  1. I don't know about your kids or anything but going to a museum on the weekend was one of the last things I wanted to do when I was a kid. It's a children's museum. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the one in Appleton up to about age 8. Dress up like a fireman and 'drive' a fire truck, operate a crane etc. Lot's of hands on, interactive stuff to do.
  2. "Small Ball" is an offensive strategy Even if one believes small ball has any value, it still would only seem to make sense if a team feels it can prevent the other team from scoring and hang on to slim leads.
  3. Where do we draw the line. What if I start a thread that 80% of umpires are in the back pockets of the mafia and I state this based on something a friend said to me that had ties to organized crime, or that Miller Park will fall apart in 5 to 10 years because I know some Iron Workers that worked on the stadium and gave me some information about short cuts that were taken. Go ahead and start one like that. There have been outlandish threads making claims supposedly based on inside knowledge before but it becomes clear pretty quickly when someone's talking out their rear. Madtown's info on the other hand seems quite reasonable and he's not making any outlandish claims. So it seems everyone other than you is taking the info with a wait and see attitude and not getting bent out of shape over it.
  4. 162 games is only non-arbitrary when they start at the beginning of a season and end at the end of a season. That's how post season is determined. Overlapping seasons, 162 games is arbitrary.
  5. Both ends were bad but with a stretch from Prince at worst it's a short hop dig.
  6. I don't recall Prince saying anything when he had less than a year's service time either. They're at different rungs on the ladder so don't give Ryan too much credit yet.
  7. C'mon Ned, Torrez or Mota to face Encarnacion, then Shouse.
  8. Is there any minimum stay when sent down? If not, I think Joe's on the plane to Milwaukee after the game and Stetter heads to Nashville.
  9. He took over his dad's school. Don't have to be good to do that.
  10. Hart and Fielder still gotta be swinging though because all 4 of the pitches looked like strikes. No way those low outside pitches to RH hitters 3 inches off the plate are strikes. And no hitter does anything with them even if they swing.
  11. At some point, you'd think that it would have to slide towards regular inflation, no? Baseball salary inflation is different and separate from general price inflation. Salary inflation in baseball will only slow down when fans stop paying higher ticket prices, stop watching games on TV, stop buying merchandise etc. Wouldn't our parents laugh at us for thinking that's insanely high, wouldn't they? I mean, it was over 13% in 1980! Parents? I took out a 2 year CD in 1979 that earned 12% and barely covered inflation in 1979 and lost to it in 1980.
  12. Why look only at the offensive numbers, pitching numbers have something to do with it too. Which one of the Mets wins was lucky and why? All teams get to play crappy teams, not just the Brewers. The Cards have played Washington and SF.
  13. I think with some of the driving times given, some are mistaking Florida for Texas. Auburndale would seem the most centrally located with 10 teams within an hour or so. I would think but don't know that they schedule more games between teams clustered together. Wouldn't think there would be as many Ft. Lauderdale(Orioles) - Dunedin(Blue Jays) games which is the longest at about 4 hours. I would think this would piss off the players who've settled in AZ year round so they can spend spring training at home with their families as well as the off season. But they're well enough off that those that want to could relocate.
  14. As stated the umpire crews were separate by league through 1999(not a long time ago to me) so as mentioned Bruce wouldn't have worked Brewer games until they switched leagues. And I do remember Bruce working Brewer series all along since then. I think umps are expected to be professionals and not influenced by home town team etc.
  15. For 25 years I used to get terrible sinus infections in the sinuses by my cheeks with absolutely every cold. Intense pain until the antibiotics would start taking effect in 2 or 3 days. Then about 3 years apart 2 of my upper teeth cracked and had to be pulled. The 3 root jobs and they were compressing the sinuses so they couldn't drain. I haven't had a serious sinus infection since, but... I still get minor twinges of pain in the sinuses sometimes from a cold or discomfort from cold congestion. Introducing the Neti Pot if you haven't heard of it before. Some may find the concept a little disgusting but I swear by it. A doctor suggested it to my wife at one point and it really does clear out congestion from a cold or allergies. I don't use it every day, just when I'm having a problem. I sure wish I knew about it when I was having the major problems.
  16. The hop creates unnecessary glove movement right before the catch. It doesn't make a lot of sense as a way to improve catching the ball. Whether it's intentional hot-dogging or not it sure looks like hot-dogging.
  17. What have these guys done so far to say they've turned it around? Dana's had 2, repeat 2, very good starts this season. Thatcher has 27 major league innings and Dennis 21.
  18. Seemed clear to me that not finding another #1 arm was in regard to replacing Ben next year.
  19. My son had a Bill sighting a little over a year ago. He was a judge in his forensics category at a meet. Bill had a bad reaction to Dave Barry. Maybe he still hasn't recovered. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif While he was involved in debate/forensics at the time and likely still is, it's not with his HS alma mater.
  20. Yeah, but there's no indication in the lyrics that Nikita is Russian. The song appears to be about a guard at the Berlin wall in which case Nikita could have been Slavic in which case it's a female name.
  21. Nikita is like Robin, either a male or female name. Not that Homer isn't right but the interest in the video is definitely female.
  22. I think the Cubs game was an aberration for Bush. He usually has good control - I think for his career he averages like two walks per nine innings. I didn't see the Cubs game, don't know which pitches, if not all, he was missing with but supposedly he added two during the spring. Being able to throw new pitches and being able to control them are two different things. So we'll see.
  23. The camera work is fine. Each cameraman has his assignment and stays on it. It's the director switching between camera shots at the wrong time that has sucked big time.
  24. Manny, Yo and Carlos seemed more ready last year than Dana did two years ago or last year with AZ. Dana has had one good game this year, I don't think the final judgement is in yet.
  25. ESPN has Santana going friday against Manny. The Mets may be skipping their 5th starter with Pedro hurt.
