  1. How does Hermida have more upside?
  2. No, he's better than what Cameron was LAST year, and Cameron lost a step from 2008. It's reasonable to expect him to lose a bit more in 2010. Gomez' UZR/150 10.0. Cameron's UZR/150 10.3. So no.
  3. But .229/.287/.337 at a more offensive position is worth getting excited about!
  4. Again, he is arguably the best defensive CF in baseball. He plays defense at a rate which only a few can challange him at. Hes arguably the fastest player in baseball. He is 23 years old (going to be 24). He can develope into a better hitter. So saying "Carlos Gomez sucks" is not the correct answer He is not the best defensive CFer in baseball. He's slightly better than Cameron can be expected to be next year.
  5. And if he hit 50 home runs it would be a steal for the Brewers!
  6. And if Hardy had another year like this one, you couldn't even offer him arbitration because he'd be forced to take it. Nobody would have forfeited picks to sign him. Or he could rebound, lead the Brewers to the playoffs and get a draft pick. At worst he saves a full year of service time for Escobar during Escobar's prime.
  7. Gomez can't hit for average, he can't hit for power and isn't much of a basestealer. He's a plus defender but not an outstanding one like Morgan or Guitierez.
  8. Rather have kept Hardy up all of least year and gotten draft picks after 2010.
  9. Given that Hart and Hermida are basically interchangeable (Hart can play defense but aside from that) how does that happen?
  10. Cameron had a WAR of 4.3, Abreu 2.5.
  11. There was talk of them letting Matsui go but a World Series MVP can change things. They wanted to open up the DH slot to rest say ARod, Jeter, Posada and Damon on occasion. Cameron is still loads better than Cabrera though and they could move Cabrera.
  12. The PC version has a better interface and a floating camera while the console interface is serviceable but the camera is fixed. There is a large difference in the difficulty level which looks like may have gotten tweaked with a new patch. If you're familiar with Icewind Dale the battles are a lot like that on the PC where any encounter requires tactics to avoid dying. Last time I got killed by a random encounter with about 20 wolves.
  13. So I've played about 6-8 hours of DA:O which got me through the first town basically. Its really good. The PC version is superb while the console version aren't quite as good apparently. Also the PC version is very difficult. One mistake and you can get a game over screen. Its much easier on the consoles.
  14. A flyball pitcher who can't strike anyone out? Yeah that's gonna work
  15. His car was holding it for a friend
  16. Teahen had a whole 0.2 WAR last year and 0.1 the year before. He can not hit or really defend. And he's being paid $4m or so.
  17. But Washburn is an entirely different type of pitcher.
  18. Well except for that CC guy. Whatever happened to him?
  19. Of course they didn't, but they paid Looper $6.5 million based on him being worth about 1.8 wins right in lien with fangraphs's valuation of a free agent. Looper just collapsed.
  20. Its based on the entire league. After all the Brewers spent $20m this season on basically replacement level production.
  21. Wow. That will be one of the most expensive and least productive outfields ever if the Cubs do that.
  22. Central limit theorem. Since you're basically dealing with a type of binomial distribution (or a series or bernoulli experiments) it will end up asymptotically normal.
  23. "pretty close to typical Cameron numbers" Matthew's career line .258/.333/.408 Cameron's career line .250/.340/.448 Those aren't close. Add in Cameron has played above his career numbers the past two season while Matthews has been terrible and no they aren't close. Matthews isn't exactly some young guy either. Cameron is a very good player. Matthews is a 5th OFer at best. Suppan making 12 injury fill in starts is better value then taking on Matthews for 2 seasons.
  24. If Wang's released its likely due to him being injured so badly he isn't expected to pitch to any sort of degree.
  25. Yeah all thinking like that got us was a 1 year turnaround of the Mariners! Now Morgan has issues in that anytime you go over 20 runs above average on defense you're questionable. So if you want to knock off a few runs, feel free. The point is that the difference between Braun and Morgan is about 30-40 runs on defense.
