  1. They need to work Gatewood at short more. That could get you a bat-first option. Otherwise, hope that they can get someone who can move up the ladder quickly in the June draft.
  2. DFA Drake, then when Logan comes back, send Suter to AAA to keep him stretched out. What did surprise me was Suter's notching the LOWEST exit velocity of any major-league starter. He's been unlucky, not bad. As they say, “the slower they come in, the slower they go out.” Miley is an interesting "flip" candidate, IMO. Once Logan gets back, Suter goes to AAA to re-stretch (hate doing the AAA/MLB rotation/bullpen shuffle to him, but...) and Miley, if he does well, can be flipped for a part or two.
  3. Yep. Villar, Pina/Bandy, and Arcia just aren't the answers at 2B, C, and SS. Gonna have to make some trades or figure out when some people will be ready from AA.

  5. The cubs beat us for Quintana and Darvish. That's the difference. We sign Darvish or make the better deal for Quintana... we'd be in better shape. But offensive upgrades at C, 2B, and SS. Let someone else overpay for Arcia's web gems. Get me folks who can post .850 OPSs at those positions.
  6. I really like what I call OBP-plus guys. They have good OBP skills, but they also bring another tool to the mix (speed, high batting average, or power). Carroll, to me, profiled as a Jeff Cirillo type. Good OBP skills, hits doubles, and racks up a good batting average. I expect him to have to adjust to full-season ball, much as Ronnie Gideon did (has anyone noticed Gideon's mashing at Carolina?).
  7. I think that with Arcia/pitcher, it is the PERFECT place for Villar to run. He can run, and if he gets to third, with one or no outs, then you run a squeeze.
  8. I see Kirby as the next guy in the Hader role in a couple of seasons.
  9. The last two drafts, the Brewers got a pair of third basemen. In 2016, they got Lucas Erceg (https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=erceg-000luc), a highly regarded prospect in the 2nd round. In 2017, Dallas Carroll (https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=carrol000dal) was picked in the 9th round. Erceg seems to be a typical power hitter, bats left-handed, and is rebounding after a rough 2017 after he dominated in 2016. Carroll is somewhat struggling in the early part of 2018, but that "struggling" has him walking more than he strikes out. His OBP is .368 off a .262 batting average. In 2017, he also flashed superb OBP skills, albeit with a bit more power. Which of these 3Bs would you rather have? Erceg and his conventional power approach at the position, or Carroll's very advanced OBP skills?
  10. Is it just me, or has Dallas Carroll become a walk machine? I really like that guy's approach. He gets back in a groove with the bat... maybe Erceg becomes the second-best 3B prospect in the system.
  11. Paul Molitor did once, IIRC. The steal of home was a double steal with Yount going for second.
  12. Really, the one signing that never made sense to me was Chacin. At the time, they had Jungmann, Woodruff, and Guerra who could have handled that spot. Woodruff had done decently for the last part of 2017. They did have Burnes, Freddy Peralta, and Ortiz coming up as well.
  13. He shouldn't start against the Cubs. Full stop. Prior to this year, he was a Cub-killer in the midst of a pennant race. Much depends on how good Miley may or may not be. In any case, Suter could still be a bullpen option.
  14. Suter's obviously slumping. I'm not ready to discard him - he does have options, and maybe he can turn it around. But if he can't get it together against the Cubs, it may be time to move him to the pen.
  15. Nice to see Chacin doing well in a start. If he and Suter get on track... things become interesting in June.
  16. Years of control my also factor in. Suter's still cheap. So are Davies, Woodruff, and Guerra. Lot of baseball to be played through the end of June.
  17. Carroll is showing some really good OBP skills. He's hitting .277 after tonight's game - and has a .382 OBP. I like that. He'll probably stay in the top five on my Top 25 ballot at this rate.
  18. I'm really liking Dallas Carroll. This guy has a professional hitter toolset - and I like that a lot. He's drawing a ton of walks. In some ways, I'd like to see the Crew try him at second, see if he can handle that. Very intriguing.
  19. I'm disinclined to. Keep him at Wisconsin, and then move him to Carolina/Biloxi next year. I think it is very important to make sure he has a good year this year. Same with Demi if these numbers hold.
  20. Nice to see a couple of the written off guys in the system start hot: Lara, Ray, T. Taylor, Nottingham Ronnie Gideon (who was in my top 5 at one point, before a slump in Wisconsin) also making a comeback.
  21. I'm with Austin on this. I'll go a bit further. Even if the talent we have only emerges as a #3, for about six years, they are superb assets. Would you rather pay Garza/Suppan/Wolf/Lohse/Looper $12 million a year for 30 starts with a 4.50 ERA (or higher), or pay Brent Suter $500K for similar numbers?
  22. Ortega was on the Biloxi DL, per the transactions page.
  23. That would be good news if Neuhaus did. I have to admit, I'm liking Dallas Carroll. He's struggling at the plate, but still notched a .370 OBP prior to today's game.
