  1. Simply because Gagne gave the "okay" doesn't mean that he was the best option in that situation. Unless Gagne's arm was just short of falling off, I would almost hope he'd say he's ready to go. I'm sure he's anxious to get saves and prove he's worth 10 million dollars, so why would he say no. This might be off, but it reminded me of when players are injured and then try to convince the trainer/manager/etc. that they're ready to play even though they probably won't be 100% effective. I think it was a conspiracy that Brett Favre always wanted to play and that even though he was greatly injured and tired, he shouldn't have been out on the field. After TLB said "conspiracy" he added that it was in jest, so I'm not really sure what mocking him adds to the conversation. Also, an injured Brett Favre was clearly the best option compared to the alternatives. In this instance, Gagne was not clearly the best option. The comparison doesn't hold any water.
  2. Somewhat bold preidiction for CV tonight: 6 IP 5 hits 2 ER 4 K's 3 BB
  3. The reason Yost goes with Kendall #9 is because it pretty much adds another lead-off man. Kendall is good for that spot cause he can give you decent OBP to set the plate for the middle of the order, but has little-to-no power. If Weeks gets moved from the leadoff spot (I still think he should stay there for now, but if he struggles into the future then who knows) I'd prefer him maybe #5/6 because he could then drive in the middle of the order when they get on base. I wouldn't mind seeing Hart hit in the 2 spot because he's probably going to get more fastballs/better pitches to hit, knowing that Fielder and Braun are coming up behind him. If he's back down at 5 or 6, pitchers will know that Bill "swing away" Hall and Hardy are up, so Hart might not get too much to hit.
  4. Is it known for sure that Castro and Maddux gave Ned the green light? Even if they did, it's not like Yost doesn't have the final decision. Simply because someone may give you bad advice it doesn't mean you have to listen to it.
  5. http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/3d9354e09ebf8a1c78ab3b047640d1dff0a73b8.pjpg Not as cool as the one above, but I thought it was kind of a cool view from across the river. I can't really help with restaurants cause I was only there for a day, but I'll agree with those who said the people are really friendly. The people outside the stadium, those who worked there, and most of the friends were all extrememly nice. I've only been to 6 ballparks but this has by far been my favorite so far.
  6. About Gabe Gross: Kapler has been hurt for about the last week and Gwynn's on the DL, who else do you want him to start out there before Cameron gets back? And Counsell has had some good ABs, I'd imagine he's gonna get 1 start a week or so, spelling Hall Hardy or Weeks ocassionally.
  7. Speaking of Bill, I absolutely cannot stand his "Tough pitch to lay off" when a player takes a close pitch with two strikes. So many times throughout the season he'll say "I'm not sure how he laid off that one, that was close to the plate!" Clearly they have a better eye from the batter's box than you do from the booth, it's like he can't understand some players have good discipline.
  8. That happens all the time when I go to Taco Bell. I don't get lettuce on my tacos, and there's always a couple of strands on each one. My guess is that they don't change gloves or something so it accidently gets mixed in, although it would be kind of funny if they did it on purpose. Yeah, I hate when restaurants can't get really simple things right. I'll go to White Castle and literally be the only person ordering and they still can't get that I asked for no pickles. I don't go there very often, but I'd say they get my order correct maybe half the time. I usually hate when people are demeaning toward people who work at fast food places, but honestly I don't know how you can be so bad at a simple task.
  9. Officaialy 8 days til my birthday, AND the brewers win, heck yea!
  10. I'd rather have Hart batting lead-off over Counsell, but having him ahead of Bill Hall is a start. At least Counsell works the count and usually works the pitcher a little bit.
  11. Obviously I can't speak for other fans, but to me home runs are much more exciting than "small ball". It's just not that thrilling to me watch someone get on base, the next guy bunting him over etc. My mom's a big White Sox fan so I see a decent amount of games and the past couple seasons it was just annoying watching Ozzie Guillen managing (well that and listening to Hawk). With that being said I think I enjoy great pitching match-ups over slugfests. For example I'd rather see tonights Mets/Phils games with Santana vs. Hamels over two fifth starters squaring off and allowing base runners left and right.
  12. 6.0 IP 6 hits 3 runs 3 earned runs 2 BB 5 K's What about that pitching line is "below mediocre"? It's obviously not very good, but calling it below mediocre is a stretch IMO. Maybe if he was a top line starter then yeah, but come on the guys pretty much set as a back of the rotation guy. And I'm also curious as to what defense was excellent his last game. I seem a Cardinals player running home and Joe Dillon throwing it about 70 % of the way home, so there was no chance to throw him out. I'm not saying he should have been out, but a good throw and that's possibly one less run for him
  13. Who comes up with the comments? They mention how Kendall is leading NL catchers in batting average but obviously dont' realize he's 1 for his last 18. Then they mention how "15 game winner Ted Lilly is 0-3 with a 9+ ERA" like people weren't expecting him to regress at all.
  14. To be fair, Bush has had some poor defense behind him in a couple of starts. By no stretch of the imagination am I saying he is pitching "well", but I don't think he's done as poorly as some may think. As you said, he's been consistently mediocre over his career, which to me is fine when you're 4th/5th starter. As long as he doesn't continue to walk 4 or 5 guys a game he should be fine as a part of the rotation. I'll agree that Parra should probably be sent down, though mostly based on the fact it's easier to limit his innings. Obviously he, like the others, haven't been pitching well, but it's kind of silly to make a numbers decision based off 3 starts this year.
  15. Wow. They had him locked up for the next 7 seasons... they better pray he doesn't become injury prone or anything. Am I wrong, or is that a bit like trying to predict the weather two weeks from now? I think it's like trying to predict the weather 2 months from now.
  16. Hah I just listened to this about a minute ago. I'll agree there a plently of obnoxious Cub fans who go to games at Wrigley, but to completely bash a team's fan base is pretty ridiculous. He also said something like (paraphrase) "Some pick them to win the division, but at the end of the day I think they won't because they're the Chicago Cubs." I guess he doesn't remember last year.
  17. I can't imagine how crushed the Rockies were in the bottom of the 14th. They finally score one and then the Padres come back to get one.
  18. I seem to remember Arroyo doing pretty well against the Brewers last year in a couple of starts, hopefully that doesn't continue. GABP seems to be almost as bad as PNC as far the Brewers playing poorly there, so I'd be okay with 1 win and quite happy with 2.
  19. I can only assume it was Peavy and Francis? Who else would the Rockies have pitching that could stifle a team so much.
  20. Why does it seem like he won't throw any off-speed pitches til he's faced a couple of batters? I've only seen him pitch three times, but I swear everytime it's just straight fastballs until a couple guys get on or something.
  21. "Ohhh that bat is scandalous" What a ridiculous song that was. Seth McClung pitched 3 scoreless innings today, I'd say that's pretty neat.
  22. Bill Hall spent his game by jumping all over the first pitch and weakly grounding out to the shortstop in his only at-bat. Hopefully Hart bats ahead of him tomorrow, though I'm a bit skeptical.
  23. Eight game losing streak at Busch Stadium is over, Prince's first home run, huge win to salvage the series. It's almost kind of sad how the Brewers winning or losing can really affect your mood...
  24. I'm so confident about today's game, that I'm predicting that Ryan Braun will walk one time.
