For the second straight year I pick BYU over Texas A&M, and for a second straight year BYU can't hang with the 6th seeded team from the Big 12. Making the Mountain West proud.

He was acting like a 6 year old, yelling "Fine! My argument doesn't matter then!" Also didn't he just have some sort of surgery on his throat a couple years ago? I'm not sure Arizona deserves to be in, but St. Mary's definitely doesn't if you ask me.

I'm guessing by only "two decent teams" you mean Purdue and Michigan State? It's pretty much a consensus that the Big 10 is going to get 7 teams (hopefully for Wisconsin's sake). Granted Wisconsin only went 4-7 against the teams likely to make it, but if PSU does then they're record is 6-7 against teams going to the tournament from the B10. Also, Wisconsin was 0-3 against MSU and Purdue, not that it's really any better than 0-4.

Look for a 9 seed for Wiscy with a matchup against Pitt in the 2nd round (if they beat the #8 seed they are matched against, Maryland).\ I agree it seems that Wisconsin tends to get screwed a little when it comes to seeding, but they are more than likely headed toward an 8/9 game (if not worse), so no matter who they play in the second round they'll be a huge underdog.

I was in an elevator in a South Carolina hotel once with my dad along with a hotel maid who asked "Ya'll from Wisconsin?" while we were talking, which I thought was pretty impressive. Granted I haven't been in the South much, but I definitely would not be able to pick out the difference between someone from South Carolina or Alabama, for example. -
Trying to remain objective as possible, I think Marquette deserves probably a 6 seed. If you look at their losses, six of them are to top 20 teams, one to Tennessee who's in, and another to Dayton who's likely in as an at-large. USF was the only bad loss all year. I suppose the committee may knock them down due to the James injury, but honestly worse than a 6 would be undeserving.

Extremely heartbreaking. Officiating was weird all day. Must've been 60 free throws attempted, yet "let them play" at other times where there was some obvious contact. To be honest I thought McNeal might've picked up his 5th foul when Nova traveled on their second last possession. It's obviously great they fought back to make it as close as it was, but from a fan standpoint I'd probably rather they lose by double digits and not invest so much emotionally in the game.

My last three classes of the week (two today and one tomorrow) have all been canceled, college basketball is on for 12 hours today, and Spring Break starts tomorrow.

When someone will say "Try and (blank)" instead of "Try to (blank)" When I lived in the dorms, the computer lab in the basement had a sign that said "Try and remember to log out!" Apparently not only should we attempt to log out, we should also remember to.

I think my favorite of all of them is when Streeter gets Amir to believe they're going to be filming some show in California (I don't remember the exact context.) When Amir is on the verge of tears and saying "That's not getting me!" has to be one of the funniest things I've seen.

I'm not positive, but I believe Memphis leads the country in defensive efficiency. I personally don't think they're as good as Pitt/UNC/UConn and maybe a couple others, but a run to the Elite 8 or even Final 4 wouldn't be the most surprising thing in the world. I'll agree that BYU is a sleeper and could probably be a legitimate Sweet 16 candidate, though if they get in the 8/9 game that would obviously be pretty difficult.

Well Marquette's going to play Saint John's after they beat Georgetown (for the second time this season) today. Even though it's at MSG, if Marquette loses this game I'll probably lose all hope for them to do anything in the tournament. Wisconsin would seem to be in unless they get blown out by OSU on Friday.

Flicked off is also kind of a pet peeve of mine, although I don't hear too many people say it. Another one that bugs me is when someone will say it was a swoosh instead of a swish when talking about basketball, although I don't hear that one too often either.

I'm not saying I agree with this criteria, but I always hear analysts ask if a particular team "looks like a tournament team" when deciding whether or not they should make it. If that's actually something they look at, Wisconsin has to be pretty low on that list. Aside from Landry, the team didn't even shoot 25%. If you give up only 41 points through 38 minutes, you should not lose a game.

Wisconsin challenging Illinois' 33 point game with only 10 points with 4 minutes left in the first half. Meanwhile looks like Marquette will continue to lose close games to elite teams. Hopefully the selection committe sees that and doesn't autmomatically think "4-6 in last 10" or whatever it will be.

Does anyone know which team would receive the 4 seed in the BE tourney if Marquette and Villanova end up with identical records? I'd imagine head-to-head is first but since they split I'm not sure how it works. We'll just have to hope Nova loses to Notre Dame tonight and Marquette can win one more game so they have a double-bye locked up.

I have only one class where it's all PowerPoint, and the professor hands out the slides in addition to this. Needless to say, attendance on Fridays at 11:00 is usually around 50%, with plenty of people zoning out because they can just read over the slides later before the exam. -
That's why I said "Add the fact someone 6 inches shorter (and more importantly not as good) is guarding him and he's bound to go off." I was at the WVU game where James was on Ruoff who must have 6+ inches on him, and Ruoff couldn't do a thing offensively. James is going to be sorely missed on defense. I certainly wouldn't call the officiating putrid. The call on Burke was bad, and Thabeet jumped and bodied a guy driving in the first half that wasn't called, other than that they weren't any really bad calls I thought. Probably a little bit in UConn's favor, but wasn't really close to affecting the outcome of the game.

I don't think anyone would've beat UConn with Price shooting the way he was. He's already a great player, throw in the fact someone 6 inches shorter is guarding him for most of the game and he's bound to go off. Villanova is down 8 right now to DePaul at halftime, that would be huge for Marquette's chances to maintain a top 4 seed in the BE tourney if DePaul somehow holds on.

Nice run for Marquette right now, sucks that James is done for the game though. Acker hasn't played more than 10 minutes in a month, their guards can't get in foul trouble.

I'm assuming by UW-L you mean La Crosse. In the three years I've been here you've only needed a 3.5 to make the Dean's list for liberal arts, though I'll admit they probably could put it at 3.75. As far as attendance policies in college, I've always thought being graded on attendance was kind of silly. If a student doesn't want to go to class, let them skip, it's only their loss and doesn't affect anyone else. If they skip often enough, their grade will likely reflect it anyway. On the other hand, if a student is struggling in the class, they'll be helped out just by "showing up", which doesn't necessarily mean you learned the material. I think part of the problem of kids complaining about grades is the relative ease of the Gen Ed classes that are required. In the 3 or so semesters where I took mostly Gen Ed's, I can think of 3 or maybe 4 I legitimately had to work hard if I wanted a good grade. The others were either a moderate amount of work, or pretty much a joke of a class. That way when students finally get to upper level classes, they're used to not having to work too hard in high school or even their first few semesters of college, then all of a sudden they actually have to and are frustrated by it.
