  1. Same here. If they need a middle-infield boost, just call up Hiura to handle second, and work out a deal for Starlin Castro to handle short for us. Castro shouldn't cost more than Arcia and a lottery ticket. Plus he's under contract through 2019, with an option for 2020.
  2. My answers: 1. Yes. 2. I think so - to an extent. There is a surplus of OFs and SPs, and I'd be willing to move the following package: - One of Broxton/Phillips - Arcia - Either Wilkerson & Barnes OR Ortiz, with a preference for the former package. The Orioles get Arcia low, they get a MLB-ready OF, and they get either two immediate contributors to their staff, or a top 100 prospect. With that, I assume there is a 90% chance that Machado goes elsewhere - but there is a chance to get him for 3-4 years.
  3. Arcia's 2017 numbers (as a 22-year-old) indicate that is a very incorrect assumption. .277 with 15 HRs and a .731 OPS in 506 ABs. Not world-beating by any means, but when combined with slick defense, I'd take those numbers any day. He wasn't doing it with smoke and mirrors. The blanket statement of "he can't hit" is a proven fallacy. But in 2016, he had his OPS decline by 70 points at Colorado Springs from his 2015 numbers at Biloxi. His 2016 major-league numbers were bad. Much of 2017 is on the strength of June. Outside that month, he hit .265 with an OBP of .312 and a SLG of .391 - and OPS of .703. Maybe he can be a .750 OPS hitter with gold glove defense, but right now, most of what I see aside from that one month is a black hole in the lineup. Let Baltimore see if they can turn him around. Dubon, Moore, and Hager are all looking like they deserve looks.
  4. I'd agree. If Phillips/Broxton and Arcia are two of the pieces, I can see offering a Wilkerson/Barnes combo instead of Ortiz, Woodruff, or Burnes. I really have no problem plugging Woodruff and Barnes into the bullpen this year to get two more Hader-esque types.
  5. Broxton, Arcia, Wilkerson, and Barnes for Machado and the Orioles' international bonus slots? Frees up three 40-man spots, gives the O's plenty of of near MLB-ready players, AND the Crew gets some lottery tickets.
  6. I like Phillips, too. But at this point, Corey Ray has it put together, and the Crew also has Troy Stokes. I could live with Phillips, Arcia, and Ortiz for Machado and international bonus money.
  7. Why? If the Brewers need a power arm in the pen, Woodruff seems as good a choice as any. With his velocity, I think he'd be a right-handed Hader. At this point, my offer would be Broxton, Arcia, and Ortiz for Machado and international bonus money.
  8. Furthermore, the patience is a good thing. More pitches, more likely the pitcher makes a mistake he can truly turn on.
  9. Ones I'd re-sign: Hager Moore Ramirez Taylor Dillard Henderson Mejia Pena
  10. That was my immediate reaction as well. When you look at guys like Miller and Saladino, or a guy like Sogard last year, sometimes it's a total fluke but sometimes you have to wonder if they didn't just have a great off-season of training or something like that. In other words, just cross your fingers and hope there's a reason it's happening and therefore it could last a few months. I still prefer Villar as well. Positive value on the basepaths despite the gaffes, very good range at 2b, getting the hang of the position, hits from both sides... what's not to like compared to giving up assets for a probably sideways move at best? At worst, Villar is a 2B/SS/3B/CF/PR off the bench. That versatility is a huge plus, and he has speed. He also has his average up some, but not the pop from 2016. Castro at short intrigues me, as he has a +113 OPS+ right now. Arcia and Wilkerson should be enough to get him provided the Crew takes on the salary. The Marlins can hand over their 2019 international bonus slots, and a competitive balance pick to even it up.
  11. Then I hope the Crew isn't giving up more than Ortiz, Santana, Gatewood, and Wilkerson.
  12. Attanasio has said he'd open the checkbook. Castro for Arcia and Wilkerson would be a good move, upgrade SS through 2020, when Carmona/Turang will be knocking at the door.
  13. I have no problem dealing Arcia - and hope the Crew can get some extension for Machado. But it would need to be an Arcia/Ortiz package with one of Broxton, Taylor, or Santana. Starlin Castro would be a cheaper upgrade, and maybe would cost Arcia straight up - control through 2020, long enough to get Carmona close to the majors.
  14. Keep: Stokes Meideros Supak Diplan Quintin-Torres-Costa Drop: Asher Kratz Albers Wilkerson [Assume Broxton, Arcia, and Ortiz depart via trade]
  15. I'm starting to lean against Machado, unless one of two things happen: 1. An extension is agreed to. 2. The price is low (I'm thinking an Ortiz/Arcia/Broxton package at most). The Crew could be better off getting Starlin Castro and J.T. Realmuto from Miami if bigger names (Burnes, Woodruff, Erceg) are involved.
  16. Who's complaining about Perez now? Key bench asset. Lock him up - five years, $20 million.
  17. And of course, that will mean Perez has another three-hit day, including a trip to Ding-Dong City.
  18. This smells like smoke and mirrors to me ... I mean, I HOPE, it’s only smoke and mirrors! I want an impact bat !! Yeah, I kind of smell smoke as well. Woodruff as part of the package for Realmuto wouldn't bother me at all. I get a sense of some fatigue regarding Woodruff as a prospect on this board, but I would think he still has very high value as a young power pitcher. I'd hate to lose Woodruff. I see him as a right-handed Hader at this point.
  19. Actually, I'd go for Starlin Castro, who I liked in the offseason (around the time the Marlins wanted to deal Yelich, I wanted the Crew to also try to get Castro in the deal). Here's what I'm thinking: Brewers get: SS/2B Starlin Castro, C J.T. Realmuto Marlins get: OF Keon Broxton, SS Orlando Arcia, IF Jake Gatewood, RHP Aaron Wilkerson, RHP Luis Ortiz Castro takes SS, and gets a +113 OPS there. Miller at 2B. Villar/Perez on the bench. Realmuto becomes primary catcher.
  20. Cubs number two. I'm shocked we are still in first. Cubs seem to be good at everything. Hugely up in run differential. Maybe bullpen? That change soon I'm sure as we get to the trade deadline. The Cubs starting pitching has not been great. Quintana, chatwood, and Hendricks all have eras over 4.2. Montgomery has come back to earth. Darvish wasn't good when healthy. Only Lester is pitching well. Brewers starters Guerra Chacin Peralta and Anderson are all under 4 We go to war with those four and Suter, let the Haderade flow...
  21. I'd make that deal in an instant. It was worth doing. We had no way of knowing Sheets would tear that muscle. Sheets stays healthy, it's a real run.
  22. With the OBP skills, I expect he will stay up, and Sogard will be DFAed when Saladino is ready.
  23. I'll say it, I think Brevard County stunted him a bit. Now, though... I think he'll be my second-best OF, behind Stokes, who is putting together a very good year for the second year in a row.
