from perfect but to say hey his road numbers were good so obviously he would be good is really overstating it. Texas is a hitters park but so is Wrigley. In the division he will pitch at more hitter friendly parks in Milwaukee and Cincy than he did in the AL West. The biggest factor is probably a veteran who went from a terrible team to a good one and got some life back in him. Maybe it sticks for the rest of the year, or maybe he fades hard like Jon Lester has. It has been a good pick up so far but you cant just take road splits and say here is why it was an obvious move.
  5. I am willing to admit I was completely wrong on hamels. Such a Cubs move
  6. To think of how far ahead of schedule we are you just need to remember we are doing what we are doing without our number 1 and number 3 starters. And our highest paid player is a platoon player
  7. Chacin has done a great job today not letting the cubs get runs back. Against atlanta it felt like if we scored runs atlanta would immediately respond
  8. Cain may pass Yelich in batting average this week
  9. With the way our pitchers have been protecting leads and with how the Cubs seem to pull out miraculous wins every day I would say 10 is still worrisome
  10. Why is he still out there? This is so frustrating
  11. You just walked the 7,8,9 part of the order. Those were some really bad hitters...
  12. maybe he really is the team MVP? Maybe the lack of a trade took pressure off him? Maybe it is .450 Babip instead of .268 over the year I'm not saying you specifically but people get way too carried away with BABIP especially over a small sample size. How exactly would one even have an 11 for 25 stretch without a really high BABIP for that stretch unless they were hitting everything for a homerun? Oh I know. I think it is useful at times. It was more of a joke with Pina. Interesting thing with Pina is he actually had been pretty bad the last week. Just 1 hit in 9 at bats with 1 bb and 4 ks. He must hit in bunches
  13. maybe he really is the team MVP? Maybe the lack of a trade took pressure off him? Maybe it is .450 Babip instead of .268 over the year
  14. Travis Shaw has been terrific the last couple weeks and really the last month. Over his last 28 games his OPS is .943. His Babip is still terrible at .260 (well below his .291 career average) over the last month. Crazy thing over the last 7 games when he has an OPS of 1.322 his Babip is only .222
  15. Whenever there is a challenge the ESPN livecast glitches. Started to use mlb instead
  16. Yelich and Schoop both hit really hard outs. Gray isn't fooling the Brewers right now but the Brewers aren't finding a ton of holes
  17. Actually arrieta has been the best. He has been really good. However Chacin sure seems like the second best. Miley could be third. Maybe Hellickson. Maybe Cahill. But it hasn't been impressive. Look at this list https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-free-agent-rankings-best-starting-pitchers-available-on-the-hot-stove-market/amp/
  18. Tied for 1st going into August. Most wins in the NL. Didn't trade Huira or Burnes. Stearns' off season moves Cain, Yelich, Chacin, Jeffress and Miley all playing huge roles. This is fun again
  19. That is beautiful. Especially when the Cubs have really just had the one injury to Darvish all year. The rest of the starters have been very healthy for the most part. I am not sure who outside of Darvish has even missed a start! The Brewers have had Nelson out for the year. Davies missing most of the season. Suter now out for the year. Miley missed significant time Anderson missed time. Guerra missed time.
  20. Are people still mad not getting Archer after seeing that price? Wow. And I wanted archer
  21. This makes very little sense
  22. He is definitely my least favorite option but it all depends on cost
