  1. When I talk to my friends and mention how much I cannot stand the Red Sox, they are somewhat surprised. They figure I would hate the Yankees more. Growing up in the late 70's and early 80's, the Yankees certainly topped the list because they were team that, except for once, often stood between the Brewers and postseason success. What turned it around? ESPN. I do not remember the year, but the Red Sox had finished near the bottom of the AL East. It might have been 1997. They finished under .500 and were not a good team. Even though, Peter Gammons had the nerve to get on ESPN and proclaim that even though they finished fourth, he still felt they were the best team in the American League. What? Seriously? Can't you take your freaking Red-Sox-Colored glasses off to see reality? I know he was also a beat writer for the Sox at the time, but puh-leeze! ESPN will favor the east coast and, especially, the Boston-area clubs. It would take quite a bit for me to cheer for any of those teams. Oh yeah... the Boston Tea Cup Hockey Tournament sucks, too! ;-)
  2. I guess Reyes went 1-1 and they pulled him. That puts him at 181 for 537 or .337057. What does Braun have to do? Either go 3-4 or 3-5. If Braun goes 3-3, he ends up at 190 for 562 or .338078. If he goes 3-4, that puts him at 190 for 563 or .337477. So, he needs to go 3-3 or 3-4. If they walk him, tomatoes should be thrown at the Pirates... Just kidding.
  3. You know that the Brewers did something special when they were the lead sports story on TMJ4 over the Packers.

  6. It is amazing how things turn around so quickly? A few weeks ago, they were almost untouchable, having a great time, and were playing excellent ball. Now, they are booting balls, making comments about Free Agency in the press (see Prince), and can't hit well at all. It seems that series against the Cardinals at home is what started things down the wrong path. I wonder if there was one event or a quick series of events that caused the chemistry in the locker room to take a hit. Did Roenicke tell them to knock off the antics and that caused a bit of a chemistry issue?

  9. Ok... I'm not on the ledge. The Crew is still up 6 over the Cards. However, I'm disappointed at how the Brewers have dropped their last five. Should I start creeping on the ledge?

  11. Did the Rhode Island manager complain that the sun was not as bright when they were up to bat? ;-)
  12. One thing that impresses me is how he can frame a pitch. It may seem like a small thing, but he is able to frame it an inch or so and show it to the umpire in a good spot without making it look like he's moving the glove a few inches. That might be why the Brewers have been getting many of those pitches that are borderline in the FOX Box...
  13. I looked at the course and I was not interested in having 10,000 volts going through my body. How did that feel?
  14. We got some two weeks ago at a local Kwik Trip. I think they were $25 or $28 apiece.
  15. I don't know if that is entirely true. The game plan is typically decided by the pitcher, catcher, and the coaches (manager). One example might be to throw hard stuff the first time through the order. If they start to get a bead on the ball, then start throwing some offspeed stuff, etc. I didn't catch in the majors (no kidding), but when I did catch, it was a collaborative effort. Yes... the pitcher has the final say, but it wasn't all him.
  16. The fathead looks like the best option. Thanks!
  17. Hi all... We have been painting and carpeting our children's bedrooms. One room is a Badgers room while the other is a Brewers room. It was easy enough painting a motion W on the wall, but the Brewers' logo would be next to impossible. Where is the best place for me to purchase a large logo to stick on the wall? I think I had seen one 2' high by 4' wide. That is probably a perfect size. Thanks for your help!
  18. Don't worry... Peter Gammons will still say the Red Sox are better. That's what beat writers are supposed to say, right?
  19. This answered my question that I was about to post. Thank you. @(#*)@(#*&)@$]*@^)*(&^%)(*&^)@]*$&^@#)@^%&^%@#($*!(*^ I can bypass the filter...

  21. Hi everybody... My last year with the band was the '90 - '91 season, but some of what I have to say may be relevant. I would be lying if some of the same "types" of things weren't going on when I was in the band. There was the standard hazing type things (no Johnson Creek type hazing, though). When I was a freshman, some upper classmen went around the bus "suggesting" that people take a shot of Tequila. However if somebody refused, they weren't "forced" to do it. Also, I don't remember seeing girls kissing anywhere to go anywhere (I would have certainly remembered that). The point I guess that I wanted to bring up is that we sort of policed ourselves. That may sound a big bass ackwards, so let me explain. Yes, there were parties, but they were typically closed to band members or people the band members knew. Yes... people would get trashed at these parties, but if anybody would start going over the line. They would be dealt with within the band. There were a few cases where a band member would be ready to step over the line and other members would physically grab that person, sit them down, and get in their face. That doesn't mean that eyebrows weren't shaved off once in awhile or people were drawn on, don't ya know... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I don't think the lines today are much different, nor do I think people don't know where those lines are. Also, just like most people, limits would try to be pushed. However, we were able to try and take care of it before anybody got hurt or offended. Some of the things I hear the band did recently has me shaking my head. Perhaps I wasn't Also, please keep a few other things in mind: the alleged events happened during a University-sponsored trip. Why wasn't the whole football team suspended when Smith was suspended? Because it happened outside of the context of the football team. These events happened during a trip. Also, call them geeky if you want, the band is very, very tight. Asking somebody to rat somebody else out is not that easy. I'm not saying that it is right to keep information, but I think this is the best way that Mike can flush out the truth. Peer pressure will be getting pretty high along with pressure from fans and alumni (even Band alumni). I don't know if this provides any insight. As a former band member, I would like to see it resolved right away... and the right way.

  23. Guys who can leave the team: Suppan -- sorry but in crunch time, he doesn't come through. Hall -- he should get something in a trade. Weeks -- perhaps we should say "one more year" for three more years?
