  1. Someone who can/is willing to ask more than the obvious "How did you feel when you (made the big play)?" type questions of players and staff. I suppose to an extent, maybe they're asking what they're told to ask - but since you're asking my ideal, there you go. I'd also like a degree of personal enthusiasm for the team the reporter is covering, or at least the capacity to develop said enthusiasm. Brewers fans got that with Trenni. I've made the comparison before, it has always felt like Ann Carroll (though not a sideline reporter) was just reading what was on the teleprompter. I felt like Trenni was personally rooting for the Brewers. Also, an ability to speak reasonably articulately. I don't mean that I'd turn on a reporter if s/he flubs a line once, but if that Youtube clip of Telly Hughes were somehow indicative of his on-camera skills, I'd be disappointed. Bob Brainerd might not have quite met this standard.
  2. Seriously, I hope we cross paths at the ballpark or something. We brewerfan women have to stick together. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Keeping things random...we just got a new popcorn popper the other night, and I love it. No scorched kernels!
  3. I'm there with you, razzzorsharp. I don't need running and gunning to enjoy a basketball game. I'm also among those sports dorks who appreciates a pitchers' duel more than a slugfest.
  4. Per Tom H in the JSOnline blog, the 2009 media guide arrived at camp in Arizona today, with Ryan Braun on the cover celebrating his most recent home run. You know, the one that made September 28, 2008 a day to remember forever. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Indeed, Sheila's popularity as a girl's name peaked in the U.S. during the 1960s, and has since dropped like a rock.
  6. Shhh, you're messing up the secret fundraiser for FTJ.
  7. Here's the DOT page on Packer license plates. It seems reasonable to assume that policy for Brewer license plates (if they're approved) would be similar. Some data from the page that answers questions already asked: There is a six character limit on Packer plates. They can be personalized for an extra $15 per year (on top of the $25 annual donation for Lambeau Field, and on top of the regular renewal fee for any license plate, which is currently $75.) The numbers for non-personalized Packer plates end in the letter G. (Perhaps non-personalized Brewer plates would end in B.) In terms of fees, there is also a $15 issuance fee, which sounds to me like a one-time deal. The DOT reserves the right to reject personalizations that they think "are offensive to good taste or decency, misleading or may conflict with the issuance of any other license plates." So if you try something like CUBSUK, you may be out of luck. Souvenir Packer plates are not available from WISDOT, so if you order them, you're expected to use them. Having said that, it appears you can decide later to change back to regular plates. To do so, you return a copy of your Certificate of Registration with a request for regular plates (and the regular registration fee, if you make the request less than three months before your plates are due to expire). I can easily imagine our requesting Brewers plates, using them for up to a year and switching to regular plates by the next year, then having a nice set of Brewers plates to display for posterity. And it's a shame that SeriesFinale isn't in Wisconsin, as SOLVDD would be an awesome Brewer plate. It would be a worthwhile selection just to have to explain on the order form what SOLVDD means. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. I agree with Peavey; Marney did just fine with WISC. I believe she has a little one now, so she might not opt for a traveling job. For FS 'Wisconsin' studio coverage, I would choose Marney over Ann Carroll 100 times out of 100, without even blinking.
  9. Of course, along that line, it would be nice if being able to demonstrate years/decades of prior support of the franchise could allow us a discount on the extra fees. Who here isn't already helping to retire the stadium debt, one way or another? samwise: Go with QVEDO. Enough people will get it.
  10. I think the earliest you can visit the ticket office or mail in Sept. 25 tickets is March 12. I was looking at the voucher thingy (not really a voucher, the thing they handed out at the original game) over the weekend, but it's at home right now. I do remember that mailed tickets had to be postmarked March 12 (or whatever date) or later. We're aiming for April 15, ourselves, in case anyone cares.
  11. If there's anyone or thing for whom/which I'd even consider paying extra every year, it would probably be the Brewers. I call BATTLE. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. A way for people to feel self-important by reporting even the most mundane up-to-the-minute updates about their life to people who probably don't give a rat's behind about what they're doing anyway.Plus it's a newer phenomenon than Facebook, which means it's automatically more hip....right?
  13. That part of your post alone makes me feel better about the transaction. Thanks.
  14. Not that quantity is more important than quality, but at this time of year the more potential pieces to the puzzle the Brewers have, the better I feel. I'll stop short of welcoming our new Gagneian overlord, but I'm just fine with the signing. (Like joepepsi, I'm sure Doug Melvin is heaving a sigh of relief now, having received the hawing stamp of approval.)
  15. D'oh, I fail at FTJ's life. At least I knew you had some family living in Oregon. (Tennessee? Like Derrick Turnbow? There has to be a connection...)
  16. Not to add to the collective angst, but if Telly and 'Rillo aren't in the FS "Wisconsin" studios (which are in Minnesota, right?)...who holds down the fort there? I really don't want to see Ann Carroll anymore, and I'm not even a fella. I'll agree with rm121978: after a reasonably successful Brewers season, you'd think FS Wisconsin could make a hire that at least doesn't sound unpromising right out of the gate. Unless FS Wisconsin itself had a bad year and can only afford to shuffle its remaining employees around.
  17. Well, the presence of the Hickory BBQ chips on the Lay's website is a sign that they're still being made for someone. On the where-to-buy part of their website, I picked Lay's Wavy Hickory BBQ Chips from the list of products, and found no locations within a 50 mile radius of Madison, Milwaukee or Green Bay (just entering random zip codes from those general areas). When I entered a Kenosha zip code, I found numerous locations in northeast Illinois: Winthrop Harbor, Zion, Waukegan, Great Lakes, Gurnee, Antioch, Grayslake. Many of the locations were Jewel stores. So a road trip across the border looks like it might pay off. Disclaimer: Frito Lay only says the stores listed have sold the product in question in the last 30 days; so if something happened to cut off the supply in the last month, you could still be out of luck. FTJ, I did the same search for Ruffles Authentic BBQ and none of the local-ish zip codes I entered yielded results. I tried one from Seattle and got five pages of results; maybe you can hammer out a deal with EdgarDiazRocks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif (edit: also in Portland! The next time the in-laws ask what you want for Christmas...) Peavey, they also had the Fiery Habanero Doritos on the "where to buy" list, but every zip code I entered brought no results. However, you can sign up on Amazon to be notified "when" it's available (64 single serving bags!). I couldn't tell you why this search fascinates me. I don't think I'd be a fan of any of those chip flavors myself. I guess it's the thrill of the hunt.
  18. I'm less enthusiastic about this than I am about Cory Provus. The glimpses I caught of Telly in the FS Wisconsin/North studios last season did not leave me impressed. But it's not Ann Carroll (though I suppose Telly's "move up" means we're more likely to see Ann Carroll in the FS studios). You can't say they just stuck a token female in there. Yes, I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for silver linings today. If we start to long for the days of Bob Brainerd again, I shall weep for us all.
  19. Even the Onion took note. (I apologize if this was posted elsewhere already.)
  20. I'm open, but wary. I'm definitely a Brewers Radio Network consumer, more so than TV, so how this goes matters more to me than to some of you. Wafer-thin silver lining: at least he cited Pat Hughes as an influence. Imagine if he had cited Santo instead. That's all I've got.
  21. Gah, based on the experiences described here so far, I'm glad I haven't attempted yet, not to mention glad that we weren't going to look for additional marquee game tickets anyway. If technical difficulties (not user error) bumped you out and voided your login, I'd like to think that the Brewers could give you another chance, upon describing the situation to your ticket rep.
  22. So, presumably you're rooting for Trot to make the Brewers' big leagues roster. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Anyway, I'll add to the chorus of welcomes. Like others here, I found the Red Sox 2004 title charming - not only because St. Louis lost in the process - but by 2007 they had become yet another tiresome too-high-profile franchise for my taste. (Visiting Boston in spring 2008 and touring Fenway, while interesting, did not warm me up to the Nation one bit.) Incidentally, Prince is signed through 2010.
  23. It's not practical for us to go this year, so although I'm happy for those of you who can go, I'm also a wee bit jealous. The first game is on my birthday and everything.
  24. I didn't get the impression that opening day tickets were something other than a sure thing for season ticket holders (for the order form that was due by February 6). In fact, the form says, "To guarantee opening day tickets, this form must be returned by February 6, 2009." Unless you're talking about the ticket lottery for opening day that is available to everyone; or unless we got a very special form (except I doubt we're considered quite that special by the Brewers).
  25. I hope the hawing party (of 2) can join in. It'll be March before I know whether I have to work that day or not. Thanks, UW spring break!
