  1. I don't think anyone here can say 100% whether waiting will affect any non-loan awards and if so how much. I just know that next year when my son will need to apply, it will be done as soon after Jan. 1 as possible to maximize chances. It will certainly be in my best interest to do so as I'd like to see him get at least his bachelor's with little or no debt and it may help to minimize our contribution to achieve that. I'll be able to do that because our income is all job earnings, interest and dividends so I'll be able to supply the financial info before actually filing taxes. It will be worth the effort. If your parents are self-employed, own a farm etc. it does make it more difficult to file the application before filing taxes. If you haven't done so already, I think it's worth following the fafsa.ed.gov link below to fully understand the process. Part of what I quoted below says If you have not filed your tax return yet, you can still submit your FAFSA but you must provide correct income and tax data once you have filed. There are phone numbers listed on the site if you have questions.
  2. Complete Your Tax Return! We recommend that you (and your parents if you are a dependent student) complete your tax return before filling out your FAFSA. This will make completing the FAFSA easier. If you have not filed your tax return yet, you can still submit your FAFSA but you must provide correct income and tax data once you have filed. fafsa.ed.gov We attended a fafsa session at this fall's Milwaukee college fair. The fafsa official recommended submitting the application as soon as possible, like 1 minute after midnight on the 1st. Grant money goes first and they look at the applications in the order they are received. If you/your parents only have wages, interest, dividends etc. you can pretty much figure out your return(s) from December paystubs/statements. Also, make sure you don't go to www.fafsa.com. It's a pay ripoff site.
  3. Did you fill out the FAFSA? Are you independent or not for FAFSA purposes? If not, did you have sibling(s) graduate/drop out. Your folk's expected contribution goes up per kid the fewer kids concurrently in college.
  4. Yeah, I've been looking also to replace my old 8mm analog camcorder. The long HDD record time/convenience was appealing when I first started looking but from what I've read miniDV has the best video quality for standard defintion. I'm pretty fussy about that so I'm going to go with the miniDV, probably something in the Canon ZR series which are very reasonable. The tape serves as the archive and from what I've read tapes will last a lot longer than DVDs will physically. The big question with all these formats, even DVD & VHS, is how long there will be devices to play them on. I have a capture device to capture my 8mm tapes that start in 1991 but haven't gotten around to transferring them to dvd. When I do, I'll probably also transfer them to miniDV. An HD 30GB HDD for $149 FTJ? Are you sure it's really HD or wasn't stolen merchandise? Normally that would be at least over $600 even at Walmart.
  5. This should help.
  6. Why do the players deserve a certain percentage of the profits? They may do the things that actually get people to watch, the dirty work if you will, but is that not true of almost every company in America? In every company its the people who show up and make the product that are the equivalent of the players, yet in no private corporation are the employees guaranteed a certain percentage of the profits. The players are the product, they don't make the product. Think of them as the raw materials of a product which does make up a given percentage of any product's cost. They are the top small fraction of 1% in the world in what they do. They aren't like assembly line workers or programmers or middle managers who can much more easily be replaced. They are as rare in talent as the CEOs of large corporations who are guaranteed certain things when they join a company.
  7. You need some perspective Adam. I'll be 60 in 3 weeks and time is just flying by.
  8. According to bork's link, WLUK will be moving to VHF(channel 11) after the transition. This will make it a little problematic to pick it up as is channel 10 in Milwaukee. The coverage areas for digital don't exactly match the coverage areas for analog in general but you should be able to work through it. If you do spring for an HD TV you will get the best HD there is, totally uncompressed. It's not the antenna that's digital or analog but the tuner. I live 23-25 miles from the Milwaukee transmitters and with an indoor antenna some stations come in great, others not so much but analog is worse. With digital you don't get snow with a poor signal, you either get the station or not. But with an iffy station, the signal can go away, then come back, get pixilated etc. Oshkosh is 35-40 miles from the Green Bay transmitters.
  9. Thanks to everyone for staying off the roads in Washington county this morning. My 25 mile, 30 minute commute only took 65 minutes. 30-40 mph all the way on the freeway. City streets 15-20. Lots of people wimping out today.
  10. Minnesota-Duluth won the division II championship yesterday. NCAA Division II. UW-Whitewater plays for the Division III championship next week. They've been a powerhouse for a number of years. This is their 4th straight championship game appearance. NCAA Division III.
  11. 1070 has to reduce it signal at sunset, which is why its comes in better during the day then it does at night. Almost all AM stations have to alter the direction of their signal at night too. WTSO at night.
  12. Winter rain always scares me what with the gutters being frozen, the possibility of ice damming and drainage patterns altered by snow. I've raked the roof which is about all I can do for prevention. I've never had a problem but it still scares me.
  13. Became a Brewers fan late one night when I heard on the radio news that a bankruptcy judge had awarded the Pilots to Bud. Went to the 1st 2 games. Had been a Braves fan before that and was devastated by their move. The feeling that the AL was a second class substitute for the NL mostly faded over time but my dreams came true in 1998.
  14. Normally up the chimney. How is your furnace vented and how old is the house? Here are some considerations. Edit: Here's a good thread.

Also Guam where America's day begins.
  16. You could inject 3-4 beers right into my blood stream and i wouldn't feel anything You wouldn't notice your own slurring. Impaired people aren't the best judges of how they're being affected.
  17. The article says they have new procedures and policies in place so, no, I don't think your last sentence is the case.
  18. St. Louis having a big market south and west may have brought in a little extra radio money but people didn't travel nearly as far to get to games in those days. Didn't do much for attendance. The Yankees especially could afford to have more scouts combing the countryside for guys like Mantle and then offer them bigger bonuses. The only time of a relatively level playing field was from the start of the amateur draft in 1965 to free agency and the Yanks won nothing during that time.
  19. A cash fund should not be losing. CD's or money markets may not grow much, but they should not lose a penny. The money market Reserve Primary Fund broke a buck, fell from the $1 target of money market funds to $.97. There's talk others could drop too due to the credit market constipation.
  20. As LH dominant as the Phillies are I'd go: Wed - Yo and plan to use Manny for 2 innings Thu - CC Sat - Bush Su - Manny, twice thru the lineup max Tu - CC I don't think Soup is suited to start against the Phils lineup.
  21. Weeknight games in April at County started at 6 with idea it would be a few degrees warmer through the game.
  22. I've been rooting for and against baseball teams for 53 seasons and the number of times who I rooted for actually influenced the outcome is exactly 0. Therefore I will continue to root against the Cubs with all my soul because it's fun and I'll let what happens happen, because I can't do a damn thing about it.
  23. they missed the first pitch and then Parra's hit (until he was rounding second) coming back from commercial late I don't think that was FSN because it didn't happen with Charter. Maybe your cable company with local commercials?
  24. Who says watching pitcher's hit and run the bases isn't entertaining?
  25. While the thread was moved while I was trying to post this and others have since covered it while I was trying to find where it went, I'll post it anyway. He's struck out 48 times in 150 plate appearances in Nashville this year. That suggests to me that he's still the same Russell Branyan that didn't do much last time he was here. So what, despite the 48 Ks he has a 1.151 OPS. Bill Ks a lot also with a low OPS against RHs and while Counsell puts the ball in play more, it doesn't result in much. Branyan had an OPS+ of 115 and 125 the two years he was here. I'll take that over the other two choices against RHs. Don't know why people are mentioning Hernan. A .672 OPS at Nashville isn't eye catching.
