  1. It would be one thing to go the Sox for one year but to be suck with Ozzie Guillen for perhaps years? Would anyone want that?
  2. Unless there is a reason to believe that Hart has lost his power for some reason really nothing to do but wait until he gets hot
  3. It is a nice deal. Gerut is a legitimate candidate to start in CF next season depending on if he can turn it around
  4. Now that makes no sense unless Julio is being shown the door EDIT: well the Padres are getting Gwynn and cutting about $750k in salary this way
  5. Also triples are highly dependent on the situation. A player should never try to stretch for a triple with no outs or 2 outs.
  6. No this very well could mean Catalanotto never gets to Milwaukee
  7. It is excessive if the receiving team has to pick up his option
  8. And the difference between McClung, Dillard, Green. Wright, etc. is minimal at most
  9. An Iribarren for DeRosa trade makes sense assuming the Mets aren't hot after DeRosa (he fills in at 1B/OF and when DelGado comes back you cna shift soem PAs away from Castillo at 2B=makes alot of sense). Brewers get DeRosa, Indians get palyer who is ready or nearly so, most likely a reserve MI but has a chance to be a fill in starter or more at 2B cheaply for 6 years.
  10. Its a job that you can't get fired from one you get to a certain level. At worse you get a "Marv Albert" sabbatical. Pat Summerall showed up drunk for years and no one did a thing. And thats soemthign easy to observe, just plain old sucking? You've got to be Jerry Glanville obnoxious
  11. Last I saw it was still free with teh mag subscruption and you can that for like $10 different places. But it didn't come with my free subs to ESPN Desportes mag
  12. I think people are really overestimating Counsell vs RHP because of Counsell's hot start. Counsell vs RHP in 2007:.234/.337/.316 Counsell vs RHP in 2008: .229/.358/.308 Hall career vs RHP: .247/.300/.436
  13. The biggest issue with that is the Brewers need to find 3 pitchers for 2011 and finding 3 pitchers either through trade or free agency while replacing Hardy makes it a really tough to keep Fielder and Hart through their last year. Now a World Series win changes a lot of things and maybe someone pitching in AAA, but right now 2011 looks to be tough
  14. The fact that you're missing John Jaha and Matt Stairs is sad. Actually wasn't Jaha in some sort of semi-pro softball league?
  15. Most pitchers are going to be between .290 and .310. It takes special cases to be outside that range, knuckleballers, etc. It doesn't mean it can't happen, but there's little to believe that anyone on the Brewers aside from perhaps Bush has such special skill. Gallardo's career BABIP is .293, it was .310 in AAA in 2007. Looper and Suppan have been pitching forever and Looper's BABIP is .295 for his career and Suppan's is .300.
  16. This is how it's been explained to me in the past as well. Hence, the reason they don't include walks and HRs. However, is this saying that pitchers don't have control over someone hitting a single, double, or triple off of them? It's like the stat is saying that pitchers are responsible for walks and HR, but not that double that get's hit high off the OF wall. The pitcher has some control, but not really that much on what really are somewhat rare events. And part of this is selection bias, if a pitcher keeps giving up hard hit balls over 3 starts he's not going to see start #4. So when we are looking at major league talent the pitchers only have some control over slugging against. My main point however is that what has been called "good pitching" has been more good defense and good luck. You can't count on luck going forward and Weeks' injury harms the defense.
  17. The point with BABIP is that pitchers have little control over it and that in general it tends to revert to the league average of about .300. Neither Looper nor Suppan had high BABIP last year, they were what they were. What it tells us about this year is that we can expect those numbers to rise and we can expect the starters to give up more runs going forward than what they've done so far.
  18. To give an idea of why I'm much less sanguine about Gamel coming up and playing 3b then some are: Gallardo's FIP 3.80 BABIP .249 ERA 3.09 Bush's FIP 4.99 BABIP .249 ERA 3.74 Suppan's FIP 5.75 BABIP .270 ERA 4.63 Looper's FIP 5.48 BABIP .285 ERA 4.26 Parra's FIP 4.47 BABIP .319 ERA 4.57 Aside from perhaps Bush who had a similar BABIP last season meaning he maybe pitching in a way that just makes solid contact really hard and Parra you can expect those BABIP to rise. The defense has been very, very important to this team so far
  19. And Durhma for right now. In another few weeks Uggla, Johnson, Sanchez can become options
  20. Iribarren does not need to play.
  21. Why? I guess I don't see why everyone is so eager to move a questionable bat away from the only position it can fit.
  22. If he was healthy to begin the year I'd think he would have been in Milwaukee already. If Hart or Braun get injured, I would think Gillespie is the choice given Gamel needing to be at 3B due to Weeks.
  23. Which is a shame because his bat projects much better in RF
  24. Its 6/15 if I remember correctly, and if singed to a multiyear deal the player can opt for FA at the end of the season
