That is a Doug Melvin kind of guy. A free swinger with pop. Besides Prince Fielder who have we had in recent memory who was a high OBP type of guy? Seriously? The Brewers employed both Russel Branyan and George Kottarras.
Except they were also using steroids. This is always ignored. Tom House admitted that steroid use among pitchers was rampant in the 1970s in order to be able to recover quickly. Jose Cancesco just didn't accidentally sit on needle in Oakland in 1989, there is a history to reach that point. Braun's case showed how slap dashed the whole drug testing process was. And not just for baseball, but for all sports. (Not having dedicated couriers to save a few thousand dollars a year is insane when we are talking about millions of dollars of income and revenue.) MLB and Drug Warrior Inc were embarrassed and will do all they can to get Braun likely for the rest of his life.
Yep. As long as you don't count Escobar, Lucroy, Axford, Henderson, Segura, Aoki, Gamel, Fiers, Estrada, or Peralta the Brewers never give guys a shot without a major league track record.
People do realize that Genett had an OPS below what what Weeks had last year while Gennet was in AA? Gennett has one skill, to hit for average. But unless you somehow think a .483 BABIP in AAA with no power means something, Gennett is a 1 WAR player at best.
Yo has been rather poor so far this season. His Ks are way down and his fastball velocity is another mph slower over last year. These are some worrisome issues.
Weeks shouldn't hit 4th mostly because he'll never hit for a high BA. The fact that Braun won't hit 4th like he should is what is driving all this. That said swapping Weeks and Lucroy won't do anything. And can we realize that Gennett had a .293/.330/.385 line in AA last year?
Actually Melvin tends to take hard throwers and hope they get over their control issues. Hence Turnbow, Axford to some extent (injury had a lot to do with his issues), and Henderson. The guys that don't have control issues are really hard to find.
Since Axford has one of the longest consecutive save streaks he therefore must be clutch and only the unclutchness of other Brewers causes him to blow saves.
The difference between Gonzalez and Morris over a month is basically zero. Why Yuni over Morris? Because Yuni can play other positions and will not tie down a 40 man spot for the year to fill in for a month.
It plays around with science fiction, religious belief and myth-making to an amazing extent. I don't want to hijack this thread for a one that would become full of spoilers. We could move to another thread if you would like to discuss it more.
