  1. I went to the Block Party in Whitefish Bay today. I've never went to one of these events before, and never really focused on getting autographs, but it was a fun time. From what I could tell, the turn out was huge compared to the description of the past events. I got there just before 9am and the Braun line was already around the block. Rumor was it started at 2:30am. I got in the Hart line, which was already very long. I talked to the first lady in the Hart line and she said she got there at 7:30. Eventually a counter went through and told us we were just past the 100 mark, but we should be okay. I went an walked around for awhile, as all the people around me in line were cool. Poor Riskie had only one person in his line about an hour before the event. It eventually got longer, but it was never to long. I don't think any of the lines would have been short enough to get two of anyone without working as a team, which I saw several people do, unless you were right in the front of one and jumped into a small one like Riskie's. I made it through Corey's line about 5 minutes before signings were to end and, in a moment of good thought, I decided to walk back by where the players had come in. I grabbed a spot by the SUV Braun arrived in. I shook his hand and got a couple of pics, but he wasn't signing once he got up. Counsell didn't leave in a vechile, he just walked off down the street with one of his boys and a friend with his kid. He stopped and gave someone his jersey he was wearing. I know he's a native of WFB, but I still thought it was pretty funny that he just walked down the street and everyone pretty much just left him to his business. Gagne was a no-show.
  2. This is a great thread, why isn't it in the main forum to get more attention? Pedro's giveaways are always in the main forum.
  3. What's up with ESPN's photo of Gagne? Is that a bad Photoshop job or is Gagne wearing a different style of hat in the photo? http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6342.jpg Silly Canuck.
  4. add that to the constant slamming and shattering of his bat...not a happy man Sorry for the double quote, but I was going to state both of these things as well. Fielder has seemed peeved for weeks and has been letting his immaturity show all over the field for awhile. So I can't say I'm completely surprised. I think if anything we've had ample evidence of late that Prince really isn't a leader, he doesn't have it together this year at least. But Braun and JJ were right in the mix and taking charge. Overall I don't think the scuffle is a huge deal, it happens, but I think it is more of a concern that Prince's temper is bleeding all over the field. I'm embarrassed every time he stands at the plate shattering a bat on the ground and screaming obsenities.
  5. We played the Cardinals on ESPN the night after Josh Hancock died last season. I remember being able to watch it while I was in Vegas. Suppan threw a shut out. (pared back quote --1992)

  7. All this talk about if the clubs encourages Cubs fans to come to the games reminded me of this bit. Wednesday night they were running this gag on the big screen, where they would show a Cubs fan cheering and pointing to their hats and whatever, but they overlaid a Brewers hat there. It was a pretty good gag really, though I'm pretty sure they prerecorded the people and laid the graphics over it because no one ever seemed to notice.
  8. That's a good point. I had read a week or two ago that today's game was the most sought after for Chicago fans too. Yuck.
  9. Oh man, now I have to tape the replay tonight to see this beaning attempt. Crap.
  10. C'mon, let's be serious. If its going to be anyone, it'll be TGJ. I don't think we should expect anyone come out and make a controversial statement. The implication there would be that a controversial statement would be helpful? I guess I don't see what Braun said after Boston to be controversial either, he just said what pretty much anyone could see anyway. I think the irony of bringing up the Red Soxs series here is that pretty much everyone thought the wheels were off at that point, and it became just the opposite until this past week. If we're about to take off like that again, awesome. ------------------------------------------ http://www.brewerfan.net/images/icons/lock.gifLocked: in-game thread material --1992 ------------------------------------------
  11. I was in 127 and saw some of that fight, which was in 126. From what I heard it started as two Brewer fans though? That was the word around me. Though my friend that was with me said the Cubs fan was in 127 for awhile heckling some kid with a Braun jersey? I couldn't tell, but it got pretty ugly. And of course all the drunk idiots were cheering it on. Last night was certainly miserable, but it really had more to do with the Brewers failing and the crowd being so heavy with Cubs fans. I sat next to an obnixious Cub fan on my right last night, but fortunately he was more concerned with drinking and really only watched about 3 innings of the game, and was off drinking the rest. To my left was another group of Cubs fans, and when I was walking into the aisle once, my knee hit her beer in the cup holder and it spilled everywhere. I apologized and when the beer guy came through I bought her a new beer. She said thanks, but the other lady with her was still staring me down and giving me evil eye for it. I agree its obnixous, but its made worse by the fact that we're getting our butt kicked and a lot of the Cubs fans aren't gracious winners, but if everyone keeps swearing off going to the games, its just going to get more overrun with Cubs fans. I don't get how so many people complain that there are to many Cubs fans at the games, but then so many people say they'll never go or won't ever go again.
  12. At least for another 36 hours... then we can all panic Hahahahha. Thanks for that.
  13. Braun has been okay in left, but certainly not a feared defender by any means.
  14. We spanked the Cubs on a Saturday Fox game last season. But, ya, that was last season.
  15. My vent has quickly turned to all the people I've seen griping on the board the past two days about season ticket holders selling their tickets to Cubs fans, the majority of whom don't seem to be going to the park this week themselves. If you're not going to buy a ticket and get to the park, quit complaining about what other people do with their tickets or complaining that Mark A. isn't doing anything about it. Full Disclosure: I had tickets to Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. I sold Tuesday's set to my friend who is a Cubs fan, for face value. I attended Monday and will be attending Wednesday and desperately hoping it goes nothing like the previous two games.
  16. I'm not sure it would fit your exact needs stated, but I use http://www.campaignmonitor.com and would recommend it. An account if free and it will keep and maintain the mailing list for you without charge. You only pay when/if you send emails out. I use it for numerous clients and it has always worked well.
  17. I saw that happen from where I sit, that was pretty stupid. Braun looked pretty annoyed too. That would make 2 straight Cubs games he's had something thrown at him by Cubs fans. I was somewhat worried about my section going into the game, because its normally pretty heavy on visiting fans for any game, let alone a Cubs game, but I have to say, there was only 1 obnixious Cub guy that I saw and he wasn't even that obnoxious. At one point a Brewer fan walked up the aisle with his middle finger in the air shouting obscenities to Cub fans in general. The Cubs fans next to me just said something quietly to each other about October and that was that. Other than that, it was all just cheering for your team around me, no beer throwing, no rude shouting, no super drunks. I'll take it. Of course, outside after the game is a lot of showboating and shouting, but at that point the drunks are mingling everywhere.
  18. I don't think 3 entire rows are a very good representation of the Brewers fanbase. The situation you describe is shameful, but the whole crowd shouldn't be lambasted for that. I've been to many Brewers/Cubs games, and I have to say that tonight was definetely one where the people around me were much more full of respect, on both sides of the line.
  19. I thought this was going to be about his temper tantrums at the plate and in the dug out lately. There hasn't seemed to be much talk about that, but he seems to have no composure lately. I don't see the numbers climbing back up until he can get focused again.
  20. So the way he earns that money is just by innings pitched, regardless of outcome? He shouldn't be yanked because he's high paid? There is no water in your argument. People always act like complaining about Yost is in leiu of any accountablity on the player themselves, which is ridiculous. Yes, Suppan was miserable today, but as was often noted with Turnbow, it is Yost's job to put the team and his players in the proper positions to succeed. I don't see how anyone can possibly excuse Ned for not taking Suppan out today. Amazing.
  21. I'm surprised again to find this thread still sitting on page 4 after a day like today. Ya, because facing a career .500+ Suppan hitter who had aleady nailed a shot over the wall, seemed like the good call in that situation. Even TH was ripping into Yost in the game thread on the blog. You know its bad when TH is going to town on Yost. I really hate these games where Yost almost seems to decide the game is out of our reach, so he'll just see how ugly it can get. Simply amazing.
  22. Monday: 127, Row 12 Wednesday: 127, Row 9
  23. The whole vibe of the game seemed to change on the Braun homerun. The Astros got some sloppy play and we started hitting. Its the Astros versus Braun tonight.
  24. This game is a nice buzz kill all over the place right now. Good to know the platoon also consists of getting McClung up in the pen to back Bush. Hopefully this platoon ends tonight.
