  1. I suppose baseball-wise, our September 21 isn't going as badly as Cecil Cooper's is. Butler warming up...
  2. Ooh, Invader, you've got me beat with that one. Since all of my employees are college students, there's a degree of less-than-ideal employee behavior that I just have to accept as part of their learning experience. For some students, working for me is their first 'real' job. The person in today's example has been in the workforce long enough to know better. I know her well enough to realize that she probably spent the morning hoping that she could tough it out this afternoon, rather than consciously taking the passive-aggressive approach. She may not realize that the way she handled this gave the exact impression of the latter. It's also possible that she started off with more or less ordinary cold symptoms, and felt sharply worse over like the noon hour. The H1N1 virus is all over UW-Madison, and its onset appears to be that abrupt. I'll find out soon enough if that's the case.
  3. Wow, pretendastronaut, you may have found one of the most attractive photos of Tom Gorzelanny ever. Go Brewers (the real home team this series).
  4. If you caught a cold over the weekend, and you're scheduled to work at a job at 2:00 PM Monday, you really don't have to wait until 1:03 PM Monday to email your supervisor about it.
  5. How far in advance is the NFL schedule released? It was last October or so that the Brewers committed to September 20 being an all-fan giveaway day, and I'm guessing February or so when they committed to the giveaway being a Melvin bobble. The information on how far in advance weekend games sell out is surely proprietary, but that data would probably shed some light on how much yesterday's attendance depended on the Brewers' position in the standings vs. the existence of a home Packer game vs. the selection of bobblehead. I could see more people turning out for a bobble with broader appeal (for lack of a better phrase), but I don't think Sunday's attendance should be perceived as a fan referendum on Doug Melvin. (I admit I did wonder during the game whether anyone was posting such a thought on this forum.) In any case, if I've read the 2010 schedule correctly, next year the last all-fan giveaway is in August, which will make the bobble factor moot if Sunday games next September sell poorly.
  6. People on my right kept looking in my direction during the game. After a few double takes I realized they were looking past me at the press box TVs, which were showing the Packers. So, bjkrautk, how close to 217 do you sit? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Come on, that strategy has worked just fine for the Cubs over the last century. Oh, wait.
  8. I think I have enough offers to tide me over for this series. If not, I'll post again later this week. Thanks to all who have responded!
  9. With apologies for this tangent...does the Xbox work?
  10. Well, I enjoyed the game. Barely 30,000 fans "paid to see it" and around us there seemed to be more interest in the Packer game than anything else. Still, there were people (besides the S.O. and me) who kept count of Yovani's Ks (even if his milestone K was vs. the pitcher) and Prince's walk. When the 200th K was recorded, I did wonder if anyone here would be posting to taking Yo out of the game. I found it mildly gratifying that Robb Edwards apparently heeded my suggestion of earlier this month, that he never again introduce Corey Patterson in the same enthusiastic way that he introduces Corey Hart. I'm glad the game was reasonably in hand by the time C-Pat was caught stealing, else I would have felt worse being happy about the out. Today's game will be a 'happy place' for me to visit, should the Brewers get their shirts handed to them by the Phillies next Saturday and/or Sunday.
  11. The Brewers had a nice little pregame ceremony today for Prince. The whole team (except bullpenners) came out as he was presented with a trophy. Coop came over to shake Prince's hand, too.
  12. One more start for Yo Also, Doug Melvin bobble Why not win? and that No lineups as of almost 10:00, and we have to get on the road soon. I hope at least one of you takes your eyes off the Packers long enough to post here today. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. We are unable to attend the September 21-23 Cubs series. If someone could save a Gameday program from that series for me, I'd appreciate it. It should be no. 25 for 2009. Please send me a PM if you can supply this. Thanks in advance!
  14. He didn't look happy, though that could be a result of the game getting further out of hand. While it's hardly unheard of for a sports record to be broken with the prior recordholder in attendance, I suppose it's less common when the prior recordholder is associated with the other team.
  15. Make way for the Prince! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Frankly, I was thinking a HBP would have been kind of funny. Or catcher's interference or some such. Anyway, congratulations to the heir to the throne.
  16. Jody Gerut, playing for a 2010 gig. Hey Ryan, why not get on base and give Prince another chance tonight? Because we do NOT want a bottom of the ninth. Edit: Thanks. Come on, Prince.
  17. Fine, Coop - keep bringing in pitchers. You'll wish you hadn't by the 11th inning... It's nice that Ken's roll of the dice in bringing in Gerut paid off.
  18. I guess it's ultimately good news that the Cubs lost, even though it reduces STL's magic number to 4. Edit: clean first inning! Woot Soup!
  19. The IGT shall not be ignored today! Saturday's starting lineups per Tom Haudricourt: Your Milwaukee Brewers 2B Lopez RF Hart LF Braun 1B Fielder 3B McGehee CF Cameron SS Hardy (Apparently J.J. has favorable stats vs. Brian Moehler) C Kendall P Suppan Those Houston Astros CF Bourn 2B Matsui 1B Berkman LF Lee RF Pence SS Tejada 3B C. Johnson C Towles P Moehler
  20. Well, you mean that you prefer Wrigley specifically for Brewers-Cubs games (a special case). That's less bad.
  21. The "game used" rack in the terrace level store has had largely the same contents all season. The jerseys of most "value" were probably purchased early on. I believe the prices for those jerseys were reduced from $100 to $75; I'll try to remember to recheck on Sunday.
  22. At my library, I once got a reference question from an interlibrary loan office (not in Wisconsin) asking for help with the citation of an Onion article: "Why Don't You Just Shut Up?" This was before they had a online presence, so the only suggestion I had for the caller was to contact The Onion directly. We got the call in the first place because we have a full collection of The Onion (on microfilm). The caller did not seem to realize The Onion is satirical; either that, or she was hoaxing me (and if so, was doing a good job).
  23. For last night's game, we dug out an old scorebook that had room to score one more game. We therefore filled the book last night. Today I was looking through the other games in the book, mostly from 1998, and darned if we didn't happen to score the Brant Brown game. I don't remember having the scorebook along, but I'm glad we did that one. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. So...in some ways, it might actually be preferable to catch a Brewers vs. Cubs game at Wrigley. Ouch.
  25. No, what you need is a big ol' boat of a car, like some 1970s Lincoln and fasten a stuffed parrot to the hood or antenna. Cruise the town with the windows down, talking like a pirate at stop signs when other cars roll up.Fair enough, but I'd still have to dub the big ol' boat of a car the Y'arrrrrrris.
