I finally relented and paid for my own membership at REI this weekend, after years of mooching off the S.O.'s membership. I purposely left the email field blank on the application, yet I got an email from them tonight, at an address that does not readily appear in directories. I'm not pleased.

Perhaps the third Wes will be the charm for the Brewers. Even Wes Helms helped out eventually, if indirectly.

I've seen too much bad wearin' of the green today to be able to ignore it. If all you have is minty green, neon lime green or olive, let it be. If you really want to pay homage to the Irish, do it right - get some kelly or forest green. Yeah, but it seems more correct to say, "Counting Crows never got enough love." Since the name of the band in this case is also a plural noun phrase, it's tempting to want to preface it with "the," but there's no reason to do so. You wouldn't say, "The Air Supply never got enough love." (That I, and perhaps others, would be more likely to say, "Air Supply got way more love than was ever warranted" is another point entirely.) /more stickler than you

The Wisconsin State Journal, which continues its journey over the shark with its latest "enhancements" unveiled today. The paper is even narrower than it was before (the "new industry standard"), the comics will soon be illegible to the naked eye, and local bylines are increasingly rare (OK, so that last bit isn't new today)...but hey, they're accommodating readers by putting the obituaries in a bigger font. I am a longtime fan of newspapers, but if that is the best print product they can put out anymore, just go internet-only already.

If the radio broadcasts to date this spring are any indication, baseball on the radio is still being brought to us by Kohl's. I remember wondering last season if Bob would include the "baseball presented by Kohl's" bit in the final score of a playoff clinching win. Assuming you're talking about a DMV-issued driver's license or state ID (and assuming you're in Wisconsin), here is the Wisconsin DMV page on obtaining a replacement license or ID. Oddly, it doesn't appear you have to supply proof of address, but if you have a piece of reasonably official mail sent to you at your current address, it might not hurt to bring it to the DMV. If all you want is for the address to be updated, I believe there's a sticker you can get at the DMV service centers where you write in your current address. When we last moved, a few years ago, the S.O. got a sticker for his license. I was coming up on a renewal anyway, so I just got a new one. If you're over 21 now, replacing your license/ID would get rid of the "Under 21 until (your 21st birthday date)" - so that might be worth the replacement fee.

So, bball, does that mean there's hope in Stroville now?

Yeah, when I saw the 8-gallon minimum requirement and thought of the (about) 9 gallon capacity of the tank in our Prius, I realized that we're not exactly in BP's target audience. Oh well, our season tickets cover some of those dates.

Panthernick, if you have a season ticket holder guidebook (which is sent with ticket packages), look inside the back cover. The last page should be a voucher for a free media guide, redeemable only at the field level guest relations booth (so, after the season begins). TracyThom, we have two vouchers, although we have two different 20-packs (one pre-set, one fan's choice) which were mailed separately. Are your two packs the same type? I have no insight, just trying to think of how your purchases and ours might differ.

Take heart. We survived the lottery's "What can you get with $30 mil?" last season, and we'll survive this too.

As for whether UW is 'too big'...only you can decide that, but I'll mention that I spent my high school years convinced that I could never feel comfortable at a big school. Then after choosing a small (like 1100 enrollment - similar to my high school) college in the area, I felt closed in almost right away, and found to my surprise that UW-Madison was in fact a good match for me. I found that although it was (and is) a big school, there are many ways to scale it down. In my case, I'm sure it helped that I picked a low-enrollment major, but when I was in large lectures, I made a point of sitting toward the front of the room, which helped faculty/instructors recognize me, and I did not hesitate to ask for help (academic and otherwise) when I needed it. And this was all in the 1980s; in the intervening years, UW-Madison has put a ton of effort into making the campus less "big" (as in overwhelming) and the student experience more personal. You still have to make some effort, but being in college, I hope you are ready for that anyway. Another thing that I discovered was just as important to me as being able to scale down the campus when I needed help...was being able to blend in when I wanted to. At the college where I started, there was zero opportunity to do that, and I did not like the feeling of everyone knowing everyone. I felt like I had the best of both worlds at UW. Of course, MU isn't nearly as small. Also, just saying...it's not like there aren't "sports around" at UW-Madison. Your access to Badger sports will never be as inexpensive again, as they are while you're a student. Good luck deciding, and congratulations on scoring in what has become the UW-Madison undergraduate admissions lottery.
